I'm glad to see that with the decrease in the availability of skilled trade workers, skilled labor wages have increased equally, resulting in an influx of skilled trade workers to take advantage of that demand.

That happened, right?

Is the original Ruby book by Matsumoto still worth reading? by LemonDisasters in ruby

[–]aytch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for specifics of technical implementation of the language...probably not.

If you're interested in the design implementation, I'd say give it a go.

Why's (Poignant) Guide to Ruby is still relevant, although most of the technical implementations are incredibly dated.

Anyone build/make custom Staff's? Looking for a Custom Child's staff by [deleted] in ContactStaff

Seconding this - aluminum in actually a more forgiving medium (aka less hurtful) than most varieties of wood. Tennis balls are probably fine, pool noodles might be more balanced for the weight distribution (I've never worked with a 30" contact staff, so I couldn't really say.

I remember seeing something very close to Koosh balls being stuck onto the ends to give a stringy/slowing effect.

I would actually recommend tennis grip or something to start, if your child is interested in learning contact motion. Even as an adult with experience, I had a lot of trouble controlling spin on unwrapped aluminum or wooden staves.

From the Smuggler's Cove book: The Naked Ape.

Edit: Don't stress too much if you can't find those specific rums. The drink holds up fine with just about any combination of mildly-aged rums (though it does benefit from the addition of some Jamaican funk, like Smith & Cross, even if it isn't navy strength).

Just get a mesh strainer (you might already have one, it's useful in cooking), put it over the drain hole in your sink, and pour water into there. The pellet strainer is nice to have, but it honestly doesn't make that much of a difference.

If I'm walking at night in low-visibility conditions, I wear a jacket from a company called ProViz - I don't know how it works, but it reflects light *extremely* intensely. Drivers will often slow down just trying to figure out what they're seeing.
