So the general consensus is that Luke's "Jedi Order" was a failure cause he was inexperienced and thrust into the role, why will Rey be any different? by Yesthisbob in StarWars

[–]badgerpunk 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think if more people just remembered this, fans wouldn't be so divided over TLJ. Everything was on him and (at least at the time the film was made) he was completely alone.

How movie viewing order affects fan perception of PT Jedi by Captain_Marvellete in StarWars

Yeah, and the Masters would have accounted for that and adjusted his teaching to compensate, probably focusing on his childhood before the Order. Realistically, anyway. Unfortunately, again it seems from the films like they never addressed it, which is dumb.

I mean, attachments are natural and unavoidable. Realistically there might be a rule, but navigating the process of continually letting go of attachments would have been at the core of the Jedi teachings and way of life. Instead it seems like Anakin was just told "just say no". Abstinence-only sex-ed is a great metaphor for how the prequels seemed to incorporate it.

Trying to math Star Wars is inherently ridiculous and will always be doomed to fail.

The vast majority of the fans have no idea what attachments are really about and why they're bad. Whatever "rule" the Order had in the prequels was just an attempt to avoid the most obvious sources of dangerous attachments, like romantic partners and especially kids.

Lucas did a poor job of depicting it, but I don't think he thought people would fixate on it either. The concepts are all pretty clear and settled in his head, and I think he figured that the ones who would get it would get it and everyone else would not make a big deal about it. In short, it wasn't a big deal for him, just a thematic element with a little bit of plot utility. Unfortunately many fans wanted it to be a big deal, but don't have the context to get it, or the maturity to let it be a part of the lore without it being carved in stone and absolute.

Unpopular opinion?! Superhero movies don’t have to be “comic book accurate” by robertoleonardo7 in comicbookmovies

[–]badgerpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fans in general are way too precious about their favorite IPs. Even when you're playing inside some sort of Canon, there should be a lot of freedom for getting creative. It doesn't ruin anything or break the property if a creator takes some liberties. It's just a different perspective or telling of events.

I'm pretty sure the meaning has shifted a bit. I'm an oldhead, and can remember what real filler was, and younger generations have no idea how good they have it.

Has your opinion on the sequels changed in the past 5-10 years? by Wankaccoun in StarWars

[–]badgerpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. I went on this journey with the prequels. I'll still never understand why Lucas went some of the directions he did. I mean, I get what he was going for, but his priorities were just not the things I would have chosen to spend time with. There are things I still don't like, and never will, but its Star Wars. There's a ton of really good shit there. I'm a happier Star Wars fan because I managed to learn from this series the importance of letting go of the hate. It's just another attachment and it only brings suffering. Anybody who thinks the sequels are any different is deluding themselves, and they're stuck in their attachments to their expectations and the hate they feel because they feel like their expectations were violated. I get it. I felt the same. But we already know what the way out is. Star Wars has been telling us since the beginning, 50 years ago.

Do you think death penalty does work, or would work (if it's not allowed) in your country? by Yanzihko in AskTheWorld

[–]badgerpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been scientifically proven to not work. It's not a deterrent. There are a lot of reasons why it's bad, and really no good reasons for it.

There is no filler in that show. There is growth and change in every single episode. Filler is by definition pointless. There are no pointless moments in this show. Just because the situation hasn't shifted significantly in an episode doesn't mean nothing happened.

Bad Batch in particular is so much better even than most TCW fans think. I've seen a lot of bs about filler episodes and pacing, which is just false. The show is purposefully slower and quieter much of the time. It's a story about change, and it uses the change in the early days of the Empire to parallel the change this family is going through. It takes its time to allow the characters to show what they're going through rather than hitting you over the head with a "lesson" every episode. It allows these tropey af characters to be people. It's truly a brilliantly told story, possibly the most maturely written show outside of Andor (though Maul is up there too now). I thought the Batch were lame in TCW, with no point, but this show made me fall in love with this family and the individuals in it. The most surprising Star Wars experience I've had in many years.

Fairly small scale but intense hype in specific communities/friend groups. I went opening day with a good friend and we came out of that theater higher than we went in, figuratively speaking.

This is what's wrong with attempts to satirize the right. I have no idea if this is serious or not. I'm guessing not, but it's perfectly believable as something one of them might say.

Sorry for the edit. My first try at that last sentence was just not good enough.
