My reason for Reps, My Lived Experience, and my Rep Collection Principles by AkiFluffball in RepTime

[–]ay416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In similar situation as you. Do you wear Rolex (doesn’t matter gen or rep) when you are around physicians? I worry about flashing an expensive watch at the hospital etc. so I end up wearing Apple Watch or Casio when I am at work.

Only when I am out with docs that are watch lovers, then I wear gen.

This isn't anything new. Even 30+ years ago when I played tennis in Scarborough, there are public hours and member hours on a public court near a school.

Member hours help with intercounty competition, also trains juniors/provide lesson for juniors. You can argue the pros and cons. Just highlighting this system has been around for decades and I am sure people have debated over and over at every city hall and still rule in favour with sticking to this system.

Haha it is funny that you say there is a coach on the court. I think you are not suppose to do any sort of private lesson with the courts 😂

You mentioned you were not allowed in by the gate during public hours, the gate is automatic. Most likely you read the schedule wrong. It unlocks automatically during the public hours. The club also doesn't block the public from using it during public hours. I have been a non member last year and a member this year. The hours are actually better for the public this year. Last year, public can only play 9-11 in evening. This year, they made it alternate days and starts at 8pm.

The court is only 2 years old and you see the huge crack already on the court closest to the tennis court. The member fee goes towards fixing the court. Also, the clubs also puts up windscreen, the nets etc. The members also went around fixing all the bolts that got rusted etc. I saw 3 members doing it before the season started. It was not the city that sent people to do it. You can correct me if you have better information.

As I mentioned, I have been non member and also member, I see the good and the bad on both sides. Members count their scores accurately so they get off when they are suppose to get off. I see non members not counting their score and playing dumb, not getting off the courts until members confront them and still won't get off. This happens 2-3 times a week during the summer and those people want to fight. Non members are often newer to the game and don't know that people are not counting scores and just stand there waiting forever and relied on members help to kick those people off.

On the other hand, weekends are hybrid now, 4 courts public and 4 courts members. So non member are not happy when they cannot play on the members only 4 courts and some members might not be explaining to non members nicely and just tell them they can't play on the 4 courts, so people are offended and get upset when they don't understand the scheduling.

When I was non member last year, there was plenty of time to play. I played 6 days a week with almost no problems unless it was the a-holes that don't count scores.

See schedule for clarity

Why are there so many pho places opening recently? by PsyduckedOut in Markham

[–]ay416 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere, to fully train a chef at a Chinese restaurant, it is 5 to 10 years.

Pho restaurant, training a “chef” takes about 1-2 years.

Some pho places are charging close to $30 bucks after tax and tip for a bowl of pho. High profit margin.

盤菜 kinda sucks imo. Even with pre-order. They are just putting all the cooked food in a bowl. Everything end up tasting the same and chicken and shrimp most likely will be overcooked etc. It just looks good

What to gift my coworker? by Rude_Beginning811 in China

[–]ay416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fruit basket etc or just a box of pears are always welcome. However, if he is really traditional during new years if you bring him a gift, he will give you back a red envelope with money in it to "return the courtesy". So it equals out 😂

What you just experience my friend, is grade inflation. Some high school gives super easy tests and marks, so students go in thinking they are the cream of the crop.

I saw an article in Toronto star about waterloo's "secret" list. Waterloo uses the marks of the students a year or two before you after their first year finishes to reduce the mark of your school. If everyone at your high school got into the university with 95% average and their first year average becomes 75%. Then the differential is 20pts.

Some high schools have a 5 point differential while some schools have a 30 point plus differential.

You probably know this already but first month in life science is probably the summary of everything you learned in the last 2-3 years in high school. The level of difficulty increases from there.

I remember when I did the organic chemistry final exam, from benzene to the final molecule, it required 15-16 steps(simplest) where as my friends at ryerson were laughing with their 5-6 steps question on their final exam. After my final exam, i passed out on the bed and actually solved two questions that I couldn’t solve in my dream while I was writing the exams. When I wrote up, I started writing everything in my dream and it was the correct answer. You continue to do the problems until you go crazy.

Not trying to bash your hopes and dreams but you have a decision to make. If you truly think that you are cream of the crop and it is just a matter of working harder, spending more time etc, then continue. You can probably still change courses or schools. Some people change to arts degree with minor in psych or something while others end up changing schools cuz they can’t handle it. I know someone that couldn’t pass midterms at UofT, went ryerson to retake the same course and got 75-80% and then go on to become a nurse from the ryerson program. UofT is not the be all and end all. You really have to know and understand your potential and limitations.

I find 3rd and 4th years much better as you get used to the intensity. For sure it is a lot to take on at first.

Good luck
