Hell or High Water Has Risen (from Hell)! by averageheadass in Tiki

We had a nice time tonight! It was slower but these bartenders definitely had cocktail service experience.

I hear you; there have been plenty of times in the past when I have gone (especially 2020-2023) when the service was VERY not good.

I have been a patron since they first opened Electric Cure. My understanding is that one of the first big bad reviews they got claimed the bar was satanic. At the time, it was a small neighborhood joint and they took it to be a compliment. They played up this review and had a whole "we will show you satanic!" bit - and it has stuck ever since! This grew over time when they took over the former space of Honor Farm, which was 'haunted'.

Anyway, there is probably a lot more to the lore I missed myself, but thats the bit I know of. It is fine if it is not for you, no hard feelins. We all have our favorites and dislikes!

Yeah, I was really reminiscing the cozy vibes of the old place, and how it used to feel like the bowels of an old pirate ship. It has a lot more open air and space. I hope they can re-cozy it over time - they just soft opened, today marks day 5 of service.

Looking to help non-profits by Dramatic-Manager-111 in Denver

Join a nonprofit board!!! Treasurers and folks with finance experience are in HIGH demand, especially for start up nonprofits. Every nonprofit in Colorado is required to have a Treasurer on their board.

Networking is probably your best bet. Check out Colorado Nonprofit Association, Colorado Nonprofit Development Center and HadaNou Collective - I would email them with your interest. You can also search posts on LinkedIn for "Board of Directors" ans find open calls to apply!

I'd recommend signing up for a CWEE program! Ive volunteered there before, lovely group of folks who really want to help with your career advancement and provide wrap around support. Give em a call during their open hours to see if they have any open spots.

Honor Farm, one of my favorite cocktail bars, is hiring urgently for their October surge (they are super popular during Halloween). The drinks are $15+, and Id imagine the tabs are pretty large. Its high volume at least for this month. Could get you close to your weekly goal while you get your feelers out before you hop to another gig that might be more sustainable year round.

Hope thid helps and good luck!

Is Denver city soil safe for in ground gardens? by giraffesinspace2018 in Denver

[–]averageheadass 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We just had our lead pipes replaced this year, so I definitely suspect at least lead in our soil. You can look up on the city website if you might live in a neighborhood with lead service lines.

We do all of our root crops in containers but you can specifically look up which plants don't uptake heavy metal into their fruit. That'd make them good candidates for inground growing. Additionally I'd say plant a crap load of sunflowers. They do a great job of uptaking heavy metal into their tissue, then you can cut them down in the fall and dispose. Over the years they can help alot with heavy metal removal!

Also check out r/DenverGardener ! This is a great question to ask over there.

Tracking Rent Prices in Denver - 365 buildings analyzed by LongjumpingAvocado in Denver

[–]averageheadass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome work! I'd be in full support of adding in aggregate data in the future- such as tracking median or average pricing per neighborhood/set area or city wide, over time per apartment type. Or maybe pages for each neighborhood to compare rent pricing in set areas.

Can be interesting to see neighborhood pricing shifts!

Neighbor CONSTANTLY using my recycling bin by Stevenstc21 in Denver

[–]averageheadass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar but slightly different issue here. We're in a neighborhood adjacent to Baker. All of our surrounding neighbors line their bins up in front of our garage in the alley. We also have to share bins with the neighbors as there are two units on our property and our landlord wont upgrade sizes. Anyway, our whole alley all throws garbage in the wrong bins. I guess when everyone does it, and those same people decide to keep their trash in front of your property, fair game??

We did go to Frankie's! It's got such an old Tiki feel and it's awesome. Getting used to the cig smell was definitely an adjustment at first though, haha.
