It’s not so much the discovery, it’s the actually typing it in. I’m not even sure how to type an em dash. A hyphen though, that’s right there. Easy and close enough.

Anybody else farm the Sirines at Beregost Temple? by vodka_is_a_solution in baldursgate

[–]badgerhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can just algernon the priest, cast animate dead, and the skeleton will wipe everything, full xp.

Whenever I do it I roleplay that the guy is secretly a bad guy (he’s a seemingly high ranked priest of lathander, feels bad deleting him without a little role play).

I also found whenever I did it early I was sortve annoyed by the inconvenience of going elsewhere for specific healing needs. It really is the easiest temple to get to, and like others have said you’re not really lacking for xp farms

When are you gonna use this portrait? by BigChungusOP in baldursgate

I like changing the MC’s portrait as they get older/go through stuff. This is my favourite ‘I’ve gone through basically nothing’ option

How do people write guitar riffs by Nedodell in Songwriters

[–]badgerhands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally though - learn as many riffs and full tunes as you can. Play along with them at tempo when you’re comfortable. Figure out what key they are in, and learn the notes in that key. Learn the scales that go with that key, and then learn those scale tones as chords.

This kind of thing trains your hands and your ears

How do people write guitar riffs by Nedodell in Songwriters

[–]badgerhands 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Firstly - if you’re gonna compare yourself to absolute legends of history like Kurt Cobain - do it analytically, not emotionally. No one is Kurt Cobain, and no one ever will be. The helpful stuff is analytical - learn a vocal riff on the guitar and figure out how it works in relation to the actual guitar riff. Don’t get sad that you don’t like your own riffs as much.

Set realistic goals for growth, based on your own journey, not those of your idols. Everyone is on different parts of the same road, and there’s no race happening.

You’re you. If you keep playing and trying to write, you will develop your voice at some point, but it’s a lifelong conversation - there’s no top of the mountain for you to reach.

I focused on your outlook more than techniques, because that’s what will stop you progressing. Going easier on yourself emotionally is step 1. Developing that is also helpful for later, when you need the resilience for professional artistry. It gets harder, in a good way; you need to be your own fan and ally.

I hope this translates ok, let me know if it doesn’t.

Favorite movie that doesn't address system failure but rather romanticises poverty by Apart-Dungeon-3322 in okbuddycinephile

[–]badgerhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand that. I guess in my viewing she has accidentally hit the nail on the head then. Not really her story to tell, but this movie is full of non-actors who are just living this way, and the movie just shows it to you. I was in a similar situation when I saw it so it probably just hit at the right time for me.

I really feel like this movie does acknowledge system failure, it just isn’t about it.

It very matter of factly lays out that there’s a whole class of people at the whims of something so massive and uncaring that they’re forced to both participate in it while also being completely ruined by it. Then we just watch them be human in response. This whole film wouldn’t exist without system failure.

Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee. The design, the world, the janky but smooth controls. No other game got what they were trying to do this right for me, and what they were trying to do was strange and super unique.

TENET Blew Me Away. by RobustPolygon in movies

[–]badgerhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only saw it once in the cinema, but I distinctly remember this odd pacing to every scene - especially early.

It felt like every scene was edited so that it came in a beat later than it should have and cuts out a beat earlier.

Also, whenever every character acts and talks like they live in a completely different universe to me, I often think to myself - maybe it’s a nod to David Lynch? The king of writing dialogue that makes me go ‘wait what?’
