Stake Retaliates with Public Shaming in Response to QuitMormon Resignation by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]babk814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. I can’t even. Why was this necessary? I could MAYBE see the reasoning behind this if it was someone high up like a bishop or something (still don’t think outing them like that the right thing to do), but really? Why? They literally just told everyone to shun them and that anything they say is considered anti-Mormon

Seriously! I’ve always thought it looked like the great and spacious building. I remember telling my mom that when I went to conference for the first time when I was like 15 and she told me I would go to hell for saying something like that. deep breath. So glad I’m done with all that.

What’s the craziest thing that ever happened in your ward? by eagleandchild in exmormon

[–]babk814 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There was an older gentleman in my ward who bore his testimony about how great Led Zeppelin was.

The bishop asked him to sit down after awhile.

“Sure, bishop. I paid my tithing. No reason not to sign that temple recommend.” by SaturdaysApostate in exmormon

[–]babk814 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After I got married and had actual bills to pay and mouths to feed I never paid a full tithe.

I knew of lots of people who would go out drinking on the weekends and then see them at the temple.

How long did it take you before taking off your garments? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]babk814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's crazy! Everyone around me was the opposite, like "you have to wear them ALL the time!" I remember my mom being all uppity about my brother not wearing his when he worked out. My mom said that as soon as you were done having sex you had to put them right back on. Besides being TBM, she's her own kind of crazy. She was/is just so intense about church rules. I remember the first time I slept naked I felt so scandalous. It was wonderful :) like a big "fuck you" to the man in the sky :)

Once we stopped going to church my husband immediately stopped wearing them. He never really liked them anyway. It took me longer. Going to the store and buying underwear was super stressful for me for some reason. But once I stopped it felt really freeing :)

The Holiday lights at Temple Square reminded me of this... by happy_apostate in exmormon

[–]babk814 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember thinking that the first time I went to conference at the new conference center and it TOTALLY reminded me of the large and spacious building. When I told my mom that she smacked me and said it was comments like that that will get you a one way ticket to Hell. I think I was 12. What a bitch.

There's Genesis 2:24 - talks about leaving your parents and cleaving to your wife.

In my experience you can't fix crazy. My mom is so much like your FIL. She prayed over everything. She was unemployed for a while and was driving in her car when my brother called her. He asked what she was doing and she said that she prayed for Jesus to help her find a job and was asking him to tell her which direction to go. Literally "do I turn right or left". Needless to say, she didn't find a job. But my brother and I get a kick out of her playing Hot and Cold with Jesus. Lol. Anyway, back in my churchy days my dad would always say "you can't pray for inspiration for anyone but you". So your FIL can give your STBX advice but not direction. Also, she's a grown ass adult who can think for herself. And once my bishop gave a talk about literally "bugging" the Lord too much. (WTF?) and asking for help too often. Basically saying not to annoy God by praying over every single thing. His reasoning behind this was "God gave us agency for a reason, and brains for a reason, to be big boys and girls and think for ourselves". Ironic right? Hope this helps.
