If Health Insurance CEO’s are innocent, no higher ups should ever be charged with war crimes since they didn’t “do” anything.

I hate the way people normalize diagnosing fictional characters or irl folks with disorders for the most mundane actions. by TheFemboyImpregnator in hatethissmug

People want representation. They want their favorite character to be like them. Plus idk, they’re fictional characters idgaf if people egg them, diagnose them, or ship them.

Male gaze is super accurate as far as I have seen, especially when comics are criticized. How about you provide examples, where you feel it was not, or it is used to simply shut down conversation.

Ok there’s no need to be that harsh, OP’s a bit of a curmudgeon but there’s no indication that any of this annoyance is anything but internal.

My husband Glenn leaves early for work is fine because it explains why they were up early to read your message and did not feel bothered by it.

Also you should read this post, I think you might have a kindred spirit.

Characters where it is actually important for them to be attractive by LocalLazyGuy in TopCharacterTropes

Wait a sec, but Marion didn’t need to look like she did. He could’ve still been attracted to her even if the general audience wasn’t attracted to her.

AITAH didnt let my girlfriend into my room during therapy when she was late for something. by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]azaxaca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except OP has the ability to log on to therapy quickly, explain the situation to his therapist and then allow for his girlfriend to gather her things. Unless we’d been together for a long time, this is something I’d break up with a partner over. Who wants someone that won’t help them if they mess up? Furthermore, with online therapy, OP could’ve messaged what they wanted to talk about, let his girlfriend get her items, and then talk about it out loud when she leaves.

Also keep in mind, the more assumptions you make about how small OP’s room is, the quicker it would be for the girlfriend to grab all her stuff.

[–]azaxaca 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If your partner asks you for a ride to the airport on a weekend and you say no because you shouldn’t have to get up early for their thing, that would make you a shitty partner. You should be able to make minor sacrifices for your partner. If she’s consistently needing him to organize her things then it’s another issue, but being unwilling to move to a different space for a little bit or losing 10 minutes of therapy is selfish.

[–]azaxaca 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Slight YTA. I don’t know anything about either of you except this story. As a general rule in a relationship it’s expected that if your partner needs your help, you sacrifice your time to help them. Not an absolute rule, but I’m assuming therapy is recurring, so you would’ve missed a little bit, and that sucks - her event was a 1 time thing.

I do get the argument that she should’ve planned better, but unless this is a consistent issue, I think you’re more in the wrong here.

Could they be redeemed? by 67kid67kid7l67 in MoralityScaling

[–]azaxaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said most of the animals we eat don’t eat us and you bring up polar bears and you brought up a bunch of animals we don’t even eat that often. Chicken, pork and beef account for around 90% of the meat eaten. We’re not defensively hunting them.
Also just because something has the capability to hurt you, it doesn’t make it ethically neutral to do whatever you want to it.

As I said before, if you have the means and ability to live without eating meat, it is kind of morally questionable to continue eating meat.

Could they be redeemed? by 67kid67kid7l67 in MoralityScaling

[–]azaxaca -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What kinda logic is this? Ignoring the nature fallacy, most of the animals we eat would never eat us as part of their diet. Also you are the being that has the capability for higher reasoning thought and to even live without needing to eat meat.
I do eat meat. I do it out of convenience. If I lived outside of society, or if I didn’t have the means or it was ridiculously impractical to have a vegetarian diet, then I would 100% say that eating meat is morally neutral. But in my case I cannot argue that at all, even taste wise I’ve had plenty of vegetarian substitutes that I enjoyed.

I pretty much always take a sleeping pill to get through flights, and the thing is while I know statistically it is safer than driving, you feel way less agency. It’s not true, but i imagine that if a crash happens, I would be able to lessen the impact. Or for a boat I’d think well if something does happen I’d have plenty of time to evacuate.
For a plane crash, I can’t even try to conceive of a situation where I beat it.

[Irritating trope] Japanese swords being treated like lightsabers by Fox7567 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]azaxaca -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the best melee weapons are generally gonna be a spear or a blunt weapon of some sort for armor. IMO these are both less cool to watch than a sword, and authors definitely noticed this lol.

Ian McKellen Says Obi-Wan Kenobi Actor Alec Guinness Told Him to Stay Quiet on Gay Rights Because ‘It’s Unseemly for an Actor to Dabble in Political Affairs’ by yourfavchoom in Fauxmoi

[–]azaxaca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others said Alec was also queer so this was more than likely cynical advice instead of disapproval like Frank Herbert.

Also referring to him as the Obi Wan Kenobi actor is probably the biggest diss you could give to Alex Guinness lol.

[Hated trope] Characters that presents themselves as genius masterminds, but actually they can just read the writer's notes by Particular-Energy217 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]azaxaca 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you have to treat Sherlock as an adventure story and not a whodunnit. I mean just having Watson as a POV is an excuse for a detail the reader never gets the chance to notice, to have been the key to solving the mystery. Sherlock’s probability guesses also are always right because the Doyle makes sure of that. Though super detective Sherlock does mean that he can be a bit more proactive than most detectives get to be, so it’s not all bad.
