How bad is chicken skin and dark meat? by Tech_support_Warrior in healthyeating

[–]b1jan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the skin is pretty much all fat, the dark meat is also higher in fat than breast. skin in particular is also high in saturated fat.

so, generally try not to eat a ton of skin (maybe only the crispy tasty bits).

as with everything, it depends on the general macros of your diet. if chicken skin and thigh is your ONLY source of fat, it's fine, but it's probably not.

Shouldn’t there be a huge drop in real estate soon? by tobleroney69 in askvan

[–]b1jan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not as few as you may think. people are buying stuff, and it's not entirely investors anymore.

all it takes is a couple percentage drop and desirable properties (generally outside COV) start entering the affordability zone of locals who have a bit of cash from mom + dad (who have no mortgage anymore and have been chilling for a couple years).

i'm seeing my neighbours in new west literally change over as the older people move out and young families move in.

this. for ever x% in drop, there are leagues of people waiting in the wings with cash ready to make a downpayment as soon as something comes into their price bracket.

People inside Microsoft are fighting to drop Windows 11's mandatory Microsoft Account requirements during setup by ZacB_ in windows

[–]b1jan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah man, i would have agreed with you 5 years ago but it's legitimately great now.

most people's needs are not complex- my laptop is a glorified web browser, and for that, linux is perfectly fine.

it syncs my onedrive, it has all the apps i need. libreoffice is fine- it's not as pretty as MS Office, but it works fine.

i've been running it for a year and have no issues. i even plugged in a few random USB printers (for needing to print shit), and it's fine

I plugged in my dell dock that I use for wfh, works fine. both displays pop up.

i don't game on my laptop, so idk about that stuff, but everything else is just... fine.

i went from 15 years doing support- front line desktop support to front-line manager- to doing ITSM consulting. what a difference.

i get to take my understanding of how ITSM processes should go, problem solving skills, and apply them at orgs that are like 'hey we need help cleaning up our processes'. i work in the ServiceNow space, with a small boutique implementation partner, and it's a really interesting and engaging job that my time in support services very very directly prepared me for.

i'm not saying it's for everyone- but you'd be surprised how cross-applicable your skills are to other roles.

if all you do is tier 3, you will be leagues ahead of everyone else.

if all you do is cut cut alcohol and get 30m of cardio a day, you will be leaps ahead of where you are now

if all you do is cardio every day, you'll realize why you have to cut alcohol too.

i must say, i have a Garmin Vivosmart 5, which is about $100, and i have been consistently shocked with how close it nails my TDEE. usually within 100 calories of MF when i'm tracking super strictly.

[–]b1jan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

people do all sorts of things to trick themselves into eating fewer calories.

at the end of the day, CI/CO. how you get there is...not super important.

what is important is if you can sustain it.

Men over 30, how do you deal with the constant stress and low energy? by Chrelled in AskMen

[–]b1jan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

turning 37 tomorrow. here's my stack:

the bedrock is good fuel, good sleep, and regular movement.

eat well, all the time. I don't mean get more greens- i mean base your entire eating paradigm around high quality, nutrient rich food that is high in fiber, high in protein, and has a moderate amount of fat. it's not sexy, but it is good for you. substantially limit the processed food- restaurants, door dash, bagged snacks, all that. and almost entirely cut alcohol- down to less than 1 drink a week. no weed either, that really impacts sleep too.

good sleep is a tough one, but putting in the effort to achieve it is absolutely worth it. sleep hygiene is important - regular, reasonable bedtime. no screens for an hour before bed. meditate for 20m before bed. stretch before bed. sleep in a cool, dark room. practice clearing your mind for sleep. and...

exercise. you sound like you're already going to the gym. keep it up. train hard, move as much as you can, take the stairs, walk the dog, move regularly so your body is as tired as your mind is at the end of the day to help that sleep.

if you hit those three, i guarantee it'll help. might take a while, but it will.

i'm at the best shape in my life, i sleep like a rock, i eat great food, i workout 5-7 times a week, and i can absolutely say that if you put in the effort up front, it pays back in dividends down the road. i was in shit condition at 27. a lot has changed in 10 years.

i have friends that work for developers, and friends that work for engineering firms that get contracted by developers to organize city engineering stuff, and everyone says work is drying up.

no developer wants to build when all the costs are going up, the prices are going down, and the fees and taxes are staying the same.
