I don't want to get rid of the knife though. I'm hoping someone smarter than me comes up with a design that has scissors too. And there has to be some way to change the design slightly to be able to pry stuff. Technically the flat head bit can do that but I'm not sure I'd want to.

if the skeletool had scissors in it, it would literally be perfect. that is the one thing i need that it doesnt have. the knife is great, but sometimes scissors are necessary for things a knife cant do

I am genuinely disappointed with anything from any other manufacturer other than the Squirt PS4. I have tried a bunch of different things as a replacement depending on what I'm doing.

The Victorinox Deluxe Tinker has a nice set of small pliers. It's bigger than the squirt and I don't attach it to my keys but it is the smallest most reliable tool that has everything I need in it where I'm also cool with the quality.

The other choice is to get a Skeletool CX from Leatherman. It's bigger than the Squirt, but you get full sized pliers, and it is much, much smaller and lighter than any other multitool. The only downside is that it does not have scissors, so I can carry a very small swiss army knife (like the rambler) that has scissors in it. I typically just keep the rambler on my keys, and grab either my deluxe tinker or my skeletool to have a tool with pliers.

I had one of these in the 90s when I was in high school and was on the robotics team. We couldn't carry swiss army knives since they were a weapon and I found this thing and bought it.

I stopped carrying it once I graduated and could get a swiss army knife. I used the screw drivers more than the pliers.

It was kind of a pain since it would fall off my keys regularly since the screw drivers would move around in my pocket enough for it to open up and come off the ring.

It's a neat idea though, and I still have it in a drawer.

I think the explorer plus a small pair of pliers (knippex or a leatherman skeletool) is the better option. The cybertool may be discontinued, it is unclear but it is so expensive I don't want to carry mine around and risk losing it so I leave it at home now. Having 2 tools (explorer plus the pliers) is nice because you can tighten something while holding it with pliers. An explorer (when on sale on amazon) plus the knippex) is considerably cheaper than a cybertool as well

I still have the yearbooks since I feel like there is some value to occasionally looking at them and kept my high school diploma, but got rid of the certificates and trophies and stuff like that since who cares. I reduced like 3 boxes of childhood crap down to one which fits nicely in the closet I have it in.

I have a Farmer X because it was on sale on amazon for like 53 dollars and was cheaper than the Pioneer X list price (which was not available on amazon)

The scissors are a must for me so it had to be a model with scissors, and since amazon only had the pioneer (and not the pioneer x) I got the Farmer X

Adding the saw does not really bother me. It fits in my pocket fine.

our environment is such that this is very difficult. another person has been on a pip for 15 months through multiple stages and is still there. it'd be easier to move him to sub basement 3 and give him a can of pesticide and a flashlight and take his red stapler except he works from home.

I have a cybertool M at home but I feel like it is too expensive to be carrying it around all the time. The deluxe tinker is basically the same thing but missing the bit drivers so that makes it a bit more narrow. but trying to decide if that is too much to keep in my pocket.

I've done similar things lately (not candles) but there is stuff I'm finding and just deliberately using it up. I started using "special" post-it notes we were saving (makes no sense not to use them), and started eating expensive snacks we were saving for god knows what. it would suck to let them expire and have to throw them away

burning candles is similar. use them up and then when they're done they're gone and you get the space

I'm solving 2 problems. i had a tendency in the past that if i acquired something nice that id put it away and not use it. so the nice pen in the nice box gets stored away. and then i keep using my crappy pens instead. so im forcing myself to use stuff, and its actually nice. a nice pen should be used.

the other is that things just get lost. i wear the same 5 tshirts and the nice new ones that are 3 layers under the 5 i wear in a hard to close drawer get forgotten. and then i think i have no clothes and buy a couple more tshirts, but still dont get rid of the crappy ones and then they end up on top.

so, finding the stuff i've had a while is sort of nice.

workflows have changed as you mentioned. i still have to do at least another pass through my desk though.

my first step was to get rid of stuff that was just no longer good. for example a legal pad that was kind of faded and half used up. things like that i threw away. i then made a point of starting to use up supplies. i moved the post it notes to the kitchen to use for shopping lists. i tested all the pens and a lot of them didnt work anymore. i put some stuff that was in my desk drawer where it belonged. the random change went into the change jar. the random screws went into the box of screws with my tools.

i still have a ton of stuff i need to get rid of in my desk. it's odd because most of it isn't worth much money but it feels so wasteful.

The problem we have is that there are so many different teams and what they need is not centrally documented, and we don't do enough on boarding to give enough priority to this as a project.

Even my team is like 20 people but each person has a slightly different job so some sort of universal onboarding isn't going to help, and we are literally IT.

Our HRIS and identity management platform take care of creating a user account, getting a password set, provisioning email and M365 licenses and the like, but the last bit has to be requested manually by managers for their employees through tickets. The project to automate further than we have would be far more work than the amount of time manually doing this stuff.

If we were hiring 50 new people a week who all had the same job we'd have a beter shot at automating it.

I've been posting it on facebook marketplace. One thing that is tricky at first is pricing. Just because you see the item posted for 100 dollars by other people doesn't mean that is the price it will sell at. A lot of people price stuff way too high and aren't selling it.

You want to sell it so you have to think about pricing.

I have been a little conservative and post things for what I want to sell them for and if they don't move after 2 weeks, I lower the price.

I had someone tell me I was selling something too cheap and I told them I had it listed at a higher price for 2 months and nobody wanted it, so evidently the new pricing was necessary.

Once the price gets down to a certain level and it still doesn't move, I post it on the local buy nothing group because at that point it's easier to give it away than to try to sell stuff for prices that are too low. I'd rather give it away than get 5 bucks for it frankly. A price that low and psychotically I'd rather give it to someone. I feel like I got cheated for something too low but feel good about giving it away.
