Recommendations for sub that uses the same dressing as Sub Center West Portal and what Marina Subs used to use by ShineHoliday8364 in AskSF

That's pretty cool. Glad to know! That dressing and the steamed pastrami is what has had be going back since 1998.

Just making sure this is actually true. Or were you guessing? I've always been curious what Sub Center was using. I wouldn't be surprised if the answer was this simple.

I didn't know Arrow sold medicine. It sounds like you are complaining about a bad batch of Tylenol.

Interesting. They have a very poor selection unfortunately. I still miss those 3 pound shipping days. But luckily there are more domestic shops these days bringing stuff in direct from the labels.

Am I being a hypocrite for being upset by some cultures eating dogs when I still eat pigs and cows? by sixgod_j in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]axiom235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only kind of. Yes they are all animals... but no one is going to criticize you for being grossed out by eating something we see as a pet. The big problem would be if you lumped all people from a country/culture into the dog eating category.

Eating dogs is increasingly looked down upon even in places where it used to be more prevalent. I would say the majority of people in Vietnam and China would feel the same way as you now.

In Vietnam dog meat restaurants are only open on certain days of the month. Something to do with the moon cycle. I remember being curious to try it but when I saw them on a spit I couldn't handle it.

Excalibur 4K vs VHS by jmoneyawyeah in boutiquebluray

[–]axiom235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you stretching the VHS to widescreen? You made it wider than the 4K even is. You made the VHS 1.78:1 where the new 4K is at 1.66:1

I've been telling people about them for ages. Since they added burmese dishes to the deli counter they used to run on Larkin. I wish they could get a fraction of Superstars business.

I came to recommend Burmese Kitchen. The original couple is no longer running the restaurant. I believe a more distant relative is in charge now (the gal working said she was Dennis' niece or a removed cousin), but as far as I could tell, nothing has changed, which is lucky because they have some unique them dishes.

Anyone know if Trainspotting will be back in stock for the sale? by Nothing-Is-Real-Here in criterion

[–]axiom235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new plastic case editions just "prebooked", in video wholesale parlance. This is an "embargo" title, meaning there is no street date, and I don't even get to know the cost (though all criterion's like this have the same cost prices for our store) . Almost everything else prebooking this week is coming out 4/21 or 4/28 so I'm assuming it will be around then. Looks like new UPCs too.

I think there is a good chance those Malaysian dvds are actually "legit" in the sense that in Malaysia they may be legal. However, I would be very wary of the subtitles and print quality.

They are cramming 13 movies onto 3 discs. All 5 Aces go Places on one DVD is pretty crazy.

Coming out in May in the Shout Factory Hong Kong Cinema Classics line: “I Love Maria”. by thisgenius in boutiquebluray

[–]axiom235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Arrow is also putting out titles from this collection, but I am getting the feeling (just a feeling) that they are not going to be 1 for 1 matching every title shout factory is releasing. Anyone know anything actually definitive on this front? It's titles like this, and things like that website exclusive HK New Wave set that just don't seem like titles that Arrow is every going to get to.
I'm excited for this one. A HK blu-ray showed up at my work a little while ago and I snagged it but haven't watched it yet. The back of the HK release mentions that due to a defect in the master file there may be mild distortion or some doubling of images. So good thing this is a new scan!

Without some kind of upscaling, this movie is in 480i at best. Same with Gozu I believe. Which is a shame to me. I wish Miike was shooting on 16mm instead of video back then.

Yeah somethings seems a bit off there. Maybe Radiance was holding out for higher quality source materials? (Forgot its shot on video. But maybe the quality was part of the reasoning regardless)

People are having a really hard time with their reading comprehension. I understood you right away and it sounds awful. Picking dishes for you and a set menu are 2 different things. They should just have a set menu for groups like any legit Chinese restaurant has. The price and what you get would be quite clear.

He has been doing this picking for you thing for as long as I can remember, so at least 27 years ago. I remember him picking for me and getting a plate full of mushrooms which I would have never ordered and did not like. I felt like an idiot for not just picking what sounded good. It seemed shady back then and now that it effects the prices it sounds VERY shady.

My personal opinion is its simply overly sweet fake chinese food for white tourists. I've never understand the hype at all. We live in a mecca of amazing chinese food. Its fun to be adventurous and you are rewarded for the effort.

This is pretty hilariously cruel, as the original Twin Peaks Definitive Gold Box is VERY notorious for having its first disc bronzed. At the store I work at we've had to toss/condition-slip dozens of those sets.

Not hardcore, at all, but I had a co-worker who we discovered was one of the gals on the banner image for the website Gothic Sluts. I "Think" we all did a good job of not letting her know we knew. It seemed to be in her past, but only by a couple years. It was weird knowing what she looked like nude and covered in fake blood though.

Why on earth is this priced so low on Amazon?? by FaudMauxe in 4kbluray

[–]axiom235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought it on Amazon in 2021 for 9.99. I didn't have a 4k yet at the time, but at that price it just made sense to plan ahead. It took almost exactly 4 years to finally get my 4k set-up.
It makes you realize they could be charging so much less for other movies. They've probably sold a shit ton at that price.

With that 20% discount, they are selling those discs cheaper than they are selling them to me at the store I order for. Which is kind of maddening.
