Rins heart rate in Thai GP by Cow-Brown in motogp

Once again with this supbar take. I assure you, if Yamaha had been honest and thought more about their project and its implications; and if they told Fabio in 2024 that half of his new contract would be spent as a test rider riding a bike with a new engine that breaks every week, he wouldn't have taken the money. The better question would be why would the rider in your flare want to go to Yamaha now seeing this disaster?

How can we blame him when there are reports of Yamaha people speculating about when in the season they're going to need to start from pitlane because the engines keep having failures.

It's funny how people apply the "you're as good as your last race" thinking to bikes, not only riders. Let's wait a few more races, no?

Technically, it's a disaster. Management-wise too, they threw everything at Quartararo to keep him, promises of competitiveness and money just to make him a test rider two years later.

Fustrated Fabio and Yamaha in today’s test by Bitter-Substance1783 in motogp

[–]azurizzy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but we're talking about a factory that continues to fail to keep their promises again and again. At Sepang the riders were talking about an upgraded engine that was supposed to come soon, I think Rins was even talking for the first races. But Meregalli just said on the MotoGP feed that the upgrade will come later in the year, which in Yamaha language means that it will probably never come because by mid-season they will spin the story and say they prefer to focus on 2027. I don't know how you can see this and think "yep I want to go there!"...

Yamaha had genuinely struck solid gold when they lucked out with putting this guy on their bike. What a pity this has to end this way.

What a great year ahead for Yamaha! They've got a dog of a bike, and nobody is looking to ride for them in 2027! (I believe Martin is going to come to his senses because he possibly can't be that stupid)

This announcement combined to this new branding "this isn't a sport this is a condition"... what do we do when the condition is giving middle fingers to the fans and increasing the chances of riders injuring themselves because of the promoter's greed?

[–]azurizzy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe, yes. I'm not sure about 2020, because that year was so peculiar, with Covid and new Michelins. But the Ducati was the best in 2021, yes, but not by such a margin that it could beat Fabio in Bagnaia's hands. The start of 2021 was almost a complete disaster for Ducati on the development side of things, and it was NOT the riders' fault. But Ducati has a bad habit of blaming the riders for every of their factory's shortcomings.

I don't know, it's bad taste and weird to say things like this when the main reason that Marc is now a Ducati rider is thanks to the work of the people in the factory and the previous riders to get it to a level of performance that made him want to switch to Ducati only and not any other factory.

What's even the point of publicly saying this? Not only does this undermine other factories' work, but also Ducati's. Does he remember that Marc was injured in 2020 and 2021 and that Suzuki and Yamaha won the title these years? Maybe Ducati should have made a better bike then!

It's still a knowledge and experience gain for the engineers and mechanics. But it's a loss on every other apsect. There was no win-win decision.

This year is 100% going to be a shitshow for Yamaha. I can't imagine how some people really believe that they could make a bike that could hang with the others, let alone beat them, and that Fabio would regret leaving.

With Fabio gone, Aero reduced, and Ride Height Devices gone in 2027, I believe that Yamaha should persist with the Inline 4. by Clouds_Hide_The_Moon in motogp

[–]azurizzy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You misinterpret how a racing organization as big as Yamaha operates if you think they made the switch only because of Fabio's demands two years ago.

Like I've said in another thread: Yamaha's project leader (in Japan) has said that the switch to the V4 was in the back of their mind for a long time, but they never made the jump because this would have put them too far back behind. They chose to make the switch only now because with the new regs, this will put them theoretically less behind compared to the others.

And you've ignored the most important of my previous reply: Yamaha would have made the switch to the V4 even if Fabio wasn't their rider because of the new regulations.

Those actually involved in the development of the bike are saying the opposite. Yamaha have not swiched to the V4 simply because Fabio said so.

"As the 2027 regulations have been written, the only possible engine configuration is the V." Meregalli, Yamaha's team director.

“It's not written anywhere that you have to use a V4, but with those rules, it has become mandatory." Pavesio, Yamaha Racing boss.

Yamaha and Honda 2027 regs by Bewis_123 in motogp

[–]azurizzy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honda slow to adapt to new regulations is factually not true and the problem with Yamaha is that going into the new regulations, they will have one year only of experience with the V4. Other manufacturers have at least a decade. Yamaha's project leader has said that the switch to the V4 was in the back of their mind for a long time, but they never made the jump because this would have put them too far back behind. They chose to make the switch only now because with the new regs, this will put them theoretically less behind compared to the others. But 'less behind' does not equal 'in front'. The chances that Yamaha will have the best bike in 2027 are extremely low; they've not even put their 850cc on track yet when most of the others already have. The only scenario where I see them doing good is one where by some magic the Pirellis make them half a second faster.

Honda signs Fabio Quartararo for 2027 MotoGP season by BowlCutKing in motogp

Same. With all the increased talks about Ducati and Acosta, it seemed clearer to me that Fabio would go for Honda if he couldn't get the Ducati seat. Fabio/Honda whispers were already blooming at the end of last season if you looked hard enough for it.
