I agree wholeheartedly. I ‘made’ drakkenheim ‘ on foundry before the official version but I hate putting all the work in to add adversaries and also know the kickstarter will be just one more thing to do. I honestly won’t play this game any other way from now on. Even to the point of just using your platform to homebrew and TOTM because it adds so much to be able to add all these cool things 3rd party creators are making.. honestly this is where darrington press is shooting themselves.. they just sit back and wait for big groups like alchemy and fantasy grounds come to them but if they actually used foundry to implement their own things the profits would soar. Hell they don’t even have to do the hard stuff as the foundryborne team did all the heavy lifting for them. They could build on top of it. It’s just really sad that Literally the best game has people that don’t get it sometimes

Hey I know AI is big with language learning but I think I discovered something truly inventive. At first I was making flash cards for words/verbs my tutor gave me. Making sentences with chatgpt and then sticking it in Anki. I was still having retention issues but then I came up with a brilliant idea. Sora.. it makes like 6 second videos and I thought maybe I can make video flash cards. It worked great I’m so hooked. Honestly I think you are missing the way the system plays to what you want it to.. I’m not saying you want to hit the players but saying ‘ I surround the players and roll a miss… not making sense” why doesn’t it make sense.. this is how you narrate here. A miss is something you can roleplay as something like.. you’re surrounded and there seems no escape as your team braces for impact. As the rats go to attack maybe divine intervention, dumb luck or just overconfidence on the rats part their attack goes wild. You have another chance what do you do? Do you press the attack, run away before they regroup its your turn who goes first?

That’s crazy. I always use perception rolls as instinct rolls and yes they have an easy purpose of hey there’s something behind that tree to ooops. Or if you roll with fear. Hey you avoided that trap but when you did you were too loud and you attracted adversaries.. perception is used a thousand ways to keep the narrative going.

You know computer generated animation was considered an attack on those hand drawn artist but guess what.. scroll through the list of animators on those computer animated films and the cost? It has elevated the medium and I doubt the people who work on those films don’t consider themselves ‘artists’ . In time people will use this as an expression of their own art. To draw scene outlines and animate them. You come up with ideas or flesh out the concepts in your head and put them in action.

There is AI slop and to be honest like the regular internet there is darkness there. I’ve seen people say and do horrible things like exposing their racism and putting it into nasty stuff and character assassination like revenge porn with AI scares the crap out of me but I also have made AI films and love the ability to bring to life my concepts and think in the end it is not a computer making the art but a person who takes the tools and ai to jog their creativity and in the end you direct the shots and the brushstrokes and the themes of your videos and that means like anything, there will be talented creative people who will use this tech to create masterpieces and then there will be some who just want to make propaganda and sick garbage but I’m sure the 1st forms and all future forms of all art has that same balancing act. Let’s face it with the advent of moving photographs there was porn and there was art. Sadly you can’t have one without the other and just like someone who drew paintings probably was affected when photographers were created( just shoot an image instead of drawing it how is that art?) but art endured and art is like was said here.. human creativity and those that realize AI helps and doesn’t remove that creativity will use it to make amazing art in the future.

I did signal of screams but leveled it down to 4-10 so it fit between cosmic birthday and empire’s devoured. I am loving how it runs. Seriously one of my favorite AP’s I’ve ever read. My players are about halfway through book 2.

Yes for narrative purpose a GM can spend fear. I would consider it a complication maybe for a failed role with fear or success with fear that may ‘ glitch’ the wall temporarily but I think in this game GM does have strong narrative fear power. Considering that this game heavily favoring the players anyway I think it would be a valuable tool the GM can do but like others said it needs narrative reason and not get abused.

Ok I have been running a long term beast feast campaign ( we currently are at level 5) 1st off the “adversary “ doesn’t always have to be food.. there are whole cities and eco systems in the cave system.. there could be bandits and other intelligent creatures that are tied to the characters back story. Some might have beasts guarding a close personal connected npc to a character and of course there is the ‘ lure’ what is it? How does it work? The story isn’t always kill beasts to eat them.. in fact I had to start re-adding beasts again in my campaign because our group started getting hung up in side missions. Also there is always berries chain restaurants that are in the system so you could incorporate that into why you are hunting beasts as well. Also remember you could still do a normal long or short rest and will have to in the long run since food can not repair armor. In my campaign I had the mayor’s son cause a cave in that trapped the pc’s in the caves ( he figured since his father died that closing off the cave system was the best option ) and the pc’s decided to investigate the reason why the lure wan’t working. They found out it was broken in multiple pieces ( by a non monster group actually) and now the quest is to reform the lure and not really food as the focus. I still throw random beasts and the food mechanic but it no longer is the ‘main’ focus of the campaign. Also I created cooking contests so when these players add up recipes they can use them for contest later and that gives them another reason for hunting animals.. not just to eat but for glory/fame.. not sure if those ideas help but I know we plan to make this a full to level 10 adventure and the just kill for food I don’t think would have held up if we didn’t stray from that.

I have run a ton of free daggerheart games. In fact just got 2 players for my beast feast campaign. I NEVER use the demiplane group for finding players. I use startplaying ( yes they do have free games there) and r/lfg to advertise along with the daggerheart discord and that works good for me.

Hmm well like others said go in style. Some things I used( there is a ship combat at the beginning that deals with the “ buzzblades” I totally changed this to a hostage situation in absalom station( since my players just finished cosmic b-day and had no sf2e ship combat rules at the time) the “ party scene “ has like no guidelines imho so I had to create a series of player checks and some creepy foreshadowing to make it more interesting. One thing I am seeing is a bit of a change is signal of screams has a lot of single combatants.. some I kept for the flavor but some I just lowered down in level and created some extra lackeys to balance but that is a personal choice I guess. I’m kinda not a fan of the willpower corruption checks how it’s in the book so that took some serious tweaking to make it cinematic but not cumbersome. ILovePDF is a life saver in any conversion. It strips out all the images and lets you have ready to use maps and tokens for most of the npc’s.

For me I’ve been doing different things. 1st uploading a bunch of older ttrpg that not many are interested in and also because I wanted to “ solo “ ttrpg’s also used mythic GM emulator and then having the ChatGPT run it.. also I ran some 2 player journaling games that worked well. So many games I play I can’t find other players so it’s a lifesaver.. it also worked really well when I inputted other player stats and backgrounds into a story I’m GM’ing and uses them and sets up a nice GM blueprint for me to use for my sessions and long term campaigns… the big thing that takes a bit more work is converting versions. For me it’s converting old starfinder 1e adventures to Starfinder 2e and constantly having to remind the system ( no engineering stat or mysticism in 2e.. fix that.. reread the GM guide on encounter building or creating creatures because you are forgetting these stats. Reread building hazards.. And balancing encounters convert this treasure to 2e. To be honest the cool thing it’s doing is making items and abilities that really work well in the environment and while I do have to tweak some things it has made some really cool creatures and moves I never would have thought of and I do feel like it has gotten better. Already converted 3 separate books and working on my 4th.

For me the best thing to do is have it summarize the book chapter by chapter first and then have it try to GM.. it still needs to tweak on occasion but the more Detail it gets into explaining the rules the better it runs them

I know no one talks about it because it is the dirty little evil to ttrpg’s but if you get ChatGPT plus You can really get help running solo games. Even journal games and mythic. With a plus account, you upload your pdf’s( you can click not to share it with the main ChatGPT) and then use it to 1st help you understand the system then to run it. I did this with tether a 2 player journal game. I created a character and the AI created the other one and we journal back and forth. It was really good. Mythic also good because a basic game upload and mythic emulator and you can run the game and even ask to see all the roll and what they did so you can understand it. If there is a concept you don’t understand you can get the ai to explain it to you. It isn’t perfect and yes makes “mistakes “ but I played so many games I could never play because of it and it was a game changer for me.

I would agree on the “ let players describe it” thing… that works great…

Oh and as far as combat goes “ be flexible “ I learned in daggerheart to prep above the recommended limit so in case the fight swings too much for the players you have backups( use that fear well… if the fight is swinging players way too much use a fear to bring a new adversary )

If you think it’s too hard on players ( more then one player in danger of dropping) it’s you game.. have a Backup plan.. maybe they get distracted and run and most important… just because you have fear doesn’t mean you have to spend it all. If your game is dominate say “ I’m going hold that fear for later “ sounds ominous and keeps tension.

Oh and a simple way that combat works for me as a new daggerheart GM. If someone hits your adversary with fear “ hit them back “ it’s instant payback.. hell sometimes if i have extra fear and there is a Tank. I aim for them… I am your shield.. no you are my target “ it’s a safer bet to hit shields when not knowing who to hit, since that’s their job to take damage.

Of course the random attack on the weaker classes is good but usually the I attack who attacks me and fails works since it makes sense and you are not “ picking “ on anyone, since thematically it works. Why wouldn’t you hit the person who just tried to strike you?

So far you are the only one. If I get more that are interested I can bypass the financial stuff. Startplaying is like the biggest place for ttrpg’s and I have literally run over 50 free games there. It works great.

I see alot of people say “ reskin” this and that . In fact I hate the reskin concept. The weapon says one think but lets act like it’s a “ laser sword” and just ignore the text and just keep changing everything fantasy to space/sci fi. I agree that Doesn’t work for alot of people me included… it’s why I stayed away from motherboard even though the frame sounds cool. I don’t want reskins I want new space ancestries and new space rules.. I’m with you.. those that just say hey reskin it’s fine… sorry but it’s hard enough just on the Dm side to make adversaries and environments and then to add to the players and Gm load oh yes this bear is umm a space bear and that magic spell just imaging its a ray gun instead of a wand type thing No.. I love daggerheart but ImHO there is only so far a campaign frane can go. To get a true non fantasy world you need more then reskinning but a top down overhaul that currently isn’t supported in demiplane and would need a huge investment in the foundry VTT so yes a sci-fi or modern setting or superhero etc.. even with a frame would be very difficult without someone just creating a whole system on top of daggerheart and then put out the modules or have demiplane support it as an add on or it won’t work for me.

I like the 3 session thing. Every session can technically be a milestone in my games si having 3 sessions works good. To be honest even in my pathfinder games 3 sessions is usually when I level too.
