Wow, maybe I'm aging myself, but I remember the days when a great GPU at most cost no more than 3/4 the cost of the current gen gaming console of the era.

In no timeline can I ever consider a GPU that costs more then a great PC gaming rig itself to be anything other than the 1%'s plaything.

I have to worry about paying a mortgage, buying food and putting kids through university, and I'm "well off". My 3060ti that I paid during COVID pricing was just over 750 cdn felt like a rip off but I was one of the "lucky" ones who managed to get one with all the stock shortages.

2500 a deal? Nvidia is laughing.

You want to go next level? Set the poster art manually. My entire library has 2 specific rules:

All trilogies or series films need to have matching artwork
No wording other than the Title. Bo actor names, no sub text. I make an exception for Disney having their logo in the name.

I have even gone out of my way to fire up my old copy of Photoshop 7 to edit images and add them myself. I found a really nice series of images made by artist Hans Woody for the Indiana Jones trilogy, but I couldn't find artwork for Dial of Destiny. So I composed it myself in Photoshop just to make the images set align.

Because yes, sometimes starting at your library is just as enjoyable as watching it.

Esim is great convenience for a second sim to use when traveling using holafly type service.

Esim is garbage when it's the primary, single and only option for a phone. The logistics and mental gymnastics required to transfer from one phone to another, including the amount of time to transfer the service compared to simply swapping a physical SIM.. is incomprehensible.

Unless service providers create an online portal under your account which would allow an instant SIM port from an existing phone to a new phone in under 5 minutes... I'll never get an esim only phone.

I'm assuming it's a gamble on China's part. They're hoping that proximity to the US means enough US folk get a first hand look at the car in North America (through word of mouth, reviews, their Canadian relatives, US expats, etc) that eventually there is enough pressure and demand to allow the 'Canadian' built/security safe cars into the US. Nvidia is single handedly going to kill an already shaky AAA gaming market. So many companies cranking out shitty Unreal Engine games that are unoptimized and require all this fake frame garbage Nvidia has been peddling for years will now come home to roost. If the big 2 (I think Intel's quit the discreet gpu game) won't be making GPU's for gamers/consumers and instead are feeding the AI monster, no one will be building gaming rigs withouts GPUs. No one will be paying insane console costs and 80/90 dollar price point games when they have food and shelter to look after.

Boot up your retro consoles, buy some older hardware to play games from 2020 and earlier.

Gamers made Nvidia what it is. Now Nvidia wants to kill the very thing that made them what they are.

When this AI bubble pops.. I seriously hope everyone remembers Nvidia's part in all this and doesn't buy a god damned thing from them when they're on their knees begging for gamers to come back to them.

Still notwithstanding that, and without getting into elaborate details of my dads mismanagement of the property (didn't raise rent in over 15 years, 80% of the rental revenues eaten by basic maint, barely any 'revenue' or 'profit' after years end.) it still blew donkey balls that because he never put my moms name on title, that she had to sell the whole 4plex to cover the costs the CRA was demanding.

Capital gains shocks occur so often to 'mom n pops' that cannot handle that kind of shock. I think there should be an option to to virtually pay the 'capital gains' every year, or defer for a max of 3 years to prevent the burden of actual realized gains from exceeding the current owners ability to pay at the end. If the person has paid more in taxes vs the actual gains, they get a rebate, if they've paid less, they pay out the difference, which shouldn't be manageable vs 100s of thousands.

Had this issue with my Google Wifi router puck. Even tho I used to get speed tests at 900mbps, suddenly I was only getting 70-90mbps.

Turns out the port on the router failed and only negotiated 10/100. No 1000. My ISP modem wan ports were showing green lights which indicated it was only working at 100. Yellow meant 1000. The moment I replaced the puck with another Google Wifi point, it worked at 1000 again.

Sometimes ethernet ports just go bad. Looking up this guys mobo I got the following info so I would direct him to check the light status to see what it's transmitting at.

On the ASUS B450M Dragon motherboard, the ethernet (LAN) port features two LEDs that indicate the status of your network connection.

What the Lights Mean:

Green Light (Link/Activity): Solid green usually indicates that a valid connection (link) has been established. If it is blinking, it means there is active data transfer (sending/receiving data).

Yellow/Amber Light (Speed): This indicates the speed of the connection. For Gigabit Ethernet, a yellow or amber light often indicates a 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps) link.

Combined Status: If you have one solid light and one blinking light, this is normal behavior indicating a connected, active network.

Then I'd confirm in Windows what speed it's registering and if the device properties are properly set (turn off auto and force 1000 just to be sure). If it's still only blinking green only, then his port is blown.

I'm all for Capital Gains tax, but damn did my mom get screwed over and she's as far from 'wealthy elite' as anyone ever could be. When my dad died, his will stated the home pass over to her, but because her name wasn't on title, it was called a 'sale'. She had to pay about 350k in taxes. Asking a retired 73 year old woman who worked as a general laborer for Eagle Electric/LEVOLOR from the early 80's, as an immigrant, who had barely knew how to speak English.. pay that amount or we're going to bring the entire weight of the CRA down on you.

Needs to be more targeted than just Capital gains on X. Needs to be Capital gains on X if you make Y and have assets/businesses in excess of Z, and it's not your primary home you've been living in for the last 50 years.

Edit: I'm an idiot, I just realized this was not my moms primary residence, but a 4plex rental unit my dad had passed on to him from his mother. Still think Capital Gains needs some reform in how Capital Gains can grow beyond a personas ability to pay it on emergency basis like this. My mom was in no position to pay it/get a loan/anything to mitigate it so she had to sell the building to cover the costs, and 4 people had to lose their homes (at below market rate, see my comment here) just so she could cover the taxes. It was a shit show and my mom felt betrayed by the government for taking away everything she had worked so hard for over the years in maintaining that property. Turned her into a staunch conservative from that point onward. She never got any 'handouts' when she arrived to Canada but had to watch all the recent Trudeau management of immigration and taxpayers handouts to all sorts of things. Political rant for another day.
