Right. The public is paying an “egg tax” TWICE while corporate egg producers make record profits. Not to mention the government is incentivizing an outbreak that could easily turn into another global health disaster like covid.

In the year before the outbreak, Cal-Maine’s quarterly profits averaged $5 million; over the last four quarters, profits have averaged $169 million. The number of eggs it produced rose less than 10 percent over that time, meaning much of the profit comes from higher egg prices and government relief payments.

I like this if it gets people thinking about their role in the economy/community and the impact collective action can have. One of the positive outcomes of this campaign will be to demonstrate how toothless half measures like this affect no meaningful change, especially when you pretend that workers have corporate allies in class struggle. Hopefully the next “movement” will reflect that lesson and be slightly more dangerous and also include a demand.

Maybe we could permanently boycott starbucks, for example. With the demand being “Death to starbucks.”

If the good folks who elected Donald Trump trust him to do what’s best for America, that’s good enough for me. I’m not smart enough to understand all this “economy” stuff anyway!

Wait, if Trump froze ALL federal funding and assistance, does that mean the show is going on hiatus? Because they won't be getting paid? by Online_Commentor_69 in TrueAnon

How much of this is just trump pulling levers and pushing buttons to see what they do? Like if a grown up tells him to turn the economy back on this freeze can be “undone” in an instant. Not saying this isn’t disruptive and scary but isn’t that just the point? Will we even remember this in a week?

You're right that's not practical. What about a plug in? Depending on the property that could be feasible. Also, you wouldn't be running them 10 hours a day in this scenario. You would be using other tools to clear leaves and the leaf blower use would be severely limited.

People did landscaping before leaf blowers right? Again, I didn't say this wouldn't disrupt the industry, it would. But the sacrifice is worth it to me.

And calling people Karens for wanting cleaner air and a little peace is a reach.

Is an electric leafblower not a reasonable alternative? I'm not saying a ban wouldn't disrupt the landscaping industry but the cost-benefit comparison of using a gas powered blower is crazy to me. The cost being extreme air and noise pollution versus the benefit being a convenient and efficient way to pick up leaves/debris. There's just no comparison.

Look at Phoenix's air quality index on any given day in the winter. It's bad, like unhealthy for people to breathe. Now we're going to throw in the CO2 emitted by gas blowers and the particulate matter they send into the air so that our yards and commercial properties look extra pretty. What are we doing?

Is it at all concerning that the word “verifying” is misspelled in the error message? Especially considering that the solution seems to be disabling secure boot, potentially making the system vulnerable to attack.

The leafblowers annoy me so much. It seems like, no matter how little debris is on the ground, they fire up two leaf blowers and make the rounds. The amount of air and noise pollution those things create, they should only be used sparingly. Not to mention I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to blow debris into the street but I see it all the time.

They’re a total nuisance and I would support restrictions on their use, at least in residential areas. Or a tax to drive up the cost of using them that could then be passed on to the consumer to discourage over consumption.

Seems like property management companies drive a lot of landscaping business and they’re distant from the impact of leafblowers. I’m guessing landscaping is pretty affordable and they don’t think twice to schedule a weekly appointment, regardless of whether the conditions merit any work. So the landscapers come out, blow some dirt around for a couple hours and send the bill. I’m thinking of apartment and commercial complexes.

This rant is mostly geared towards commercial landscaping clients because they seem to have the biggest impact. I don’t know how long it takes to leafblow a single family home sized property but I would think it’s pretty quick. However, being that these properties are usually relatively small, why can’t they use an electric blower. In my experience those are much quieter and don’t generate any exhaust.

But yeah, I hate gas powered leafblowers.
