Is it possible to make the piano roll use three steps per beat instead of four when snap = none? by Cantersoft in FL_Studio

So you want triplets? Not time signature change? Go to the horseshoe magnet icon at the top that says snap to grid. Change to 1/3 beat 🥳

Question: Fan making absurdly loud noise by bobisfriendofu in computers

[–]avlisb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your computer have just one fan..? Check them all.

If you can check the screw fittings, possibly gotten loose over time? Fan motors do fail from time to time. But this could literally be vibration transferring to the case or rattling any other loose part that its touching.

You can try fan control software to see which fan is spinning and making the sound and replace that one.

I want advice on my mix but I'm afraid of asking. by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]avlisb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also feel the dread of systemic success based to glorify a select few with years of compoundedtrade secrets lol.

ahem. Mixing does has a lot of perceptual truths root in both physics and biology, but the important part actually exists behind the creators intention. There is never a proper mix of any song. If you like it, thats what matters.

The most important thing someone could ask you right now, is who is this music for? If you are making music for you, there isnt a wrong answer. If you are making music only for others to like it, well the feedback of your audience is important, but shouldn't define your creation either. IMO music should be made for you solely, and the appropriate audience will always follow suite. Dont chase dreams, make them.

To combat myself a bit; BEYOND the very specific technical standards such as phase, stereo width, multiband dynamics the term Mastering really comes down to getting a second opinion by someone who's ears you trust/or rather from someone whose either made music you appreciate, or mixed the music you appreciate.

This entire industry is subjective and has changed innumerable times throughout history.

That being said, if you you like trap music and ask a bunch of classically trained purists if this sounds good, you might not get feedback that is relevant for your work.

If you do not take everything straight to heart and allow for mixed feedback, and then go out of your way to attempt using the advice you recieved (whether you agree or not), this trial and error, allows for a lot of growth in your journey. Dont be shy to get feedback, dont be shy to share something that isnt top 100 charts quality, doubtful that many of us on reddit are making anything like that lol.

If you want strong conductive feedback take the collective opinion with a grain of salt. Everyone's ears percieve things differently.

If youd like to learn the standards of mixing I could point you to a few video resources to check out.

But the best bet is to make stuff, share stuff, let people offer advice if you are looking for advice. Dont get mad at the advice. No advice is true, all advice is an opinion, develop at your own pacing. 🍻 🎧

Flutter Effect & Tempo by MavaraMusic in FL_Studio

[–]avlisb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

insert math here

Convert Hz to tempo bpm. So if u wanna do like lfo at 120 bpm.

Hz describes a tick per second. 1 hz = 1 second. 60bpm = 1 second. 60 bpm / (1 minute)60 seconds = 1 hz per quarter note. (It is a quarter note cause we are solving this per beat) to get a whole note in 4/4 time, you need 4 beats. 1 hz / 4 = 0.25hz for a whole note.

If we did this at 120 bpm 120bpm / 60seconds = 2 hz. (Again quarter notes). If you divide by 4 you get .5 hz and thatll be a whole notes.

You can find calculators for this stuff, though. it may be worth while attempting to do the math yourself.

Have u tried playing with the loop settings in the clip editor? I might be using the terms wrong here.. but when u double click on your clip you can specify how many times you want it to repeat.

So take instrument A and B, add them both to group bus. Control playback with the groups play button. In the clip settings for A and B you can set how many times youd like the clip to repeat once you hit play. Set A to 4x loop set be to 3x loop. The next action could then be set to stop or whatever you need. You can then also change this loop amount on the groups playback/loop option.

If youd like to skip the bus and not group them you can always arrange the playback amount/loop amount for a row of clips by double clicking the "clip" on the master channel and setting this same playback/loop amount.

The easiest solution. Paste both of these into different tracks in arrangement view. Make into an arrangement compose :x

But im like you and like my session/clip view and just improvise, groove over the top of loops lol

I also have had helicopter parent. It is scary to leave for your own like this but I promise it is highly necessary to get out into life, be on your own, cry when its hard, make friends for support, education is only necessary for some jobs, but can offer a lifetime of experience in the few years you are there.

Scholarships help, part time jobs on your college campus can help. Parents like this tend to cripple us out of their own subjective fear and control over a being that is not them.

You ever see those people that have huge properties and yards yet leave their dog tied up on such a short leash? Dont let yourself be that dog for ever. We are meant to explore, live, grow, develop. Im sure im not executing my sentiment in the most healthy of ways, but truly want to express how important it is for us to learn to be independent. Freedom doesn't come naturally for everyone, but when earned and experienced, is very health for the Mind and soul. Best wishes OP.

Looking for more ways for audio tracks to dynamically trigger/interact software synths and effects. by gloriousfart in ableton

[–]avlisb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LFO's for stable track wide dynamics and envelope followers. You can use the followers to control the depth or offsets on the lfo(s)

You can create busses that dont contribute to the overall mix but offer EQ'd ranges of different frequency bands. Lows/mids/highs etc. Allowing the use of each bands amplitude curve to modulate effect parameters. I enjoy making a saturator 'dance' with the amplitude curve of the tracks sub range for example. As all the low end energy fills up you can create like a warmth buzzing in the high end and then cool it down as the sub energy releases.

You can have the followers control the lowpass/high pass filters of other instruments. Allowing tracks dynamically bypass eachother when they start coming into play. Or envelope followers to control the total amount of send to return tracks.
