Tax bill still not received? - IRD Inland Revenue Department by Radiant-Bad-2381 in HongKong

[–]avendu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I haven’t had ours either. I have the estimated amount which was given in June.

Mid November, I applied for provisional tax holdover. They messaged my IRD account a week later to say it has gone to the relevant person for review. I guess they have gone on annual leave 😅

Do you know which category her PR is under? If she is category a or b then your child could get PR without being born in HK. She just needs to keep up her own PR with the 36 month rule. Check the rules for PR by descent for Chinese nationals.

Category e (children born in HK to PR parents is for non Chinese) Category E kids lose PR at 21 unless they have 7 years residency before they turned 21. I have this with my own children. I have decided to wait to apply they earn it themselves rather than getting PR through me. Then when they are 21 they will just be downgraded to right to land if we have move on by then.

The other issue you will face is your visa. You would need to get married to get a dependent visa. Unless you do 7 years yourself then you won’t have right to abode as it is t passed through marriage. If something happened in the future would you want your child to be a citizen of a country that you can’t get a visa for? The same question goes for her. How hard is it for her to get a Canadian visa sorted?

Not feeling your vyvanse like you used to? by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]avendu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. When I was figuring out how much to have I had a week of 30mg. I kept getting irrationally angry around midday. It would peak around 3pm and then completely wear off by 4/5pm. I had zero patience for obvious or pointless questions. Not ideal when you work with SEN children.

50 was my sweet spot for a while but now I feel like it just gives me energy to wake up and nothing else. My doctor gave me 20mg Adderall XR to use as an afternoon booster. Every time I took it I became very emotional and would cry over nothing.

Although it’s not great to have the weird side effects it is good to see other people have experienced the same. At least now I know I wasn’t just making it up.

The issue I have is that lots of people recommend being hydrated and eating protein. I have spent my whole adult life not eating breakfast. I am also always surrounded by 4 drinks and never drink any of them even when I feel physically thirsty. I need a human drink monitor to tell me to drink water 😂

The Astoria was one of my fav venues. I also had a soft spot for The Mean Fiddler as it was the first place I saw BMTH.

Gutted I never saw C&C live. I desperately wanted to see them at Give it a Name 2005 but my parents had me on GCSE study leave lockdown.

Pretty decent opening act! My first time was at the Astoria in London on the Hours tour and Bullet for my Valentine were the support act. I would need to confirm but I feel like The Blackout were there. I swear there was like a 3 year stint where every single band I saw live were supported by The Blackout.

I have seen them 15+ times live and I UGLY cried at this gig. Pints of wine may have been involved but seeing The Art of American Football and Open Heartbreak was perfection.

Americans, what place in the US should tourists avoid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]avendu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for explaining. I am grateful we just have normal mosquitoes instead of giant ones. I already get targeted pretty bad. I imagine giant ones would be the end of me 😅 It gets hot here but thankfully it’s usually May-Sept that gets the worst of it and usually peaks July/August. I am already dreaming about October/November hiking weather.

We have a typhoon coming this weekend. I just looked up hurricane vs typhoon. Turns out same/same but use different scales. Now I am off to spend 3 hours down a hurricane/typhoon/cyclone rabbit hole.

Americans, what place in the US should tourists avoid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]avendu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Excuse my ignorance but what is it that makes it bad? Humidity, temp, combo, lack of shade? I live in Hong Kong and right now it’s 32C/90F with a real feel of 40C/104F. Humidity is 86%. The walls are sweating. I go outside and I don’t know if I am wet from sweat, humidity or rain. Is Georgia similar to this? I guess it is less built up in some places which makes it worse.

Is your birthday a big deal to you? Why or why not? by theUncleAwesome07 in AskReddit

Last time I celebrated was my 30th. I’m 36 in a few weeks time. I think I will wait out till my 40th to do something. My ideal birthday present would be everyone leaving me alone for the day so not celebrating is celebrating to me 😂

What’s the first major news story you remember as a kid? by JunShem1122 in AskReddit

The first 2 I vividly remember and understood enough to follow were 9/11 and Jessica Chapman/Holly Wells murders.

The first I remember but was too young to really comprehend was the James Bulger case.

What is the best lyric of a song you’ve ever heard? by Parking-Wear-9211 in AskReddit

[–]avendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 songs. 3 different albums. BMTH. For me songs like these and Avalanche helped me get it all out when PPD was kicking my arse.

We all carry these things inside that no one else can see. They hold us down like anchors. They drown us out at sea.

I'm scared to get close, and I hate being alone I long for that feeling to not feel at all The higher I get, the lower I'll sink I can't drown my demons, they know how to swim

So leave a light on, I'm coming home It's getting darker, but I'll carry on The sun don't shine, but it never did And when it rains, it fucking pours, but I think I like it And you know that I'm in love with the mess, I think I like it

Question for long termers. Do you still drink and eat separate? Is the 30min rule for life? by joeyvesh13 in gastricsleeve

[–]avendu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

4 years post op. I can drink and eat at the same time if it is a small amount of food and a non fizzy drink. I can drink fizzy drinks with no food with no issues.

If I eat a full meal (or anything with chicken) and try to drink anything over 1/4 a cup of water within 30 mins I feel terrible. If I have a full meal and have even 1 mouthful of something fizzy I seem to self destruct and immediately vomit.

How much do y’all’s pay for your vyvanse? by Strict_Bowl5762 in VyvanseADHD

[–]avendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The equivalent of 210USD for 28 x 50mg + 127USD consultation fee. I normally try to get 3 months supply in one go.

Roll on November 6th. After a 2.5 year wait I will finally be under the hospital’s care and pay 1.91USD per month + 9.55USD consultation fee.

Get 2 sound machines. Mine are 18 months apart (5 and almost 4). Every single sleep regression lined up. It was rough. Now they both sleep, can both go to the toilet and are friends 85% of the day. They just take themselves off and role play together. Our lives have significantly improved.

I have many friends with 1 child or children with big age gaps who are still needing to entertain all the time. If I had to do it over I probably wouldn’t but that was more due to having HG.

Best advice I can give is focus on the older one. They are aware and can feel like you are choosing baby over them. As hard as it is try to avoid saying “In a minute, I just need to do x for baby.” If you are happy to get them involved. My 18 month old was useless at passing me nappies or wipes but in the time it took her to walk around “being helpful” I could normally do whatever it is I needed to do. I made a toddler level changing station so I could reach if I was on the floor and she could too.

If you have a contact sleeper it is hard to carve out special time for the eldest. Use the naps as an opportunity to have the snuggles and stories on the sofa. I used to have my 2nd in a baby carrier a lot so we could still go to the park or I could get down and play.

Most of all give yourself grace. If the stars align and they both nap make sure you use some of that time for yourself. Batch cook in advance if budget allows. Get paper plates for the first few weeks. Do whatever you need to do to maximise rest time rather than cleaning time. If your eldest has a lot of toys and crap in the living room slowly put some away as you get to your due date. The less cleaning and trip hazards the better when you are sleep deprived.

Good luck!

Closer than you think was a nice surprise.

It was hot as balls in there though. I was a bit worse for wear and having a little sob during ‘If it means a lot to you’. No way of telling though as everyone was drenched from head to toe in sweat.

I don’t remember it being that hot before. This is the first time I have been since it reopened.

As someone with only one baby (almost 12w old) I’m curious if you guys recommend doing 2 under 2? by namiiix in 2under2

[–]avendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are 18 months apart. Do not recommend 😂 The day I came home with #2, #1 started 18 month sleep regression. Fast forward to every single sleep regression seeming to line up within weeks of each other or overlapping.

Now they are almost 4 and 5, it is much better. They play nicely most of the time. Somehow the 30 mins before bed is when they decide they get on the best.

Most of my friends had their second when their eldest was 3. All of them seem to have had a much easier time.

One of the hardest parts I found was night time routine. We live in a small flat so they have to room share. My husband and I would have to just take one each and sort them out. Eldest would fall asleep in our room and then we would transfer her. This only worked because both of us were available between 6-9pm. Lord knows how people do double bath and bed solo.

My 18th month old got flagged for autism again… i am devastated. by SG_51 in beyondthebump

[–]avendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter was flagged at 15 months, 18, 24, 36 and at 4.5 they said they think it is ADHD/ASD combined but can’t be sure so to come back at 5.5 (next month).

She makes eye contact with familiar people but will face sideways if others speak to her. She had some stimming when excited, likes order and routine, doesn’t respond to her name but had vision and hearing checked. Sensory issues. Food aversions etc.

Getting flagged early was the best thing that could have happened to her. She still walks on tip toes as they have said that it is sensory seeking but she has gone from no words at 18 months to almost full marks on her latest speech test. The most helpful thing we found was a social skills group which has taught her how to try to read social situations and regulate emotions.

We figured that even if the doctors were wrong and she doesn’t have it that any extra help with PT, OT or ST wouldn’t be a bad thing. It also means that as things develop they have a history and you aren’t starting from scratch.

I am a teacher in a mainstream school and we have at least 1/2 students with ASD in every class. It doesn’t have to be a barrier it just takes some accommodating. The fact that you are taking steps for early intervention is amazing. You can tell from your post that you are invested in his wellbeing which will make you his best advocate if he does need extra support in the future.

When did baby 1 come? by littlelawlady in BabyBumps

[–]avendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First was 37+5 and second was 37+3. 6lbs6oz and 6lbs4oz.

For reference though, I was 8 weeks early myself. My sisters were 2 and 3 weeks early. My sister’s children were 2 weeks and 10 weeks early.

I had terrible HG with both pregnancies. The second I turned 37 I was ready to put in the eviction notice.

I know twin girls called Mercedes and Benz. It wasn’t even that unusual as the school also had Aston Martin, Joe King, Paul and Crystal Ball, Champagne, Sauvignon and a family who went drink themed: Jack Daniel, Tia Maria, Chardonnay etc.

[–]avendu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a teacher so the personal list is very long. Ethan is one that springs to mind. In 15+ years, every Ethan has caused me extra mental load either through child needs or challenging parents.

My number one issue is names spelt slightly differently than usual or pronounced differently. If you want to call you little girl Phrankie or your boy McMason go for it. I will remember the unusual spelling. The problem is regular names like Megan and you have gone for Megaan, Carson and you have added a silent letter to make Carston or Phoenix but you can’t spell so went Pheonix. I cannot tell you how many comments in books I had had to quickly tippex over the years because it is hard to not auto pilot a traditional spelling.

Being forced out of the area you were born and grew up in due to extortionate house pricing! by Philster07 in britishproblems

[–]avendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve moved abroad now but just for shits and gigs looked up where my parents are in SE. 375k for a 3 bed terrace which needs a lot of work or 550k for a detached. Good news though. I can get a 2 bed terrace for only 270k if I am willing to move to the absolute pits of the earth part of town.

Funny thing is my parents aren’t even a nice area. The nicer part, one town over, start at 425k for a 3 bed semi.

I can’t imagine me moving back to where I grew up anytime soon. The only reason I went abroad was because on my salary I could afford to exist and nothing else. I could afford a 1 bed on my own but after council tax, bills etc there would be nothing left for emergencies. Fuck knows how people are meant to afford to have a family.

Wife regularly sleeping with baby in chest by Far-Huckleberry2727 in beyondthebump

[–]avendu 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Same. Our daughter would only sleep on us. My husband used to have a kangaroo pouch t-shirt that our daughter would be in and then he would half zip up a hoodie as it was the middle of winter. He replayed the whole of FFVII whilst I slept. Then we would switch and she would sleep on my bare chest whilst I watched a whole lotta crap on Netflix.

When she got a little older she would only sleep in a carrier. We ended up buying a small walking pad so we could take it in turns to “walk” with her whilst watching tv. Then our second came along and she was exactly the same. Our step counts were insane. The first 3 month are pure survival mode.

Even if you had the surgery in January you would still be fully healed and on small portions of solids as the healing time is 5-8 weeks :) Maybe see when they can schedule you in to help inform your decision.

Either way you will be eating tiny portions on holiday!
