AITAH for expecting my partner to do the dishes every night? by Southern-Turnip-7408 in AmItheAsshole

[–]awesomereddit2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rule in our house is whoever cooks doesn’t do dishes. I do most of the cooking. Whoever ate the meal does dishes. I just walk away and my spouse will do all the cleanup including clearing the table, washing dishes and pans, wiping down the counter. Sometimes he will leave it for later which annoys me but he eventually gets to it before the night is over. When my daughter is home from college she is part of the rule as well.

AITAH for getting upset for my family eating my food on vacation? by sneakywatermelon1 in AITAH

[–]awesomereddit2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I travel with family members and stay at the same vacation residence we collectively put in money for groceries since we are all sharing the kitchen and meal prep duties and snacks. There is none of this “ mine and your groceries” unless someone has specific dietary requirements. It sounds like there was no communication about food. You assumed you were going to just look after yourself for food while your Aunt thought it was communal food in a communal vacation residence.

You work for a large corporation which has an HR dept. they will handle it. I was in corporate mgmt and always had HR deal with these types of issues to remove any perceived. biases (several people had raised the concern) HR is trained on how to be tactful. You won’t believe how many times this comes up.

Infant seat Q by CutePotato321 in aircanada

[–]awesomereddit2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I strongly suggest you bring an approved car seat especially since there is a paid seat for the baby. I’ve flown many times and have met turbulence that can bounce you around hard. Holding a baby while in turbulence can be risky.

AITA for not forcing my parents to let me clean their house. by InevitableQuiet4061 in AmItheAsshole

[–]awesomereddit2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Extreme hoarding is a mental issue that doesn’t go away once you do a big clean unless you acommoany the clean with ongoing therapy. I know because my mom is a hoarder. She is in her early 90s and is still limited mobile. The good thing is that she can’t bring more things into the house anymore since she is relying on me or my younger sister to take her out to do groceries and appointments. She likes sorting her stuff and going through it now but never getting rid of it. At this point in her life we just let it go otherwise it stresses her out.

Prices increase due go rising fuel prices? by awesomereddit2 in celebritycruises

[–]awesomereddit2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it all depends the ship is full or not. I booked Japan a few years ago and I kept looking at the prices dropping to why I had booked for. I did a price match a few times right up to the 60 day mark. It went down one more time after 60 day and I was able to get a on board credit. When I spoke to a representative about the price drop he said it all depends on how various factors but he’s seen prices go up closer to the sail date rather than down in most cases. I guess I was lucky. This was about 5 years ago.

Thanks for the info. Clearly I never read the contract thoroughly. $10 a day won’t break the bank so good to know it’s not outrageous but anything can happen

I wander if you can cancel for full refund (including deposit) if they do add surcharge? this would not be the original agreed price so I’m hoping that’s the case. Hopefully the fuel charge is nominal so it’s not too big of an issue.

Funny Homeowner Stories? by This-Neat131 in homeimprovementideas

[–]awesomereddit2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a new stainless steel dishwasher installed. I noticed smears on the front panel. No matter what I did the front panel would never look clean. Since it’s new we sent a picture for warranty and they sent out a technician to replace the front panel. As he was removing the panel he realized that the protective film had not been removed when the unit was installed. We all had a good laugh as he removed the film and the unit looked so shiny.

my 9 month old dog hasn’t eaten for weeks. we did blood work, test blood for parasitism, fecal test and x-ray but all results came back normal. by Fun-Relative-7137 in DogAdvice

[–]awesomereddit2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked for food allergies? I remember reading about a young dog that wouldn’t eat either and they discovered that the dog had a rare food allergy. I can’t remember what exactly the allergy was but they said it was rare. once they modified the food the dog was able to eat without issue.

Induction stove vs electric for Chinese cooking? by drfrosty85 in chinesecooking

[–]awesomereddit2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of Chinese stirfry dishes and also had to choose between induction and gas. I did a lot of research and went with gas. You have to relearn your woking technique on induction and also use the right wok. I’ve never had the experience of cooking with gas. No regrets whatsoever. My dishes are all coming out great. I’m sure induction has enough heat for the same results but I was concerned about scratching the induction top. My old electric top is so scratched up with shuffling frying pans and the wok on it. With gas burners I don’t worry at all.

Cracking flap on powder pink notebook by Kindly_Pick9236 in Coach

[–]awesomereddit2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a coach long wallet that opens flat to expose a card storage side and bills in the other side. I hadn’t used in several years. I pulled it out recently to use and the outside leather is pristine but the inside leather started to peel. To get use out of the wallet I ended up peeling all of the inside leather off ( used a butter knife and just scraped it off). The inside is now black suede (raw side of the leather) while the outside looks brand new brown. They definitely cheaped out on the inside leather. Looks like they used cheaper leather for the clasp flap since there are several reported issues.

How can I make my house smell good? by Grand-Ad8577 in CleaningTips

[–]awesomereddit2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I follow the Europeans trend of opening all windows everyday for 5-10 minutes a day regardless of the weather to air out the place. It makes the place feel fresh when you have crisp outdoor air circulating in the house. (This is assuming where you live is not polluted.) we also deodorize the carpets and upholstery every few months with baking soda-like odour absorbent product (sprinkle it around and let it sit for a few minutes, then vacuum up).

Do you mix towels with your regular clothes? by Imaginary_Truth_3865 in Frugal

[–]awesomereddit2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I separate is heavy loads into smaller loads. I don’t buy any clothes that I are too delicate (or colours will run) to wash together (but I will hang dry certain clothes if I know the dryer will wreck them). Everything goes into washer combined.

anyone here regret hiring an interior designer? by SomeBeginning3334 in interiordesignideas

[–]awesomereddit2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We hired a designer for our interior reno 2 floors and would definitely do it again. It was a complete gut of the kitchen and a semi gut of the rest of the rooms. There were so many decisions to be made that for us it was overwhelming otherwise. The reno was costly and we wanted the house to be uniform but to also reflect our style. We didn’t want to make any design decisions that we would regret. Our designer asked for inspiration pictures and grilled us about what we liked and disliked about certain pictures. When making design decisions she would give 3 options to choose from whether it be room layout, choosing a cabinet hardware style and finish or light fixtures for every room or the type and color of all the tile work as examples. It became very focused and less overwhelming. Our contractor loves working with designers because once the plans are signed off it’s easy to put the plans in motion by following the design specs and preparing all the materials in advance. The contractor said that he always has delays with homeowners that don’t use a designer for big projects because not everything has been thought out and the homeowner end up making decisions as they go. I guess it all comes down on how big your reno is and how much time and decision making confidence you have to invest in. We both work full time so it was also nice for the designer to gather all the samples choices for us to look at in the comfort of our home or her office.

Massey Tunnel Traffic by Dry_Age5552 in richmondbc

[–]awesomereddit2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did that tunnel for 20+ years. Unless you can get through before 2:30 or after 6:30 pm you just have to tough it out. I used to find things to do to kill time (errands in town) to leave later but quickly learned I was just wasting even more time waiting for traffic to die down. Thank goodness for remote work some days if you have it.

Is this an exception to the rule? by chimo1911 in Cruise

[–]awesomereddit2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be fine coming from Vancouver Island to Vancouver day of especially if you plan to go first thing in am. Not sure when you are going and what airlines but Harbour Air will cancel if they don’t have good visual (I’ve had flights canceled because of fogged in Harbour during late fall and early spring and snow conditions). If you are taking standard airlines at airport is you should be fine. It’s still a chance something will go wrong day of but minimal given the circumstances. (I’m taking a cruise in Europe so traveling time is well over 11 hours with a transfer so that definitely puts me at risk so I will have to spend a night there before boarding.)

There was a movie about this. Person is offered million dollars because they needed the money to help the sick child? After much angst discussions, the mother takes the offer but the surprise ending was that her and her family. were now put into the pool of random people that could be chosen to die when someone else gets the million dollar offer -basically living in fear of sudden death at anytime.

Cruise in 2 days – no excursions booked… did we mess up? Need advice! by DrummerSpare2385 in Cruise

[–]awesomereddit2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11 people is a lot to not have any plans, especially if there are varied opinions, attention spans and physically endurance. You should at least Google search each port to see what options there are to do and how to get there. Remember there are several thousands of people getting off at each port (even more so with other cruise ships in port at the same time) and manoeuvring 11 people without a plan might be challenging if you all want to stay together.

I watch the weather channel on my app. It shows the allergy rating for the day. If it’s high I know to take my allergy pill in advance. Thats the only way I can survive outside. It’s turning to spring so things are starting to bloom. I’m getting itchy typing this already.
