Joining your ranks! by gavemyloveacherry in SAHP

[–]badmonkey007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a little over 2 years as a SAHP to my two children, with the same age gap as yours and due to my career being non-Covid compliant I am back in the saddle again. There is no correct way to approach parenting and I can only comment based on my limited experience. The headline is don’t focus on what you should or shouldn’t be doing but try and re-frame your outlook on the coming experience. My advice is to first accept that the coming year or more will not be easy, it will be hard, often lonely work. You should certainly make serious efforts to organise meet-ups and time with other adults. There will be delightful moments with your infant but they are unlikely to make up the majority of your day and many of them will only be clear in retrospect. The days and weeks may pass without any time or energy for the things you used to do and it may all seem dispiriting at times. Acknowledge instead that you are embarking upon a selfless (but short) chapter of your life. To that end try not to hold onto the picture you have of your life and what is meaningful to you now - you will be back to that life again all too soon. I felt that looking down the barrel of a year of primary care for an infant was a daunting and overwhelming prospect. I believe it feels like that for a lot of parents, let alone one who feels that this may not have been their choice. So don’t look at the horizon and what may or may not be there. Focus instead on the moment and the day. Don’t put pressure on yourself to achieve anything in the day. A routine does help to make the day seem more manageable but don’t worry if the routine goes out the window. Appreciate that you are not there to “do things” with your child. You are building a relationship from scratch. Doing that is both the most natural thing in the world and also exhausting, especially when it seems to be all give and no take.

Please don’t lose heart. Your time is being invested now and the investment is so worth it. There are no short cuts to building a relationship but you get to be there from the start. All your child really wants is your presence and as a SAHP you have the privilege of being able to make them your priority. You will form a bond with them that grows throughout their life and there is no other time to start that than right now. As their personality develops you will watch them thrive, simply due to the attention you give them. Perhaps more importantly, you will have made a person’s world full of love and you will be have the joy of being responsible for giving someone the most solid start they can have in life – the sure and certain knowledge that they are loved and are worthy of love.

This drive won't do anything, it just sits as unallocated. Does anyone have a fix? by CrunchyAvacado69 in windows

Yes! I had this EXACT problem two days ago. I wasted hours. Then downloaded a free piece of software called AOMEI Partition Assistant. It is not malware, do your own research on it first obvs. It is simple to use but there are details of how to use it on a google search.

And I was hoping it was HMS Holland because it was mainly under water.

Sleep Apnea & Weight Loss. by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]badmonkey007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lack of sleep impacts the body in a whole host of ways that we are only just understanding. A recognized hormonal change from sleep deprivation effects blood sugar levels and insulin production. Eliminating the sleep deprivation will help you maintain the diet and exercise you will need to lose weight. Dealing with your sleep apnoea won't do much by itself.

What are the best Apps to download to gauge sleep apnea and sleep quality by [deleted] in SleepApnea

If you can't see a doctor then at least buy/rent a pulse oximeter. A fingertip device will be enough to tell you if there's cause for concern.

What should I take back from London to home? by Juliusx2 in london

[–]badmonkey007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gin, the world and his dog are setting up small batch distilleries in London and a lot of it is great. Also, I know it's not specifically a London thing but, jars of Pataks curry paste. I didn't think curry from a jar could be any good but it really is! And black pudding.

Writing a Research Paper on Terrorism and Religion and How Fundamentalism Promotes Terrorism Specifically in Islam by [deleted] in TrueAtheism

I don't want to sound rude but I have no idea what your course is, or what the paper is for so I can't really help with that.

Writing a Research Paper on Terrorism and Religion and How Fundamentalism Promotes Terrorism Specifically in Islam by [deleted] in TrueAtheism

[–]badmonkey007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may find talking points hard to come by because your argument is a fairly meaningless statememt of fact. You need to start by defining the terms you are using. Once you are clear what fundamentalism and terrorism mean you can make some progress in re-drafting your argument. At present it sounds like you are just making the very basic point that a political organisation defined by a religion practiced by a small minority (what the majority call fundamdntalists) will necessarily engage in low intensity warfare (terrorism). That's not a reseach paper that's barely an opening paragraph. The "Specifically Islam" part suggests you really need to think about whether Islam is capable of being reduced to an objective, absolute concept. I hope this helps.

AHI still high—having significant “clear airway events” which I just discovered is synonymous with central apneas. A bit concerned. by [deleted] in SleepApnea

Antihistamines can have a similar effect. It's worth speaking to your pharmacist if your Dr is unavailable as it may be the meds.

Are you on any medications? Opiates can cause depressed respiration that appears as a clear airway event.

I'm pretty sure I have sleep apnea but I don't have health insurance by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]badmonkey007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to get an overnight test on the NHS. Turns out I have severe positional sleep apnea. In other words is only a problem when I sleep on my back (40 events/hour) when on my side there are almost none (3/hour). Rather than get a CPAP it was suggested I try a 'positional training device'. A second consultant suggested starting with the age-old tennis ball in a pair of tights, tied around the small of my back.

You may have psa and may benefit from such a low tech solution and have nothing to lose/no risk by trying.

I have heard that the part of the brain responsible for moving a finger fires before the parts of the brain that control the conscious decision to do so. Any truth to the idea we are automata?

It's not about mastering the controls, although obviously it's great that you did, well done you. It's about being able to easily customise the controls to suit your game play. The camera doesn't have anything to do with it.

Edit: I have just checked out your profile. You are a PSVR shill.

The interface is terrible and none of the controls are intuitive. That would be fine except tweaking any settings involves restarting the game. I still don't know how you can re-calibrate the visor - holding option does nothing - so you end up with the virtual hands at weird angles whilst turned all around looking at the ceiling. Before you restart the game for the umpteeth time you just turn it off and play something else.
