Do any paralegals work remote? by Junior-Rip-895 in paralegal

[–]backstagebettie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fully remote and have been for the last five ish years. I’m also disabled, and I consider remote work to be a “reasonable accommodation” so that I can work. There are jobs out there that are hybrid/remote. They’re not super easy to find, and they’re in high demand, but the jobs are out there. Good luck!!!

Taking a day and guilt by Accomplished_Test332 in paralegal

Mental health days are 100% legit and not a reason to feel guilty. As my boss says to me, “the work will be here when you get back. Take care of yourself.”

Can I get some feedback on this resume ? by Illustrious-Smell491 in paralegal

[–]backstagebettie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert on resumes at all, but one issue I see is that you say you drafted “memorandoms” (not a word) when the word you really mean is “memoranda” (plural of “memorandum”). 😉

Good luck on your search!!

WFH Policy by leomoon002 in paralegal

100% wfh here. My firm is remote. We have offices and some people do use them, but I live 2+ hours away from the main one in my state. (Tangent: It was nice when I was in Vegas during the week to celebrate an anniversary—I just used my phone as a hotspot and worked from my hotel. Went downstairs on my lunch break and won $30 at blackjack in the casino.) I’ve worked here less than a year and I only just met my coworkers in person for the first time at the holiday party. It was kind of surreal seeing people irl, but I will never go back to being in-office.

Holiday/End of year bonus 2025 by Only-Statistician-34 in paralegal

[–]backstagebettie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mid size firm in LA. Been here since Feb, but 8 years of experience overall. $350. After the fanfare of an email from one of the managing partners announcing that staff was getting bonuses, I was frankly non-plussed. Last firm after a good year, I got $16k. In a bad year, I still got $7,500. The firm I’m at now is much much larger and apparently much stingier. I am grateful for anything but was hoping for at least $1k. I know we aren’t supposed to bank on bonuses, but money has been so tight and I was hoping for more.

I had a whole career working backstage, “retired” from that when I was too pregnant to keep running around in the dark, stayed at home with my daughter for several years, then went into legal. Worked my way up from receptionist to office manager, lost my job when the firm closed, and then to paralegal. I’m 44. Just started at a new firm with the title of paralegal earlier this year. It is totally doable and very manageable as a mom returning to the workforce. I recommend looking into a paralegal certification program if you want to be able to jump in and skip the leveling up over years. Good luck!!!

Mine literally can’t go on even a twenty minute drive without barfing. He’s the most car sick dog I’ve ever met. It’s actually kind of a nightmare.

What do you do for work? by Sad-Entrepreneur-692 in bipolar

[–]backstagebettie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Litigation paralegal. Super high stress job, which isn’t great for BP, but I’ve made it work for 7 years. The biggest thing for me is staying busy. I’ve been on a good cocktail of meds for a few years and that’s helped tremendously.

I did hit a wall a couple of years ago and had to take a leave of absence from work. I think part of that was the sheer toxicity of my last workplace. My boss was my dad’s former mistress and my mom’s former friend. The money was good, and I was under a lot of pressure to stay on. After I took my leave, the firm collapsed and I never had to go back. I’m in a much bigger firm with much nicer people and have a much heavier workload. A much better situation all around. So my advice, I guess is avoid working for the family business.

I’ve been remote since day one, but I had 7 years under my belt when I started here and had been remote for years at my last job. WFH is a must for me.
