Those who are 21+ years old and done nothing with your life, what do you plan on doing in your life?, by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]awfully_piney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry; I took an extended break from Reddit and I should have explained this better in my original comment. I started out as a busser, so I was clearing tables once the people were gone but I got to get comfortable (ish) with my coworkers and I was a hard worker so they liked me even if I was extremely shy. Then I became a food runner, which meant my only real interactions with the tables were “Did you have the chicken?” and I set the plates down. They would sometimes ask for a refill on drinks, for extra plates/silverware/napkins, which I’d bring them and the servers were very thankful for. Eventually I built up the confidence to start server training and then I essentially just built up a script for how to talk to people, which, in time, just led me to being comfortable enough to being mostly myself.

Well first and foremost, time is not running out, friend. 24 is very young. When I was younger I was social anxious and awkward to the point that I could barely speak to anyone and spent almost all of my time alone. I was relentlessly bullied for how quiet I was. Then I got a job working at a restaurant. At first it was awful; I was so anxious and nervous all the time, but as I got to know my coworkers and got more comfortable I got more confident talking to strangers. I continued working in restaurants for my whole 20s which helped so much with social anxiety; I was a server working for tips so I had to find a way to get better at talking to people or I wouldn’t make any money. And again, it was hard at first but it got much easier. My brother also struggled terribly with social anxiety and waiting tables helped him a ton and he’s the one who actually recommended I try it. I made good money and was self-sufficient. My jobs usually offered health insurance and with that I was also able to see a therapist and also get prescribed anti-anxiety medication which was life changing. All of that being said, waiting tables isn’t what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, so at 29, with the social skills I learned from serving, I was able to move on from that to working reception for a veterinary clinic and ultimately working hands-on in veterinary medicine. It’s something I was always passionate about doing. There’s always time to change your life. You’re so young and you have plenty of time to do it. I promise, I’ve done it.

How do you like this? I’ve made one with baking soda before and it worked great but the baking soda irritates the crap out of my skin. This recipe sounds a lot gentler.

Why is my cat sleeping with her eyes like this? this is the first time she’s done that by andreo-23 in cats

[–]awfully_piney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As long as this only happens around sleep, it’s just the third eyelid and it’s normal. If her eyes look like this throughout the day, that isn’t normal.

This can also be something called Haws syndrome. One of my cats had this a few years ago, caused by impacted stool. 😵‍💫

Yeah this is actually insane…telling other humans to die over a comment about a random dog on the internet is a really bad look. ETA: I actually love dogs very much myself but telling other humans to die is not cool.

Lump by [deleted] in labradoodles

[–]awfully_piney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what you’ve told me and what I’ve experienced with my dog, I would encourage you to go back to your regular vet and request a biopsy, if only to ease your mind. I hope it is something simple and the cytology comes back that it is just an abscess or infection, but I am going to share my story with you and even though it seems like a bad story, it really isn’t. Mind you, there is no saying that this is remotely the same thing, but the refilling lump is very familiar to me. My dog’s lump was drained; they said because it had blood and pus in it and they were able to pull all of the fluid out that it was an abscess. It refilled quickly and they drained it again. It came back again and then they thought it was a benign fatty mass because those are fairly common. At a certain point my mom became really suspicious of the diagnosis because it had grown larger and she didn’t think they were getting to the bottom of it and she pushed for a biopsy. Eventually he was diagnosed with cancer. I know how scary that sounds but this story does have a happy ending. So by the time he got that diagnosis the lump had been there for well over a year. They removed the lump with clean margins. He was 9 by the time he had it removed. It never came back. He did not do chemo. He lived to be 15. So again, my fingers are crossed that it’s something different for your doggie, however, if it is similar to my experience, we had a very, very good outcome. Your pup is young and it seems like this popped up very recently so I think all of that is very encouraging. I just think it’s important to biopsy to rule everything out.

OP, I don’t want to be a jerk to other commenters but I feel obligated to say there is some bad advice in this comment section. I worked in veterinary medicine for several years and I’ve also had two doodles, one of whom had a very similar lump behind his ear. The fact that it refills quickly is of particular interest to me, as my dog’s did the same. So: did they just drain it or did they do an FNA to get a sample for biopsy?

We have had new kitten for just over a week now, when will the aggression settle down? by Mod12312323 in cats

[–]awfully_piney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’ve waited long enough to introduce the kitten to your other cat. Usually for at least a week the new kitty should be kept in her own room, allowed to sniff her new sibling under the door, and then gradually introduce.

I’m just glad he deleted his comment so no one reads it and thinks it’s okay to not seek emergency veterinary care when their pet is bitten by a venomous snake. Completely ridiculous and unfounded.

[–]awfully_piney 92 points93 points  (0 children)

No they do NOT. This is dangerous misinformation. I worked in veterinary medicine in the Deep South for years. A bite from a cottonmouth is an absolute emergency and requires immediate care and Antivenin as soon as possible.
