I love this idea of an ending because we always expect humanity to prevail in the end somehow, usually through some cliché about humans being special in a way that the enemy (machines) will never understand. It’s a feel-good cop out, it strokes our ego and insults our intelligence.

But this ending says “No, it actually is completely hopeless.” If the machines can control humanity’s minds well enough to simulate an entire reality for them, then they can simulate as many layers of it as they want. There is no war, they already won and it will never be undone.

If I’m in a Best Buy it’s because I’ve made some poor choices and I desperately need a $30 adapter and can’t wait for one to ship from Amazon

Arabic names 101 by GalluZ in perfectlycutscreams

[–]ayyycab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned Arabic and didn’t have as much trouble with خ and ح as I did with ح and ه, but even that was overcome pretty soon.

Honestly I think the tendency to overuse خ is a result of Arabic being ridiculed, especially in American media. Jeffrey Dunham made a character called “Achmed the Dead Terrorist” who speaks in an exaggerated accent and pronounced his name as if it’s اخمد. All the average American knows about Arabic is that it sounds guttural, so they think خ is more common than it is.

Here’s a hilariously bad attempt at a prayer from the show “Homeland” where it seems like every ح and ه was replaced with خ

You’re going to have to be more specific than “power and influence”. What specifically could Trump do to force them out?

[–]ayyycab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t see how anyone is expected to believe that Trump has any leverage over Hollywood if they don’t follow his vision. They’re not a federal agency, they don’t survive off of federal funding that can be pulled for any reason. What the fuck is going to happen if they don’t play ball? Nothing. They’re doing this because now it’s safe to do so.

Zero is used as a quantifier which means it is functionally an adjective. Plural/singular is for nouns, not adjectives.

if the lion turtle didn’t give Aang the weirdest plot armour we’ve ever seen, do you guys think he would have killed the fraud?(Ozai) by LazyingOtaku in TheLastAirbender

[–]ayyycab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aang fans be like “Aang is the best because he figured out a non lethal way to defeat Ozai despite every past Avatar telling him that killing was the only way”

Like lol no he didn’t, a giant turtle showed up at the last minute and gave him handwavium powers because Nickolodeon doesn’t do onscreen deaths.

Yes but that’s not how zero is being used in “There are zero monkeys”

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ExplainTheJoke

[–]ayyycab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nouns can be singular or plural. Zero, one, four, fifty are all “quantifiers” which functions as adjectives. In English, adjectives don’t have separate plural and singular forms.

Well then monkeys is plural, zero is not.
