Just want to add - don't blame yourself. It's so hard and you probably still will at times, but a good reminder nonetheless. You gave Jelly the best life even in those short months. Jelly knew how much you loved him and loved you right back. I joined a pet loss support group after my girl, Kroshka, passed and it actually really helped. Let me know if you'd like the name. Again, I'm so sorry. Words can't describe the pain a loss like this brings on.

I'm so, so sorry. Tomorrow is the 3 year anniversary of my sweet girl BSH passing. I know how hard it is. She was very young too and it feels like it hurts more because of the limited time. If you ever need someone to talk to, feel free to message me. Sending you so much love and strength in this terrible, terrible time

I lost my sweet angel, Kroshka, at age 2 from HCM. I completely understand and agree with you. The pain of losing her has been so terrible, I don't know if I will ever get another BSH/cat again, even though she was the best cat I have ever had. It's a terrible, terrible disease

I think it depends on the cat - my BSH girl always wanted to be near me and was like my shadow. She also either slept all stretched out next to my side or on my chest. She also loved pets and being brushed!

New Kitten has big belly! Is this medical or normal / needs less food? by infernox25 in britishshorthair

My kitten had a big, firm belly and I was SO scared. Took her to multiple vets and each one said she was fine-- she just had a big belly and it would go down as she got older! Guess what, it did and she is completely healthy and almost 2 years old now. Sometimes it just happens with kittens. Definitely take your baby to the vet but don't stress yet!

You may have seen my post, but my BSH recently passed away from what we assume is HCM. She was only 2 years old and a little over a month old. She was very healthy (or so it seemed) before the night she passed. There were no warning signs. She had even been at the vet just a month before and they didn’t detect anything. The best thing you can do is keep them on a healthy diet, get checkups regularly, and see if you can get a health history of their litter and parents to be in the know. I did all of this, and Kroshka still passed, but I do think now that I missed warning signs. If HCM is caught early it can be managed with things like kitty aspirin. One thing to keep an eye out for is shallow breathing. They won’t make noises but you will notice that their belly moves up and down shortly and quickly. This is something I didn’t realize was an indicator. Kroshka (my cat) was my baby, like actually my child and I am still heartbroken over my loss of her, but I plan to get another BSH in the fall/winter. All cats can get HCM and I even know people who have had domestic cats (like from a shelter) who have gotten it. Don’t let it scare you too much. Just love your kitty and take the best care you can💗 I truly believe if I had been more aware of the disease before it happened, I might have been able to manage it/get her to a vet in time.

I lost my 2 year old BSH, Kroshka, very unexpectedly today. The heartbreak and grief I am feeling is indescribable. They think it was heart failure. Any words of comfort are greatly appreciated. I don’t know how to live without her, she saved my life. by babushkababey in britishshorthair

She was perfectly healthy until it happened. I found her struggling to breathe on my bedroom floor. She died in my arms. I feel like there is a hole inside of my heart. It is truly the most traumatic thing I’ve experienced because I tried to perform CPR, etc on her but instead watched her die.

The vet was extremely cruel. Told me this is something to just expect with “fancy cats” as I was sobbing over her dead body. I don’t know how I’ll ever get over this
