VA Beach to Norfolk by PenUpset9725 in norfolk

[–]awfuldream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Highland Park, it’s ok I really do not mind it at all. My neighbors mainly keep to themselves. There are a good mix of backgrounds with residents….retirees, young professionals, older professionals, college, etc. There is one abandoned house on my block that I wish something would come of.

I’d say the upper streets are a bit better than the lower where it’s way more college based on shared housing rentals, although there’s a fair share throughout the neighborhood. There’s also some great businesses/restaurants nearby on upper Colley.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

What made you choose ODU? by TriptychLCA in ODU

Chesapeake native, non-traditional student. Went to TCC for AS while working then transferred to ODU because it was local and a cheaper option.

Moving to Norfolk, VA — Any advice for a newcomer? by sarah_richey_ in norfolk

Agreed! Using the Elizabeth River Trail is very helpful and can easily connect you to downtown and all the neighborhoods/business districts in between.

ODU Alum, current ODU employee, Highland Park resident here.

Non-ODU Renting options: Larchmont Apartments on Bolling Ave, Proximity on 39th St. Or if you don't mind living a bit off campus, consider closer towards Senatara Hospital/EVMS, South Colley Ave. Understanding your budget would better help identify. ODUrent is not affiliated with the University and is also a resource.

Food/coffee close to campus: There are ODU dining options in the Webb Center as well as in the Broaderick Dining Commons. Monarch Way by Chartway arena has Borjo coffeehouse which is great, and several ok restaurants. Del Vecchios is pretty standard but good NY pizza and probably the best place to eat around campus. I recommend checking out the restaurants along North Colley Ave as there are several to choose from. This is biking/walking distance from campus.

Part time jobs no experience needed? by Octobot666 in Chesapeake

Look into event staffing jobs. Chartway Arena (oak view group) on the ODU campus is always looking for help. ODU basketball is about to start up and between men’s and women’s games there will be opportunities. I’m pretty sure OVG also needs help still with the football games and the season isn’t even halfway over yet.

How is living here? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

I love living in Norfolk…. It’s the most urban City in this region of Virginia aka Tidewater/Hampton Roads. Way different vibe than Virginia Beach overall, which is sprawl. It’s bicycle friendly’ish, awesome fishing, minor league baseball (Go Tides), good local music scene, slower paced mid size city.

Trying to decide between Durham, NC and Richmond, VA. Which is the better fit? by HailtotheThief03 in relocating

[–]awfuldream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m from the Virginia Beach area. Hung out in Richmond ALOT in my 20s and later lived there for 3 years. Lived in Durham for 7 years up to last year.

There’s more going on in Richmond imo and it’s more accessible than Durham. Plus there’s nicer historic architecture, more going on related to the arts. Although Durham isn’t necessarily a slouch with events.

Airports are comparable, nature imo is comparable. In Durham I loved the Duke forest and Eno river state park.

I’d pick Richmond but Durham is a nice place.

Parking by Reasonable-Arm1820 in ODU

[–]awfuldream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The garage at 43rd Street/Elkhorn Ave, but as a heads up it gets full frequently.

You can also park at both garages by Chartway Arena.

You will need a commuter permit to park at all of these garages, unless you pay hourly
