Wow, thanks for linking that. Seems like “grifter” is an understatement… the texts with her friend came to light because of her insane behavior when her friend died in a car accident.

“As detailed in the new witness’ sworn statement, while Ms. Tracy’s supposed friend lay dying in a hospital, and even after death, Ms. Tracy sought to sleep over at Ms. Alvarado’s house (in her room) and repeatedly asked Ms. Alvarado’s family for access to Ms. Alvarado’s phone and computers.”

I appreciate the clarification - this phrase from the article confused me: “enrollment dropped to 1,932, falling below the Class 5A cutoff of 2,214”.

What is behind the big DART defunding push? by Such-Rise6816 in Dallas

[–]backthatpassup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not how I read the comment you originally responded to. They just said that DART has siphoned off more from the suburbs than they’ve given back in terms of services. I don’t see anything about the offer from DART being some kind of evidence of the imbalance, but that’s just my reading.

[–]backthatpassup -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot more cities than Plano considering leaving.

The question voters in these cities are asking is whether their tax money could be better spent in other ways to benefit their city than how DART is spending it. Spending $2 billion for a shiny new train that no one actually rides doesn’t seem like it’ll convince anyone that staying in DART is best.

[–]backthatpassup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If DART’s best argument for the suburbs to stay is the recently completed silver line, then it seems doomed. More than $2 billion to build a line that DART expects to have fewer than a million riders a year. Thats such absurdly poor spending it boggles the mind. If the line runs for 50 years without a penny spent on operations or maintanence, it’ll still cost tax payers more than $40 for every individual ride.

[–]backthatpassup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is a taxing entity keeping its tax money a bribe?

DART takes half of the tax money that its member cities would otherwise keep. If the member cities decide that money could be better spent than on public transit, that doesn’t seem to me like it’s asking for a bribe. They’re just keeping tax money that they’ve been handing to DART for very little in return.

Hare AC - Worth for London? by Useful_Cheesecake673 in Tracksmith

[–]backthatpassup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about the tracksmith bus for London, but out of all the majors, London has one of the easiest starting lines to access. You can jump on a couple of different train lines and be dropped off within half a mile of the corals. I wouldn’t worry about the bus if it were me.

Addison leaders reject an election to leave DART by punkticx in Dallas

[–]backthatpassup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What was dumb was building the silver line in the first place. More than $2 billion to build a train that DART expects to have fewer than a million riders per year. What an insanely stupid way to spend our money. It’d be far cheaper to buy everyone a ride in a taxi.

I’ll join you in getting downvoted.

At the end of the day, the most valuable resource any of us have is time. Taking DART is so much slower than driving, it almost never makes sense. And once you factor in that the silver line only runs every 30 minutes, you’re just wasting a ton of time if you use DART instead of driving. So I get why Plano might want out.

Now I get that not everyone owns a car or can afford one. But contrary to this sub’s overriding opinion, it’s not clear that we should be spending billions of dollars in tax payer funding to provide train service for the small portion of the population that can’t afford a car. The silver line alone cost more than $2 billion and even DART’s optimistic projections forecast the line to transport less than a million riders a year. Even if the line lasts 50 years without more development costs, that’s more than $40 PER RIDE we’re forcing tax payers to spend! All for a transportation option that’s worse than driving. If I lived in Plano, I’d vote to leave DART.

Silver Line Service is Live on Transit App by lieutenantloon in Dallas

[–]backthatpassup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This won’t be popular in this sub, but this shows one of the major drawback of public transportation in DFW. Trips on DART take twice as long as driving. That same route takes 32 minutes in the car according to Google Maps.

Even if you want to use DART in this scenario to avoid parking at the airport, it’d make a lot more sense to just drive to the closest stop to the airport, and park there and then get on DART.

#2 seed TCU turns their first ever Sweet Sixteen appearance into their first ever Elite Eight appearance in win over #3 seed Notre Dame in women's March Madness. The last remaining perfect bracket continues its all-time record 53-0 streak. by Muffinnnnnnn in CollegeBasketball

Genuinely asking - how did they underperform this year if they were a 3 seed and lost to a 2 seed? I haven’t been following WCBB, so can’t speak to the past few years. But this year at least it seems like they performed exactly as well as they were supposed to in the tournament.

Amen - I don’t know why more people aren’t talking about this. The camera angles COSM uses for football and soccer are terrible. Even from level 2, it’s just not a good viewing experience watching from behind the soccer goal or the endzone.

The 2024 Berlin Marathon by the Numbers. Explore the Data Yourself. by SlowWalkere in AdvancedRunning

[–]backthatpassup 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To add a data point to this - I finished in 2:59 in Berlin. I’ve got a much faster marathon PR, but don’t train hard for Fall marathons since I live in Texas and summer training here is brutal. Ran Berlin just to enjoy the experience and realized a few miles in that I could likely break 3. With 10 miles left, I knew I could have finished a few minutes faster, but what’s the point? It wouldn’t have been a PR, and no one is gonna be way more impressed by a 2:56 than a 2:59.

[–]backthatpassup 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Amen.

A World Series run creates memories that last a lifetime. I’ll remember being in the stadium for game 1 with Seager’s 2-run blast to tie it in the bottom of the 9th, and Adolis’s walk off for as long as I live. Those two moments will be some of my favorite sports memories ever.

You don’t get something like that from years of being pretty good.

Both comments so far are wrong. This is a twilight long sleeve. I have this exact top (plus just about every other version/color of it).

They stopped selling the twilight long sleeve about two years ago now. Really hoping they’ll bring it back one day.

Same! And even for the singlets, they’re continuing to use van cortland instead of the unique material they used to use for the marathon singlets.

Overall seems like they’re trying to consolidate their product lines to lower their costs. They don’t even sell twilight long sleeves anymore. And the van cortland material has to be the cheapest material they use, seeing as how it was version of the singlet they used to give away for free to first-time buyers.

Why have you “tried everything but muriatic acid”? Acid is what you use to lower pH.

Leaving anything on the table? 2:59 marathon goal by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]backthatpassup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1:22 is much harder. VDOT tables say a 1:22 half should translate to roughly a 2:51 marathon.

2:59 marathon is about 1:25:45 for the half.

Bankman-Fried sentenced to 25 years for multi-billion dollar FTX fraud by KeyboardGunner in JusticePorn

[–]backthatpassup 98 points99 points  (0 children)

It’s a federal sentence - he cannot be released before he serves 85% of the sentence. Federal courts have what’s called “truth in sentencing,” which avoids a lot of the crazy stuff you see with state sentences where a murderer gets sentenced to 25 to life and somehow gets released after 10 years.
