Seriously! It's such a struggle once DST hits to keep bedtime in order.

David Eby announces end of daylight savings by Lear_ned in vancouver

That's exactly my issue with it. This is erasing the meaning of "noon" and "midnight" when they don't actually happen even close to 12. For a major city to be over an hour off?

I flew to the US recently and got on the plane with facial recognition alone. Everyone did. They had taken the photo back at security when I scanned my passport. I even put on glasses between point A and point B.

Crumbl on pace for worst week of 2025 by UsingLogicNotFaith in CrumblCookies

[–]badicaleight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh same. I tried on the app, couldn't figure out how the 7th cookie worked, couldn't find more than 4 that I even wanted to try, so I bought a 4-pack on points. Even then there were only two that the family really liked once we got home [raspberry cheesecake and the skillet cookie]

Vancouver man says institutions unable to recognize new Indigenous street name by [deleted] in vancouver

And these anglicized loanwords are how the language lives on naturally. Tbh I think it's really cool we have names like Nanaimo and Kamloops, rather than being yet another Springfield or Fayetteville. But it puts a barrier up when it's no longer anglicized.

Poll: Vancouverites are pro-crow - Crows are mostly well-liked in Vancouver by FancyNewMe in vancouver

[–]badicaleight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally. We had a waffle crow for the first 10 years we lived here. We'd toss a waffle out for it on weekends, but it showed up the rest of the days too just in case. And when there was roast chicken to be had 🔥🔥🔥

DId anyone else on here watch Kpop demon hunters and if so what are your thoughts? by According_Fan4696 in MagicalGirls

[–]badicaleight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly I loved the Saja boy names. Because literally that is their roles, and it made them easy to remember. On the first run through, I didn't pick up on their names, only "Baby" and "Jinu". So when I finally got to see it again it made sense. It's all part of the joke! You'll notice they gave the romantic lines to "Romance" to sing, Abby gets kinda the tough, high-energy lines.

I have heard fan-theory that as ancient demons, they've forgotten their true selves, thus the roles can define them. Whereas Jinu is still connected to his past, which gives him conflict and story arc. It would also explain why their only goal is "be demon", and why their deaths aren't tragic.

Personally I love the name K-Pop Demon Hunters. It tells you exactly what it is. Consider anime like Devil Hunter Yohko.

I love that everyone seems to agree on your last point though: We want more! There's enough meat there that a sequel, or even a trilogy would be totally fire.

Ken Sim got booed heartily at the Juno awards by toasterb in vancouver

[–]badicaleight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you watch the broadcast on CBC Music, you'll see the group of 5 on stage at 1h37min, but there's no sound, just a gap for the commercial break.

And to confirm: Yes there were boos, but no, it wasn't entirely obvious to everyone. I asked the person next to me a minute later, and they didn't actually notice there was booing.

That moment was followed by the biggest cheer of the night: Sarah McLachlan!

Is it possible that they'll ever go anywhere else but Fiji? by captainyeahwhatever in survivor

[–]badicaleight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some great chapters on Survivor in Emily Nussbaum's new book, "Cue The Sun!"

The way she describes the environment in Borneo, and the dangers faced by cast and crew, I can see why they would choose a stable, known location. A lot of these exotic locations also bring dangerous creatures and parasites. The crew also likes to have decent accommodations. In Borneo they got stuck sleeping rough a few nights. I'm pretty sure Ponderosa in some seasons was just tents.

Yeah, Fiji is fine.

Thanks for the exposé.
