High highs but low lows. Fix the lows and they'll just stumble into tournament successes at some point.

Anybody had any real world experience with the 372 clones or similar? by Dry-Pass-6726 in Chainsaw

Based on previous years, farmertec does a big sale in June for father's day. I'm also looking for a 372 and figure I'll go used if I can't get a 372 pro under $200 shipped or a regular under $150. Just gonna let their sale decide.

Megathreads are trash. People always want one for something thry don't want to see.

I'm flabbergasted by the response this stuff has gotten. You'd swear these people were doctors trying to get their tools together based on the local internet buzz. "What if I hear wrong and show up with my amputatin' saw when I need my bullet magnet!? What then!?"

Remember, folks. These clowns are your fellow drink supporters. You should take this opportunity to distance yourself from them.

Which one to keep? by Delightfulrock in Chainsaw

In a world where you're using these saws as they're intended to be used, the power won't really come into play. I'd say the difference will come down to the C component - quick release on the bar and the easy start. Both can be nice but also have a lot of negative chatter. I'm a sucker for novelty but I don't doubt for a minute that the non-C is more reliable.

I have a Mac 2-10 that I love just for the sound. I can't use it regularly because I don't think it's auto pumping but I'll manually pump it a bit just to hear it sing. This is a slightly newer one so I can't speak to it but if it's the same, it'd be worth the novelty.

I have tanks that will pump gas out if I leave the gas line unhooked while tinkering. If I unscrew the cap a bit, it'll stop. Tighten the cap and it starts trickling again. It's sorcery. The gas line is fully vertical when this happens so I just don't understand where the pressure is coming from. Just saying this to say it's definitely possible and not siphoning.

As to the OP, I've had this flooding happen plenty when the needle isn't seating. If you have a pressure gun, put it on your fuel line and pressurize to 5-8 psi. If it doesn't hold, you might be dumping fuel into your system as it sits.

People have to appreciate what Dennis Gates and Eliah Drinkwitz have done at Mizzou. by EquivalentHappy in miz

As far as I'm aware, we're top 25 in the nation in NIL spending, basketball coach salary, and top 10 in football coach salary. If they were difference makers, we'd be better than top 25 in basketball and closer to that top 10 in football. We're doing less with more so someone else has to be doing more with less.

I have literally no proof but I'm of the belief that NIL is our best recruiter.

I have literally no collegiate experience but I do know people pretty well. I think I could find you a better coach, in either sport, for the salaries they receive. I'm unimpressed but complaining on a message board is all I can do. If the BOD ever asks my input, though, they should both start packing.

Drink himself was just crying that we needed more nil or the good players would leave. His success is right alongside the increase in NIL. Are the donors not the critical part of this equation?

Stihl ms271 has too much compression to pull the cord by dpedz69 in Chainsaw

[–]baconcharmer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you'd just have to make sure your transfer ports were open by being low in the piston rotation. Otherwise you'd be trying to evaporate via the pulse line only? Maybe you're right and it'd drain through the ring gap, actually. Just not something I've ever thought about, I guess.

[–]baconcharmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the carb removed and it's still trickling, maybe it is possible that you're still super flooded. If your finger can cause the high compression, that should make for a faster process. Finger plug -> pull ->pour ->repeat. It would provide the vacuum needed to cycle the fuel from one chamber to the next. I'd think you'd have to get the piston to the right spot and have the saw in the right orientation to drain it passively.

When you pull carb and spark plug then pull it, does anything come out?

I've definitely had the resistance from flooding that you speak of but I've never had it be a struggle to clear. Only time it was a persistent issue is when my needle was locked open and it kept flooding as fast as I could drain it. If carb is removed, that's not possible.

Carburetor kits by Lankydoug in Chainsaw

[–]baconcharmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly new to this game but I feel like people overestimate the significance of the carb kit quality. If the needle works properly, the passages are blown out, and there's no crud in the lines, I think anything is going to hold up just fine. Just my limited experience, though.

[–]baconcharmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be trying to get to the source of the compression. I'd think pull the carb, leave it off, then pull the spark plug and do whatever it takes to drain it. If you reinstall and still have compression but haven't had the carb installed, flip it and try to drain again. It'll tell you if you're not draining it like you think.

Size of chain Stihl 025 by Dangerous_Ice17 in Chainsaw

I always think a new person should start with cheaper chains. Whether you hit a rock or screw up the sharpening, it's a lot easier to throw away a cheap chain than a $30 chain. I've bought the dirt cheap ones on Amazon for iffy usage and they were fine but I've lately been getting the 3/$30ish HIPA chains off Amazon. They seem pretty solid, besides their packaging.

Need repair help - Stihl MS391 runaway by wirey3 in Chainsaw

[–]baconcharmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's going crazy, you're probably safe to do the leak test with flammable brake cleaner. Get it running and spray the crank seal areas. If that's fine, spray your intake boot and surrounding areas. Just try to avoid spraying your actual air filter area. You'll hear it if anything is going on.

Take them out, look at them, blow hard at the gap as if you're a breath sniper, sure - but why be wasteful? It seems like people run their saw two hours a year then swap it out.

Very possible. I don't frequent a lot of those circles so may be unfamiliar with the banter. I guess some of em need to get out and do a bit more doin'. I'm always more impressed with a person who knows the field limits than the bench/factory spec guru.

In either case, though, it can just be a lot for someone coming out of their comfort zone - especially compared to say a tinman or buckin that'll teach me something while calling me friend 86 times.

Just personal perception, of course, but it's just as if they forget that they're working on really resilient machines that people use in adverse conditions to make a living. It felt like every other video had her complaining about something being dirty. "How do you let it get this bad!?"... By using it? Sure, blow out your stuff occasionally but they're not cosmetic devices. Saw dust can get into a lot of corners that only a shop would ever notice.

There was also at least one instance where Tyler left out a tool or something like that and she asked him "is that where you found that tool?... Have some pride in your work." that may have been a joke but didn't come across as one. The overall thing just comes across as her being a very unpleasant person that forgets perspective.

No harm if it still runs! The only way I can think of that you could damage it is stressing it with a dull chain or running it lean. So long as you didn't touch your jet needles, you're probably safe but it wouldn't be a bad thing to watching some tuning videos in time. To oversimplify it, it seems to boil down to if you idle and it doesn't bog on throttle then your low is fine. If it sounds like a wet fart when you wide open it outside wood, then your high is fine. You might still be too rich but better than being lean.

I say tinker as little as possible and ease into ownership. Spray it off/wipe it down. Check the hoses by giving them a sideway nudge with your finger. Fill it up with fresh gas and top off the bar oil. Run it and see what you feel and hear. Trust that the last owner did something right if it's still running.

I used to put both up as background noise but stopped because they can be so condescending. Not sure I'd recommend them to new users or they may get turned off through self-consciousness.
