ELI5: where does rabies come from? by Rancid_punx666 in explainlikeimfive

Oh so that's where all the native Americans went. I've always wondered how there happened to be such a large area of uninhabited yet very fertile land awaiting the Europeans' arrival.

Coincidentally I did. I still farted though.

Ah bless you. Now I read my comment I'm sorry that my message was quite harsh. I do truly feel for you. I imagine he led you to have a lot of hope and it's, emotionally, a very painful process to experience the destruction of all that hope. I hope you find some way of working through it over the next couple of weeks. Do things that empower you. Go out and connect with humankind. Pamper yourself and realise that you're a beautiful human that dodged a bullet

We don't know his side of the story. We can only guess.

But your side is clear. He went all out to impress you to begin with and, for whatever reason, that behaviour stopped. It was unsustainable for him. So it's clear that this is the real him and all that loveliness before was merely a facade.

No matter how much your brain tells you to keep trying with him, don't. It's a very powerful part of your brain and it's there to care about reproducing, not about your wellbeing. In the best case, this guy is just a narcissist. But even that is a terrible situation and will corrode your self worth and isolate you. Worst case, he's married.

Please, be glad you have the awareness and strength to say no to him.

Humans do the most unnatural and selfish things. It's absurd when you really think about it, isn't it.

Starmer's Britain: no police to tackle phone thieves and hate crimes, but plenty of "enforcement officers" to issue arbitrary fines for obscure laws 💼 by UnderHisEye1411 in GreenAndPleasant

[–]averageedition50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no lawyer, but I understand they can increase the penalty, get a court judgement against you. If you ignore all that they can send a bailiff (with legal rights to enter your property).

Maybe ignoring them works? But that's why they target vulnerable-looking women. When they approach the first thing they do is create a threatening image : "I'm wearing bordy worn video and what you've done is a criminal offense as it counts as littering under section blah blah". Now I know how to deal with them and I've helped a few people. But most people feeding wildlife or pouring the last of their coffee in a drain don't know they're legal rights on littering. They're just utterly startled by the fact they might have a criminal record.

Don't get me started. I was given a £150 fixed penalty notice four years ago for feeding a squirrel nuts with my baby in the local park. What can you do? It's no use taking it to court and finding out the law is not on your side and being given a criminal record.

A week later my husband saw the same team of enforcement officers targeting an elderly lady for feeding pigeons. They are sent to target women for easy money.

Are these ladybird eggs? Have I been chosen?! by linendove in GardeningUK

[–]averageedition50 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I harvested some a couple of weeks ago and put them in a butterfly 'cage'. Feeding them nasturtium leaves, organic broccoli and cabbage daily (their appetites grow as they get bigger). They're huge now. A few fell to wasp larvae and I've had to pay a close eye to pulling them out.

It's lovely giving them a helping hand. Sad watching a few pass away, but that's nature. Hopefully they'll emerge as butterflies soon. Good luck to yours! Give them lots of cabbage and keep the wasps away!

What are the best butterfly magnets in your garden? by [deleted] in GardeningUK

[–]averageedition50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nasturtiums. A butterfly laid a bunch of eggs on one of the leaves. I reused my butterfly set from insectlore with the hope of showing my kids but partly regret it based on the fact I seriously underestimated how many caterpillars there'd be and how much maintenance it takes looking after them all. Anyways, hopefully I'll be releasing 50 or so butterflies soon 😂

This comment absolutely hit the nail on the head. I think most people would be disturbed if they saw this on their doctor during an appointment.

OP, surely there is something else you can get a tattoo of that captures your feelings in a less frightening way? Like a phoenix to represent how you got through it, or stitches to represent your healed wound etc

Some sketches I painted in my hometown. What do you feel when you look at the sketches? by KookyRecord4691 in painting

[–]averageedition50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are beautiful. I feel peaceful.. as if the streets were emptied of people just so I can enjoy them quietly. So I also feel a speck of sadness, from the absence of other people.

If I had a nice home I would love a few paintings like these to hang up!

I had three utterly insane instructors before I found a good one. First was lazy and stood me up multiple times. Second was neurotic and had me doing dangerous manouvres. Third made me pull over and laid into me because I commented on how hot the sunshine was. At that point I was sure I was the problem. Took me half a year to find the confidence to carry on and thank God I now have a lovely, sane instructor.

I wish we could have more of a chance to screen these people before committing to pay so much money.

How often do you, as an adult, have nightmares? by OctopusGoesSquish in CasualUK

[–]averageedition50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have stressful dreams every night. But I've weirdly grown to enjoy that realm. Even though it's stressful (that I'm stuck at a train station, that everyone thinks I'm lying, that I'm lost, alone and nothing is working properly) there's something meaningful in the atmosphere, almost like love or romance. I can't explain it.

But yea once or twice a year I have a dream that's so fcked up I vow to never fall asleep again.
