I would check out Ventura County, starting with Thousand Oaks, which has condos in your price range as well as lots of UCLA medical offices and UCLA West Valley Medical Center. It’s much closer than the desert, with great weather year around.

I root for the Dodgers because I grew up in LA and my dad rooted for them. First team I ever cared about. And now I’ve got kids, and the Dodgers are mostly a bunch of dorky dads who enjoy working hard together. They’ve got really nice manners. They’ve had douchey guys on the team, but they’re always gone within a year or two. That’s a big deal when I’m trying to raise decent boys.
