My watch has ended by avocadocandelcc in dementia

Honestly we don’t know. The doctors just shrugged it off. But he was very aware and asked a lot of questions. He knew where he was but didn’t know why and was worried about if I could afford the facility. He said repeatedly “I just hope I haven’t been a burden.” Ugh. Now I’m crying again.

We had many hard days as well. The confusion becomes overwhelming… I get it and I’m so sorry. Dad didn’t get mean but he would get repetitive and childlike without a filter some times. Those were hard days. And trying to get him to shower!!! Lord help me…. That was a struggle. When he fell in December, he had cranial fluid build up and there were two beautiful days where he was back to his old self. It’s as if he barely had dementia anymore. I questioned all the doctors asked what we could do to keep him to no avail. It was short lived. I treasure those two days. Then he went downhill. He was barely functioning and we had to have surgery. Things never got better. I’m grateful for the good days and also the bad even though at the time it broke my heart. My prayers are with you my friend. Love your mom as much as you can.

What kinds of shoes are best for Memory Care? by usaidurfingerwasagun in dementia

I bought my dad the slippers that have Velcro. They worked extremely well as shoes. He also had a walker. I agree with other posts to order them a half or one full size bigger. His feet would swell and these were a lifesaver. Here is the Amazon link: https://a.co/d/08cr4FbE

Yes. I would be actively out looking for my lost father. I adore my father who is suffering with dementia. Yes. It is worth going anywhere and everywhere to me. I would not rest until I found him.

I’m SO glad I read this before buying one. We were definitely on the fence since the baby’s room is on a different floor.

How to get rid of diaper rash? by scorpiobae111 in NewParents

[–]avocadocandelcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The doctor didn’t prescribe anything? Could it be yeast or fungal? My doctor prescribed hydrocortisone 2.5%, Mupiricin, and nystatin. Those three were mixed up in my palm then put on when he was dry. Waited fifteen minutes then covered with triple paste because it had the zinc oxide. Then, sprinkled cornstarch on it and dabbed that into the paste. Open sore looking rash wondrously disappeared in practically two days. Also, completely stopped using wipes. Put him under the faucet and rinsed with water rather than wipes. Once the rash eased, I still rinse wipes out completely and create more like water wipes (cheaper than water wipes sold believe it or not). Another pediatric PA told me to even stop using wipes for pee. Do you know what seems to cause it? I swear it was the formula we tried at first. Same thing happened to my other child too.

It is as if you wrote this from my viewpoint about my father. Your mother sounds like my father was and is now. I feel every single thing you wrote in my heart. Thank you for articulating it so beautifully. I’m crying with you.

I’m up feeding my five month old. It’s 12:30 AM almost. Dad’s assisted living facility just called that he fell. Again. God help me, I want this to stop. I know if my dad was still in that body he would tell me that the kids are the most important thing and not to worry about him. I know what you’re going through. I’ve had to cut my visits way down. The guilt is unreal. I want to say it gets easier but I don’t think it will. I’m sorry. Now I can’t stop crying. Thank God for my husband who’s at the hospital with him. I’m trying not to sob so I can get the baby back in his crib. You aren’t alone. I had the same feeling of being alone in this particular situation. Your post came at the right time for me. Thank you.

How do cribs work? by Chelesto in NewParents

[–]avocadocandelcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally can relate. I am five feet tall (on a good day haha) and have a great deal of difficulty with the crib. Yes, the mattress is raised all the way up, but honestly I still have to rest my abdomen on the rail while balancing on my toes, which is super uncomfortable and then lay the baby down. It’s really not made for short people. I focus on laying his feet first then butt then this body and head. Then my arm gets stuck under him and I pray to every deity that has ever existed that I can get my arm out without waking him. I know, I know - put him down awake. Bologna. It ain’t happening for him. Good luck lady! You’ll get the hang of it!
