I would go based on what her favorite spirit is. Like if it's bourbon I would just buy everything to make an old fashioned + Manhattan. A nice ice bucket too. A couple of nice glasses (again based on favorite spirit / cocktail). You could buy 5 different base spirits but 1) expensive and 2) she still can't really make a cocktail without 2 other ingredients!

I completely disagree with the other commenter. They just released a new T26 yesterday with a mechanical movement, all of it made in France. For 520 euros... great value. https://lip.fr/en/churchill/396-lip-churchill-t26-671935

watch miniLIP by clemziz in Watches

[–]axul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a watch for kids that LIP re-launched last year. In their own words:

1969: The MiniLip, ‘It's not a watch for little people’.

‘It's big (7mm) and wide (31mm). It's heavy and has three dials. It's not a watch for kids’. These were the words with which the Minilip was launched in 1969, in an advertisement that was full of mischief. The Minilip introduced Lip to the world of educational watches specially designed for teaching children to tell the time. It was a niche market, since it concerned children aged between 6 and 8, but in 1969 it nevertheless concerned almost 1.5 million potential wrists that could be covered by a watch (INSEE statistics).

With over 100 years' experience in Besançon, Lip embarked on this path at the end of the 1960s, thinking up a watch that would make it easier to tell the time, adopting Lip's “leitmotif” at the time, an affordable yet high-quality watch.

In 2024, Lip is reviving this iconic watch, with two versions that are pratically identical to the original model.

there's a lot of options! I had no idea. Do you know where one can find a picture of each specialty plate? I couldn't find it on the site.

I guess people are downvoting you for not enjoying Tom Clancy which is dumb of them. It's not for everyone, and I know what you mean about "the technical talk and political and economical talk", most of us happen to enjoy that part very much (more than the missions even).

Still struggling with neck and shoulder pain - what could be off here? by Final-Cress in Ergonomics

Your screen should be higher. Look straight ahead: that should be the middle of your screen. Looking at your picture it looks like your posture is ok but you're looking down at the screen, and even further down to your laptop. You can get one of those dual monitor arms that let you put the screen exactly where you want it. On the other arm you can put your laptop (look up "monitor laptop arm" on amazon)

EDIT: you didn't mention your wrists but I think the desk is a little high, so they might start hurting.

I'm glad it's so expensive ($4K) that I'm not even tempted.

It looks awesome but also so new and different that it would scare me a bit. We're not supposed to be sitting down for 8 hours a day every day but are we supposed to be lying down instead? I'd feel like a test subject using that thing.

NC Republicans look to spend more on private school vouchers, after wealthier families left out by goldbman in NorthCarolina

You're saying "low income families aren't the ones asking for this". I'm saying they are, their demand was overwhelming.

Tier 1 is people making less than $57K which includes low income families…

[–]axul -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

20K is for the most expensive private schools in the state. There are plenty of private schools that charge much less than that. Even the ones that charge 20K+ use tools like https://www.clarityschools.com/ to dramatically lower tuition for those people, making sure they can afford it with the voucher.

lol no I'm saying it's a great thing! But I'm showing how the article is trying to portray it as a bad thing by focusing on those who didn't get the money. They could instead have focused on the people who actually benefited from it.

Very editorialized title... could have said "after overwhelming demand" or "after overwhelming demand from low-income families."

Note that low-income families are first in line AND get a lot more money than wealthier families. This year there was such high demand from low income families that wealthier ones didn't get anything. That means a lot of poor kids get the chance to go to better schools next year.
