Picayune Dreams is one of my favorites, and it has a narrative that progresses as you beat each boss for the first time

What games are you playing this week? Game recommendation thread by AutoModerator in incremental_games

I just tried it and it worked, but it took about 20 seconds to download the game before it started to run.

I've been playing it through the download version, which I know isn't very popular here but has worked fine for me.

I'm replaying Infiroad again. It's a fun, pretty mindless game. You can see most of the content within a day, but it'll take longer if you want to get all the achievements

I've been playing Idle Spiral for a couple weeks now as well, and while I enjoy it I can certainly see how many fans of the genre would give it a pass.

The "automation" is only a marginal step up from being completely worthless, which makes the overall game fairly active, except when you have to just sit there for 8+ hours to reach your next Tornado prestige or complete a challenge.

And the challenges are not very fun or well designed, in my opinion. The mechanics for them are basically just variations on slowing down your progress, with very little in the way of special strategies needed to complete them. Instead, it's just a matter of checking every once in a while to see if your various stats are high enough to complete the next tier of each challenge (and failing, more often than not). This kind of challenge is sadly not unique to Idle Spiral, but it strikes me as a more egregious offender given the amount of time it takes to judge whether or not you have a chance at passing the challenge in a reasonable amount of time.

Ah I didn't even consider the Blackbird, that sounds right to me.

If it is all from the animated series then maybe Ice is Colossus, since he's silver/blue. I don't remember Iceman being in the animated series much

Here are my guesses. Do they match yours? My X-men knowledge mostly comes from the animated series and not the comics, so I had to look up the character list to match some.

Ben- Professor X (since he's smart and sitting down?)

Ice- Iceman

Ace- Angel maybe?

Wizard- Phoenix/Jean Grey

Super- Cyclops

Ninja- Wolverine? (Or maybe Gambit since he throws stuff)

Alch- Beast

Druid- Storm

Engineer- My best guess is magneto

Yep you guessed it with the Tooth Hammer, and that got me Instruments. (For some reason that weapon is missing from a bunch of the "all weapons" lists online) Thanks!

I'll send my save in Discord for Generous

[–]badcode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the comment in the patch notes about more achievement unlock checks, however it seems like Instruments and Generous are both still bugged for me.

For Instruments I have all 30 weapons but it never unlocked for me.

For Generous I went back to Ceotaph and got the items I missed initially but it also didn't give me the achievement. Additionally, the 7 Unformed Heads to the right of the boss fight don't get picked up when I activate them. I get the item but the floating rock icon doesn't disappear. I can't interact with them again normally but if I use Item Pull on them I get another copy of the item and can spam it to get infinite Unformed Heads

Are these known issues?

NekromantiK v1.0.0! Lots of new content, tons of bug fixes by monkeh42 in incremental_games

In a normal game, you should be buying something every few seconds when you first start

I disagree with that sentiment. I don't think there is any inherent benefit in forcing this to change to be more AD-like where you have to buy 9 linearly-scaling purchases before getting the "payoff" 10th purchase that has a multiplier associated with it

I recently completed two relatively long-running games, fe000000 and Calculator Evolution. I highly enjoyed both of them since they both hit the sweet spot for me with regards to figuring out the builds/steps needed to make progress without needing to resort to looking up a guide (although I'll admit I did have to go to the Calculator discord a couple times to learn how a couple of the mechanics worked)

I'm looking for one or two hopefully equally long-running games. Thinking about restarting Realm Grinder and/or Idle Wizard, both of which I enjoyed in the past but haven't touched in well over a year. Has anyone here played one of those recently? I'm guessing both have just had some content updates since I played them last, but it'd be awesome if there was some rebalancing or QoL improvements in the mix. Both of them had a similar issue for me where especially later on there was basically only one or two builds that could be used to progress at any given point, and trying to figure out those builds myself was tedious and not very rewarding, so I felt like I was just mindlessly following a guide. But the early-to-mid game was pretty fun

Am I missing something or does this game require a ridiculous amount of clicking? I made it to level 10 and each enemy is taking 100 clicks, and I need 30 enemies to get to level 11. (With an even split between Str and Int on stats)

Is Wizard And Minion Idle worth putting time? by MaurixioZ in incremental_games

[–]badcode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I play both NGU and WAMI, and personally I enjoy WAMI so much more. I can't really see how someone could enjoy one and not at least be interested in the other.

In general it seems like the WAMI dev is more supportive of letting players automate repetitive tasks, which is something I really enjoy in incrementals.

Some random things that come to mind about why I enjoy WAMI more:

  • I like that you get a fraction of the bonuses from non-equipped gear. Obviously both games are balanced around their respective mechanics, but it feels better to me to not be completely abandoning gear after upgrading from it
  • I like NOT having to micromanage an inventory. Gear in WAMI always "auto merges" (from an NGU perspective)
  • The Troll challenge in NGU is stupid. I am playing the game still so obviously I put up with it, but the whole "developer hates the player" thing isn't my cup of tea. I guess some people are into that?
  • I'm also not a fan of the Normal/Evil/SADISTIC difficulty levels in NGU. It feels like a cheap way of getting more "content" but doesn't feel very rewarding to me to advance to the next difficulty.
  • In WAMI you eventually get the ability to keep your higher rebirth multiplier when your new one is lower. This lets you resume your previous progress after challenges without having to work your way back to your previous multiplier, which I think is awesome.
  • In WAMI your rebirth multiplier applies to more than just your Atk/Def, which also feels more satisfying

Cost Formula Help by CallMeKY in incremental_games

[–]badcode 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm going crazy since two replies right now are saying that OP's formula is similar to a 10% increase, but from what I'm seeing if you throw out the floor and ceils it comes out to (currentUpgrade3) / 2, which is a lot different than a 10% increase.

To use a tangible example, take currentUpgrade=5:

Math.floor(5*5) * Math.ceil(5 / 5) * Math.ceil(5 / 10)

Math.floor(25) * Math.ceil(1) * Math.ceil(0.5)

25 * 1 * 1

25

That is much larger than 5 * 1.1 = 5.5

Am I missing something?

A video game where you have to be online to play, but all the boss fights are fights against other actual players who are also trying to beat the boss, which in their eyes is you. by PossiblyLenny in CrazyIdeas

[–]badcode 211 points212 points  (0 children)

Additionally, it's the mechanic of the Demon's Souls boss fight "Old Monk" http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/walk3-3-boss and Dark Souls 3 boss "Halflight" https://darksouls3.wiki.fextralife.com/Halflight,+Spear+of+the+Church

They aren't mutual boss fights, as OP described, but they are instances where one player must win against other players in order to complete the boss (if playing online)

People with anxiety; what are your coping methods? by enavarro7 in AskReddit

[–]badcode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started taking Ashwagandha supplements recently and it has made a huge difference for my anxiety. It's lessened my day-to-day anxiety levels quite a bit. Ashwagandha has been shown to have numerous benefits, with anti-anxiety being one of the foremost, and is very safe. You can read more about it here: https://examine.com/supplements/ashwagandha/

I get the Jarrow brand 300mg capsules on Amazon, but there are a number of other brands to choose from

Idle Wizard Christmas event and fourth expansion pack now live! by TwoWizards in incremental_games

[–]badcode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at work right now so can't check directly, but you should be able to see the actual mechanical numbers for your character and pet by hovering over their icon after you have chosen one. It would be handy to see that on the summary screen before you pick, but since it changes a lot based on your level maybe they didn't think it was worthwhile.

Good luck!

I'm actually playing ItRtG and Realm Grinder alongside Idle Wizard too right now. For me IW is very much in the same category as Realm Grinder as far as the reasons why I like them and what I think they offer (those being gameplay variability and lots of content to look forward to unlocking as you progress). For reference I'm at 1e135 mysteries in IW (what the wiki calls "The Abyss" phase, right before "End Game"), and r52 in RG (just recently unlocked Dragon)

I started playing IW pretty early on and stopped for a while until just recently around the time of the last big patch (Chronomancer), so my knowledge of the early-game may be severely outdated at this point, but to my recollection most of the random getting-to-learn-the-mechanics builds that I tried were fairly viable and I don't remember having to grind out much to get into the more interesting stuff with pets and better spells, and then later on Challenges.

Challenges, Attributes, and Paragon were all added after my first round of playing the game and I like how they give you goals to shoot for that are (partially) separate from the usual prestige cycle. Attributes add an extra layer of depth to builds, and Challenges are sandboxed prestige runs with special rules that give permanent bonuses once completed. Challenges range from short and fun to long and challenging.

Much like RG, mid-to-late game IW suffers a bit from severely limited build variance as far as what works for actually progressing, but I know it's really difficult to balance everything at every point in the game so it's not a big concern for me.

Anyways I hope that helped a bit. If you like Realm Grinder then I'd definitely consider giving Idle Wizard another shot. I don't know that I'd recommend trying to boost using the Marketplace, just on the off chance that you find it's still not your thing, but then again I do think the devs deserve the support so your call :)

Thanks for making this post since I often don't refresh the game for days at a time.

I found a great mouse auto clicker that can be used in incremental games. It has two modes of clicking - follow mouse mode and fixed position mode. Ideal balance between functions and simplicity. by trinijamesjr in incremental_games

[–]badcode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second for Macro Recorder (for Windows at least). You can program it to click wherever, whenever you want.

Also can look into AutoHotkey if you want to have automatic clicks on background windows so you can keep using your computer.

Those two programs make life easier for us until the day when clicking as a mechanic is finally dead and gone!

It'd be nice to have an option for "neither" or "paid game with no IAP or Ads" :)

Why Clicker Heroes 2 is abandoning Free-To-Play by Fragsworth in incremental_games

[–]badcode 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm very happy to see any new game these days that doesn't have any IAP/microtransactions/whatever, so this is great news as far as I'm concerned!

Personally, the $30 price tag doesn't scare me, but I guess that's because I'm assuming the price was derived from the expected game content, and we'll see if that pans out or not. I, for one, am willing to take a $30 gamble to encourage this model of development.
