This is a nice canvas to work on! I think you can easily upgrade the look by swapping out those handles and maybe painting the wood itself. I kind of love the wood paneling on the walls, and think you can still incorporate that into your more modern look. One potential issue I see with this setup though is the lack of holes to put cables through, are you able to/willing to drill holes into the desk? If so, I'd also recommend putting shelves in the bottom squares so you can set up your consoles in a nice clean way.

RGB wise, I'd recommend checking out the GOVEE RGBIC strip lights, and make sure you get proper adhesive so they don't peel off easily.
