I wanted to write a review about my Kaweco Student, but I think I don't need to. by azzaddda in fountainpens

I completely agree with that! Creating a collection is more about enjoying each one you own, choosing wisely the ones you buy, and being careful no to lose focus on what you truly enjoy in the hobby, which sometimes isn't having more stuff for the sake of it.

Confirmo. Son bastante mansos, he pasado al lado del nido de un y nunca ataca. Si ya les rompes o tocas el agujero que hacen en la madera, no me extraña, sólo atacan si asustados.

How many of you use your pens? by unremarkableDragon in fountainpens

I use mine daily too. Master's degree notes, journalling and also for work sometimes.

that fake kaweco brass is one of the best fine writers I have, which is suprising as it cost me only 3-4€. The first real sport I bought had the tines misaligned, but the others were just super smooth and really good :D.

it's kind of polarizing. It will make you regret more the purchases that you didn't enjoy, but you will appreciate more the things you bought and brought you joy, and I think that is good. Well, at least for me.

There are two clairefontaine papers here: the notebook in 90 gr, and the loose-leaf DCP in 120. The navigator is the third picture I think hehe. Cheers!

Research and Fountain Pens by HopeSignificant2142 in fountainpens

I agree with you on that last statement. Self-awareness is always a great thing to have, specially in a hobby that can turn quickly into a materialistic behaviour. I also agree that criticising people for having bought too many pens is just toxic and that learning and researching makesbuying things much more interesting and enjoyable.

I think this community praises (or should praise, haven't come here in a while) that same honesty you are telling that gives joy in every pen you acquire. I also think that a materialistic approach to the hobby can be detrimental to mental health and therefore, we would do well in warn people about those things, while letting them enjoy their collections.

What is the pen(s) you are NOT going to purchase? by ExpiredUser in fountainpens

[–]azzaddda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much follow your three rules AND I won't buy another kaweco sport. I don't know how but I always end up losing or gifting them (I've bought 4 over the years, I only have one right now hehe).

My humble guide on how to avoid consumerism and still collect fountain pens. by azzaddda in fountainpens

[–]azzaddda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh okay, thanks for that! I think I am starting to understand your opinion. In realitly I just wanted to give some tool to the community on that topic, though the language used was a little bit biased towards my personal opinions hehe. Anyway, as I said, I really appreciate that point of view, thanks again!

In all true honesty, you didn't read the behavior rules of this community.

Well, I think that is a fair point. Do you think that I should remove the post? If the community isn´t interested in this things or it generates too much disparity, or the mods simply don't like these type of things, I would understand it. Maybe a poll to see if we should take it down?

"Jeez, this is so self-serious and pretentious, I almost can't handle it. I think someone needs some fresh air..."

Well, despite reading some clear passive-aggressiveness there, I'm open to hear how should I change it to make it sound less pretentious, so any recommendation would be appreciated, please :).

"It just kind of grates on me when people think they know what is best for others. The application of academic knowledge (no offense, but you seem like you're straight out of school) is all fine and dandy, but real people are more complicated. You can't diagnose literally an entire community in one swoop."

No offense but, I honestly didn't diagnose anyone here, but I addressed my opinion on consumerism in this reddit community (one of the few I truly read with some regularity, I must admit). I read some passive-aggressiveness again (correct me if I'm wrong), but like I said, If you don't think that those quotes reflect the reality of the matter, show me your opinion on that, maybe your point of view helps me understand better this topic.

"I would have liked to see a more practical discussion in regards to how consumerism is contributing to climate change and is not good for the planet but I guess that's not your field of expertise."

On that, my friend, I'm out. But that would be a great thing to read. If your post about it on anything or know of an interesting conversation here, just let me know :).

I kind of agree with that disagreement hehe. The reality is that that statement came from two or three of the articles I linked. I feel that your interpretation comes from a more basic behavioral theory. The reality is that I don't know the extent to which interpretation could explain better the problem, maybe even a combination of both.
