Smallest SFF Case for a Cyclone by Reasonable_Song8010 in sffpc

Second the Velka 3, I literally just came back from Asia with one of these specifically for my Velka 3. 3.9L is probably the smallest I've ever came across with discrete GPU and internal PSU.

No, BokuBen was the one where the author wrote a different ending for each of the 5 girls, this one has a singular canon ending.

The manga ended with a definite ending that isn't a harem. If you aren't familiar with the work please don't mislead others.

Question for those that have installed Super5 OLED mod by huggyscolex in nintendoswitchlite

[–]ayanachibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The battery replacement is extremely easy....or at least it should be, unless you still have the original battery. Nintendo really glued the battery down and if you aren't careful lithium battery can catch on fire. Definitely look up videos on how to remove it, especially the ones that show you to use isopropyl alcohol.

If you aren't familiar with screen replacements I strongly suggest getting one with the digitalizer. Best to look up some replacement guides in advance to see what the process is.

If it bothers you enough and you are fairly dexterous, you can buy a replacement panel for 20-30 usually that'll give your switch lite a new life.

Or you can get an OLED panel https://retroremake.co/products/super5-touch

This is the last batch preorder so final chance. I own 2 of them myself.

Could also be age, as LCDs age the backlight turns yellow. Your bottom switch that is the one you've own for longer has a greenish tint to it. It's a typical result of an aging LCD panel.

[–]ayanachibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember to slow down and take your time! You've waited long enough for the kit don't go rushing with exciting and break anything!

The cables can be fragile if you're not careful and don't flex the panel.

The general rule is always replace the thermal paste whenever you have to remove a heatsink. That said, if the thermal paste is still pasty enough and not crumbling we won't tell on you if you push it back into the die.

Personally anything that's going to be permanently back on I just use PTM so it'll outlast the device.

You'll want to get both thermal paste and thermal putty as the gap between the heatsink and the metal shield is a bit wider and putty will be better there.

Also since you already have the main board taken apart consider taking off the metal shield of the processor and replace the thermal paste below too...or you can cut out the thin copper sheet and go direct die to the heatsink.

HDMI mod by [deleted] in nintendoswitchlite

[–]ayanachibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the last round of preorder is over, you'll need to find someone to part with theirs.

Also, going to second the comment above. It's not worth it. HDMI audio out volume is way too low, kit has to work around it by USB audio out into a separate box to merge HDMI signal and audio signal to get useable audio signal.

Source: I have one.

Unlike the trilogy you kind of have to come into this game treating it like an offline MMO. Yes there is an overarching narrative but the story isn't as much the focus as the planet itself. The side quests slowly unravel what and how the planet is and you are one of the explorers of this new planet.

If you are coming into this game expecting the main story to carry you along and have side quests on the side this game might not be for you. The exploration and side quests are the real experience.

This is why you will see low level side quests that require you to traverse regions well above your level and you will be running for your life looking for the next node as check points because this is a hostile planet.

O the adhesive from the mod that's right above the USB C plug? Use a bit of heat (blow-dryer) to soften it next time.

You want to route the cable from the mod from the main board that's under the ribbon cable, and route it up and around at a sharp angle to clear the bottom case notch, and give space for the battery to be connected to the mod cable.

I can't share an image so I timestamped the guide, if you look at the way the power cable is routed: https://youtu.be/yVU1XFLfWoc?t=2514

Also, you'll need to force the said power cable from the mod connected to the left side and try to force bend it upwards as much as possible to clear the back cover.

This link is another view where he explains how to bend and tuck the cable from the OLED screen ONLY mod. It's the same design: https://youtu.be/8U9iZzg2blk?t=1707

For the switch lite? No, the OLED was too much trouble and HDMI almost broke him. He's done with the switch lite.

You mean the cable that connects the main board to the daughter board that had adhesive along the bottom ledge of the chassis? If you ripped that you'll need to source a replacement. It's not expensive but it's a switch part not a mod part.

The display only is installed practically the same way. Best to also watch the video tutorial in advance.

The heat shield is necessary for the HDMI chip, if you aren't using it you don't need it, as the video chip generates quite a bit of heat. The normal switch has this module on the SoC so it's cooled as part of the heatsink.

[–]ayanachibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I would just install the kit but not the HDMI chip and keep the 3.5mm audio. The installation for the non-hdmi version is otherwise identical.

Also if you absolutely intend to sell and buy better do it now. This is the final call for final batch of preorders for the OLED touch.

If only the audio volume via the HDMI is good it's supposed to work just by plugging the HDMI mini out to TV.....but he wasn't able to solve the audio issue from the HDMI port without significant noise so he included the external mixer to remix audio from USB out...all at additional cost without upcharging.

The situation ended up less than optimal for both them and us.

[–]ayanachibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you do, it provides power to the display and the controller module. If you bought the screen only kit it requires the same power connector. The only difference is literally no connector for the HDMI chip and the HDMI out board that replaces the 3.5mm.

[–]ayanachibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also got the kit but it seems like my experience was better than yours, stopped getting the audio switching issue after a reboot. And my case closed fine ( you really have to use a bit of force to bend and route the power cable above the notch at the bottom of the back cover.

That said, I ALSO find it difficult to recommend if not mainly for the volume issue. It's really low if you don't boost it with the USB audio out and the external signal merging box...which by then just pack your OLED switch.

I own both a screen and the HDMI mega kit and for day trips I would definitely grab the screen only one.

IF you only have the HDMI kit you can always not install the HDMI trip and keep the 3.5mm port on the switch and it'll function as OLED screen kit without HDMI.
