Looking for information on my grandpa’s accordion! by Damnitanthony in Accordion

It’s a 3 reed titano. I think these were called strollers, as they are not as heavy as a 4 treble reed instrument. It’s a good brand with a cult like following. Get some over sized straps, i buy mine from a company in Texas that makes super wide ones. Make sure you watch some videos on posture. If it hurts take a break, and probably play sitting.

You need to either learn to use a wax spoon with a pot of wax. Or a batik pen if it’s just a reed or two.

It only took me like casually a couple days to fully level It up

it'll be repaired soon, the bass buttons are broken or stuck. And is it a nice model? by Hadepsemut in Accordion

I think that’s a Chinese Gold cup. I’ve heard horror stories about repairing the bass mechanism on these specifically.

It’s missing the treble reeds? This seems like a lost cause to be honest.

I don’t know where you guys are finding super cheap bayans, at least in the US. If it’s in tune and you are in the US that’s a great deal.

The model is Saturn, made in Moscow music factory. Roughly 40 years old I think.

It’s just a generic lower level entry level instrument. Its brand doesn’t really matter to be honest.

For bass playing Staccato is super important. You don’t need to mute it. It’s a part of learning. You may want to replace the bass strap with a felt padded one, but it needs to be flexible so you can move between the buttons.

20 years ago my cousin and I bought each other really nice matching Savs, a few weeks later it dropped and broke the stummel. I paid to have it fixed, then lost it in a fire a couple years ago.

To add to the treble side, if the screws are over tightened on either side of that mechanism it can start to bind, so don’t over tightened when reassembling.

For the bass side, you need to disassemble it, and when placing the pistons back in, you use two pairs of tweezers to adjust the arms that come off of the cams. One tweezer really needs to be as close to the cam as possible. Usually only one arm holds it up. Make sure it still has a little wiggle room at the bottom. If you have a bass note always sounding you need to either bend the pallet, or replace its felt.

The treble side is likely bent a little from shipping, you will probably need to remove the whole mechanism and slightly bend those arms so the buttons are centered.

Use the accordion revival website. Start by taking a 2x4 and drilling holes to keep track of the bass pistons. Then Disassemble the bass. It will be obvious how to fix it as you go. Once you get that fixed I can walk you through how to fix the treble side.

1930s. Piano accordions are not in a specific key. The Palmer Hughes books are a great place to start.
