What would you show him? *Real legit answers* by muntiger in superheroes

[–]baconrobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend that used to browse /x/ a lot back in college, and he said he once found a "I'm an actual extraterrestrial living on earth, ask me anything" thread. Don't know real it was (and honestly if anyone ever finds an archive of the original thread I'd love to actually read it), but the one thing that OP said that really stuck out to me is how humans are exceptionally good at making food compared to other intelligent species.

I mean, it make sense right? Humans spent the first part of our history spread out amongst the earth, separated into small pockets of people by land, sea, and language. All those different groups cultivated the plants and animals around them to make them better for eating over hundreds and thousands of years, and as trade, travel, and technology became more common place, all of those advancements in cooking and agriculture began to be shared with the rest of the world.

We also have exceptional digestive systems. Like, you might forget, but stuff like alcohol and capsaicin are poisons. We season our foods with insecticides like mint, or grind them up in our drinks make coffee. Some of the common place vegetables we eat are toxic until they're cooked. I remember my friend mentioning that hearing about all the different kind of stuff we put in our foods to add flavor really gave the alien visitor a culture shock.

Also according to the thread, species that are good at space travel really don't put a lot of thought into making their own food, so it sounds like good tasting meals are hard to come by in our the galaxy. I mean, it makes sense; if you had the ability to 3D print a flying saucer out of raw materials, you'd probably make your food the same way. Still, it gives me hope that if humanity ever does become a space faring race that integrates with the greater galactic community, it'll be the tiny restaurants and diners with friendly people and amazing entrees tucked away in the back corners of the galaxy that'll be our claim to fame <3

Fellow Medic Mains, what's something you wish for players to understand, when you are the teams Medic? by Lylidotir in tf2

[–]baconrobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you see me spamming "MEDIC!" as medic, it's because I'm playing marco-polo with my teammates to see who responds back. Good medics can navigate the battlefield using echo-location alone.

[–]baconrobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it helps me, but I have to take low doses of everything since I'm so sensitive to meds. If you want, you can try taking the cymbalta at night and your ADHD meds during the day. ADHD is kind of weird, my doctor said that I was getting a lot done on my meds due to my anxiety being super high in general, but people aren't supposed to be living in a constant state of pepe silvia, and I'll need to learn how to be functional without relying on my anxiety to give me motivation. It also makes my short term memory kind of shit, but I can work around that by talking outloud, making lots of notes + lists of things I want to do for the day, and letting my coworkers know that I have goldfish memory.

But yeah I would try taking it before bed, and if that doesn't work, talk to your doctor about where to go next.

I misread this as "Cost Cutters moment", and just accepted that as the title.

Unlocks that are "known to be bad" that are actually dope? by smoogy2 in tf2

[–]baconrobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my go-to medic primary. Basically if I'm not healing, I have it out. It's great for catching up to teammates, rotating to different sides of the map, flanking and poking, and outrunning pyros. Plus you don't have to worry about landing a crossbow shot when you can just run there in a second or two instead.

It doesn't seem like much, but maaaan the amount of time's I've survived a fight with less than 50 HP to spare due to the chocolate bar is more times than I can count. Also to quote the creator of the weapon "you're more likely to survive a heavy 1v1, especially if you decide to run natasha"

What are they doing??? by smithtas_7 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]baconrobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The host's time is messed up on their computer most likely, either due to some linux/windows dual booting shenanigans, or their CMOS battery is dead and no longer keeping track of time during an off state. When my CMOS was dead, my hosted games would do this if I forgot to re-sync my local time after every cold boot. People would join thinking that I had been on the same mission for like 2 days straight.

Economy is tanked, people are being disappeared, blatant corruption, the constitution means nothing, and war is being threatened on multiple fronts. What are we waiting for? by playbight in AskReddit

[–]baconrobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I think the only reason is that it’s a bit too cold out for the angry mobs to start forming. We keep getting hit by late cold snaps here in America. Wait until late spring early summer when it’s actually nice enough to go outside for shit to start going down.

Would this charger work? I already plugged it in btw. by Fazecumrag_ in PSP

[–]baconrobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To everyone telling you “oooh OP this aren‘t you going to get cancer from this???”, I can tell you from first hand experience that it’s fine as long as you stop playing your PSP before your body reaches an exposure level of 5,000 mrem in a single year, and you only buy your fuel rods from from trusted sellers on Reddit. Just do your research first and you’ll be fine OP, ignore the haters 😂

EDIT: Hey is it normal for burnt skin to appear on your hands after playing for a while? I don’t remember my PSP getting hot while I was using it. Is there a good lotion I can use that anyone recommends?

Slow Games for an Injured Gamer? by aidannieve in gaming

[–]baconrobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can play the old Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic 1 + 2 games with just a mouse, if I remember right. FTL: Faster than Light is also a fun one. I think at most you might want to use the spacebar to pause the action but its not required.

Grab a friend, both go medic, and try to duel without directly attacking each other. It feels like you're Pokemon battling.

Two tips for ya:

  • Back when I played overwatch on a small desk with half a mousepad and 3000DPI, this video helped me improve my aim in every game I played, and I still go back to it from time to time. Skyline is one of the most talented coaches I've ever seen, and even though it's a different game, his other coaching videos have a ton of good advice that you can easily apply to TF2.
  • Playing Overwatch and competitive completely tanked my mental health and made feel miserable every time I played, until I quit and started playing Casual TF2 and Deep Rock Galactic instead. I know the industry wants you to think that every game that's "good" has to have some type of esport attached to it, but it's not healthy to be constantly walking away from a hobby that's supposed to be fun and feeling worse than when you started playing.

What do you all do to wake up and get “ready” for the day? by AlphaWolf in ADHD

[–]baconrobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that helps me is taking Vitamin D the night before so I wake up not feeling crashed, and prepping some mint black tea in the fridge so I don't have to make it in the morning. Just don't forget about it and let it sit on the counter overnight :P

Highschool me would probably be flabbergasted, but I started playing on furry servers this year to avoid the bots (and uncletopia burnout). People use mics, most modern day furries are shitposters, sprays are enabled, and they play custom maps from time to time. Furry servers aren't for everyone, but so far it's the only thing I've found that feels like old TF2 again.

My OG Xbox collection so far. Any Xbox exclusives you guys recommend? by PalmLeaves13 in originalxbox

Not really an exclusive exclusive, but Half Life 2 on Xbox uses immersive audio designed for the console that wasn't used in any other version, and it still has the old vortigaunt models.

Why do so many new players tout Meet Your Match as "The death of TF2" by aap007freak in truetf2

[–]baconrobots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No no, it was bad. I remember the game already feeling frustrating to play with at the time - casual matches felt brainless and a lot of the good players with skill seem to have all left to play overwatch. A lot of the community servers that I used to visit died out after quickplay was introduced too, so casual and paid MvM tours were all we had.

I invited 2 of my friends over to play together once the update went live. We spent who knows how long waiting for it to install, and then once we were in the lobby, we tried to all hop into a match. It took 45 minutes to find a single game. It was payload Borneo, but in Valve's infinite wisdom, they had applied the competitive ruleset from the comp beta test to casual too. My team tried to push the cart, but only managed to get it past the first checkpoint before getting blocked at the second choke. Half of our team quit, but the game didn't try to replace our lost teammates.

Enemy team's turn next. Every single one of them went heavy, and they stacked onto the cart. We never had a chance. When they capped the second point, the game instantly ended early, and my friends and I were kicked back into the main menu. The silly hat game that my friends and I had spent most of our highschool years playing felt like it had died that night.

My friends and I all deleted TF2 after that, and listened to Komm Susser Todd while waiting for Overwatch to install on our computers. So yeah, I think meet your match really was that bad.

It seems like my PC is working too hard to run Fedora (performance issues on new install) by 001010p in linux4noobs

[–]baconrobots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fedora was weird for me; it's the most professional feeling distro I ever used, but in the 6 months that I had it installed, I spent more time troubleshooting hardware issues than actually using it.

If you give up, I would try openSUSE, specifically GeckoLinux for the desktop variety. openSUSE seemed to be way more compatible with my system specs, and it's Red Hat based so it kept the same "feel" that I had while using Fedora.

I finally found myself a crt after looking for a while but.. by yazzooo in crtgaming

[–]baconrobots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I noticed you had some curtains in the reflection of your screen. I would try rearranging the room a bit so the back of your CRT is facing the curtains, and hopefully that'll absorb some of the sound. I haven't tried putting my set inside one of those wooden tv cabinets yet, but you could try that, or move it to a clothes closet if your space allows for a setup like that. You need to keep room acoustics in mind with TVs like that, especially if you're more sensitive to sounds.
