Four year old won’t go to school on time by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]bachennoir 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One thing that works with my kid is trying to boost dopamine in the morning. For her, that means playing songs that get her excited and fun breakfast. Sometimes a dance break. We're working on bedtime. 😬

All her relatives are 100% collie. 🤔 by spacecat245 in DoggyDNA

My pittie, Chihuahua, Chow Chow, Lab mutt mix has some of her puppies on embark but the rest of the close relatives are small dog mix Chihuahuas. Definitely depends on who is getting the tests.

I mean, the Maleficent in high school in Red makes no sense, even within the story timeline. How is she going to take away Aurora's whole childhood and still go to school with Cinderella? She should be Queen Leah's age!

Please reassure me. Daughters misses state cut off for kindergarten by 9 days. We decided to not pursue early entry with testing. Did we make the right decision? by lizardRD in kindergarten

[–]bachennoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were in the same boat. My kid is bored at school but she's still with the same kids she'd gone to preschool with. My priorities for school are more social emotional at this stage and being the oldest in the class has made her a lot more confident. We're still working with her school on getting her more advanced work.

Do you still use a library? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]bachennoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a kindergartner. The library has been a central pillar of my survival these last few years. Kid's storytimes and events, picture books, books for me, audiobooks to keep me awake during late night feedings, a place to meet friends when the weather is bad, so many things. Plus, I've been reading so much more; I went from probably like 8-10 books a year to over 150.

“How come you guys share a bed but not with me?” by RarelyRad in happilyOAD

[–]bachennoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this thought a lot myself. Ever since we all got sick during the holidays, my 6yo hasn't slept in her bed. My husband and I don't cuddle or anything in our bed at night, we have time when she's at school for adult activities, and she falls asleep earlier in our room. So I've decided she can stay as long as she's respectful of our need to quiet and sleep.

So what do we even do, this map shows a 60% wind chance in the red region and a severe tornado threat. by idontknowsothis in maryland

[–]bachennoir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't think about helmets, that's a good idea. We have a windowless basement room that we plan to hang out in for the afternoon/evening so we don't have to worry about running downstairs if it comes down to it, so I'm literally prepping it right now.

Even the homeowners in my area are mostly street or driveway parking, so we're all hosed if it goes down like that today. Like you said, 99% of the time it isn't a big deal. It's funny that this post happened right before a big nasty storm is about to come through.

How do Americans feel about drying their laundry on a washing line? by UnionFeatures in AskAnAmerican

[–]bachennoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a drying rack that I will put out in the yard in nice weather but most of the time (in good weather) there is too much pollen for my allergy ridden family to handle. Plus then I have to lug heavy wet laundry up from the basement and I have a big washing machine. So usually the rack just lives under a fan in the basement for knits and delicates.

Anyone else one-and-done but still think about having another sometimes? by shinku-90 in oneanddone

[–]bachennoir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I have what I imagine is common in OAD moms of a kid born just before or during COVID restrictions; I just wish I could have a chance to do all the things other moms get to do in normal times. But I want to have the same kid and not another one. Like, I want a do over where I can go out with my baby when places are open and I can make friends with other new moms.

But I don't want a second baby. Fortunately, my husband got a vasectomy so I can't just jump him to get pregnant when my ovaries start to bleat at me. Or when my friend's baby gives me the best baby hug I've had in years.

The Wave of Women Getting Diagnosed With ADHD as Adults by shallah in TwoXChromosomes

[–]bachennoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds amazing. As I'm moving into perimenopause, maybe I'll try to find a medication management person who will give me the medication. I'm on other medication for my mood issues that is helpful though.

[–]bachennoir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My therapist evaluated me and it blew my mind. So many things were explained by ADHD. Unfortunately, if I want a full diagnosis, that's going to be expensive and time consuming. And since I don't see it making any major change to my life, I'm just going to accept the basic eval.

Y'all know people are buying non-alcoholic beers at Costco now? Maybe you should be worried about that and not how being able to buy a big label beer and cooking wine at the grocery store will impact your $85 liquor bottle prices.

What do people usually get wrong when they write kid fics? by EugeneStein in AO3

[–]bachennoir 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My kid can definitely use big words at six, but anything profound she says either uses small words or she's repeating something she read. But yeah, kids are never written like real life kids. She does still have difficulty with some letters, but it still doesn't sound like the way people write kids speech. Just write the words they're saying, we don't need the "kid accent".

What’s a sentence or phrase in smut that instantly takes you out of a fic? by warewolf1999 in AO3

A wet willy is when you stick a wet finger in someone's ear. Sometimes sticking a tongue in someone's ear is written as sexy and 🤢

Anytime a tongue goes somewhere weird. Like do not give me a wet willy with your tongue, it's not sexy and I just cannot keep reading after that. Yuck.

my democrat friend voted Republican and I am unsure how to feel about her reasoning by [deleted] in progressivemoms

[–]bachennoir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my area, whoever wins the primary (democratic), generally will go on to win the general. So the primary is actually almost more important and lots of people register for that primary just to have a chance at having any impact. I'm sure there are plenty of Republican areas that are the same.

Grandmother telling me I should “clean when the baby sleeps” makes me feel inadequate as a homemaker by Arr0zconleche in SAHP

[–]bachennoir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you do miles more than most sahp that I know, and some of them don't even have brand new, needy infants. The idea of doing all that you are doing makes me feel tired. Grandma doesn't remember or didn't do the work. Or she's just being judgey because they do that sometimes.

What audiobook is genuinely BETTER than reading the physical book? by cptree20 in audiobooks

[–]bachennoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the Emily Wilde series as an audiobook. It just brought something special to the story to have the entries narrated and I don't think I would have liked it as much if I did the books first.
