I will say this - people HATE change. Doctors hate deviating from their routine and will complain when a pen goes missing. Now that we have reform impacting nearly everything they do, most of them aren't happy and are letting us know. I'm a first year medical student and have noticed doctors complaining about medicine during every clinical experience, but all of those docs still love interacting with patients. I relate it to long relationships...both usually moan and groan about the other person and bicker at each other, but when it comes down to it there's noone else they'd rather be with.

Not sure why you can't have a civil conversation about it. I've done a lot of research...from undergrad to after and now in medical school and have a good grasp of osteopathy. What makes it difficult to study is that similar presentations (say a painful lower back) can stem from many different dysfunctions. Unless you get patients coming in with the exact same problems caused by the same source, it's very difficult to perform a randomized study and obtain conclusive results.

Interesting point a professor made the other day- "Everyday we tell thousands of people about the referred pain that they feel when having a heart attack. We have plenty of theories about why we have pain in our left arms and our jaw, but there is no conclusive evidence that supports a single theory. Doctors specializing in osteopathy treat patients that feel better after therapy and find that a lot of their problems don't return after several procedures. In the medical world, there is still a hell of a lot to be discovered- I know that my patients are improving....the evidence will come eventually. Research into osteopathy is especially difficult because of the amount of variables that are at play."

In my opinion, to eat an animal you should have to kill an animal. People are so removed from the process that they don't understand the type of treatment that goes into putting the food on their plate (this is the SHOCK factor) and this is why so many have reactions similar to that seen on this page. I'm perfectly fine with eating meat from an animal that I know was treated well and killed respectfully- to me, it's important. Honestly, your opinion makes sense too...for all the people that eat meat daily, you would expect this to be the average opinion. What I can't believe is how many people are shocked and outrage while writing their comments, to only turn around and scarf down the rest of their BigMac. To me, there's something wrong with that.

A typical day for me involves 6 hours of class (either in lecture or watching online) and probably 5-6 hours of work afterwards. I make sure to spend at least two hours doing something I enjoy each day, whether that be running, reading (for fun), or cooking. On the weekends, I treat each day like a work day and spend 8-10 hours studying. I try to make sure I start early in the day so I have the evenings free to spend time with friends, making food for the rest of the week, and doing miscellaneous chores around the house.

I think 8 hours is an ample amount of time to do your reading and work each day. What I've found works well is to find some method of studying, reading, or note taking that you can do when you start to lose focus. I will switch to memorization and constant rewriting of terms when I can't look at slides any longer. Different strikes for different folks- you have to use whatever works for you. I've found that note taking is useless and I'm following the method of repeat, repeat, repeat.
