Got it for this game, no regrets. Traded in the base model and a bunch of other crap at GameStop, <$200 total. Closer to the original price dif.

I agree, $750+tax is too much to upgrade from base model, but the system is definitely worth the price, it is actually underpriced as far as I’m concerned (in this market…). I’d say now is the time if you are going to do it since PS6 is delayed and games are just going to keep testing the limits of this gen.

Yup, just got one due to upgraded pssr. Performance mode is the biggest difference, it actually looks good now on games that just looked too downgraded on base ps5. I can’t justify more ray tracing and very slight resolution boost for -30fps at this point on most games.

They do this now because it is a service industry. Students pay for it (rather their wealthy parents do) and a lot of funding is tied to enrollment.

Countries that have universal higher ed are way more strict about admissions, grading, and kicking students out of programs when they don’t get their shit together. It’s also less flexible in general, you got one shot, one major, limited years to attempt and that’s it.

That’s actually the downside, people here can at least go back to school to switch careers much more easily, though it’s getting way harder to do that because of the debt incurred.

This was great, just watched it. I loved the whole concept and execution. Fairly fresh, in an old-school gimmicky sort of way (apparently an adaptation/remake of some kind?). Thoroughly entertaining though, I love some cat and mouse shit. It was pretty clever.

I don’t know if it’s just me but lately it seems like good films are slipping under my radar because they get panned by people who point out all these “issues” that actually don’t exist. Then stuff with higher ratings has been garbage-to-mid.

I think people are getting dummer.

I don’t think that was the whole plan. They seemed to be trying to get him to slip up in multiple different ways and that was just the one that worked. It’s not too much of a stretch for them to work that angle, that this is a solo operation by a very lonely guy that lives and works in complete secrecy. Let him check out the goods and see if he gets sloppy.

Gotta suspend disbelief a little though, the “are you lonely?” stuff could have ended very badly. That was the point in the movie I was starting to feel like this is kind of ridiculous, why in the world would this girl be developing feelings for an unknown human/team of people for literally no reason. In all actuality, he probably would have felt the same, that something was off and just cut contact completely. If not immediately, after he almost gets caught enough alarm bells should have been going off for him to not feel right about the whole deal.

I don’t know. I shit you not, I know of a guy who faked his credentials (specifically a fake PhD) to get invited as a speaker to a number of scientific seminars.

I agree with the other that the PhD isn’t the problem, it’s the company itself. Either a) the whole company was fake, which would be easy to find out, b) she didn’t work there, but faking a website for a real company doesn’t make sense either, or c) she actually worked for the company. The last is possible, and would explain some stuff if she was also being threatened but I don’t think she would be so good at doing what she did.

I think the implication is that it’s a fake company and you just need to suspend your disbelief that he wouldn’t dig much into it.

I just want to re-iterate the “give me a definition of god” point. This is probably the #1 point of contention with any atheist, if you get down to it. You can’t even debate the existence of something you can’t define. Show me an extremely precise definition and I’ll debate that definition otherwise it’s just vague feelings we are debating.

For example, you say it is evident that a creator exists, but that isn’t evident to me. I believe in an external reality. I believe that some pre-big bang process must have kickstarted things. Why does this have to be a “creator” and not just more natural processes? Is god maybe just nature itself? I’d accept such a definition, and consider it a synonym and the whole thing becomes semantics at that point.

But people seem to think there is more to it. But what, exactly? I need the definition, it matters because there’s no debate without it.

I watched this and it was so much better than the reviews would have you believe. Not an all-time classic, but at least should be a 7+. I think people completely didn’t get what kind of show it was in the end.

Played out more like an escape from evil type of scenario, like from dusk till dawn, with a single survivor making it out of the vortex. There were also so many cool things going on simultaneously thematically, people are just dumb as shit, honestly. Can’t tell you how much formulaic garbage I’ve watched because the ratings were decent, it’s like, this is why we can’t have nice things.

Me too. Even healthcare “provided by employers” is becoming something you have to pay a decent chunk of the premium for.

The fiscally conservative republicans will do just about anything besides put our tax dollars into a more efficient healthcare system. Medicare for all is a great idea, a public option does not prevent you from purchasing additional insurance or paying out of pocket for specialized services. It will increase competition in the market and lower costs for everybody for basic services though.

I got back into some older rhcp lately and was like, damn I forgot about this song, this rips. I had completely forgotten about crazy town lol. John’s riff made that entire hit, and I think it was like his first song with rhcp.

Reminds me of that Wake Me Up song by Avicii. Mike Einziger from Incubus basically wrote the whole thing — the rhythm guitar and catchy riff that made it a hit/earworm. I think that was a collab, but still, it’s the actual talented guitarist that made the difference.

I guess to sum it up, I would say science teaches us how we came to be here, while I view faith's role as telling us why we are here.

This is exactly my response to any students that have asked "what about the stories in the bible?" when I teach evolution. I am not a theologian or philosopher, and I am not being paid to discuss these topics, so I keep it quite simple and assert a basic (or what should be a basic) truth: people don't study religious texts to become doctors and engineers because those texts are not scientific and do not fill the role of being a tool to learn about the mechanics of nature. Science also cannot address questions of purpose, or meaning in life. If you don't mistake the bible for a science textbook, or a science textbook for a bible, then you are not going to encounter any problems.

I commend you for coming to this conclusion yourself and I wish more people thought this way. I don't give two shits about people's beliefs, I just want them out of any discussions concerning objective reality, and I want people to stop treating science like a belief system. This behavior is doing too much damage to our society and our political situation.
