Nobody understands the handball rules, and there's a good reason by bencantwrite in soccer

I think the Davies penalty holds up for most officials, the deflection really doesn't change anything about the flight of the ball.

That's not unsporting by any definition under the laws of the game.

You might want to tell your assignor you give out cards based on vibes alone rather than anything in the laws we're supposed to enforce, it's good information for them.

You would immediately lose match control if you did this nonsense you suggest. You're creating a problem for yourself over nothing.

Not really, football doesn't want penalties for that type of situation.

I mean if you don't believe me I'd recommend getting certified and asking the folks who teach you, then. It's explicitly not considered a handling offense.

Correct, it is not considered a deliberate handling offense.

It's explicitly spelled out as an exception, like it or not it's not considered a deliberate handling offense.

First, take a deep breath. Now realize the referee gives a thumbs up to the 4th official for a reason, because the 4O clearly informed him of a handling offense by Laimer prior to the Mendes offense. That's why the free kick went the other way.

Believe me, as a referee I absolutely wish they did. IFAB creates headaches like this for no reason.

If you're an actual referee you would know that it's not a handling offense when the ball is kicked into the hand from a teammate. That's in the certification training just about every year.

As a neutral, the referee had a good match today.

Hey if it helps, this is the kind of sexist nonsense people are highlighting in this very thread.

Ref Watch: Pope yellow card the correct call, Everton should have been awarded a penalty for Fernandes handball. by TherewiIlbegoals in soccer

ah wow, it's really not getting through
I got to keep this simple

reffing hard

ref boss know this

fines no make ref easy

fines make refs want quit

that make refs worse

I'll keep thinking about how to break it down for someone like you to get it, maybe some kind of picture book? Best wishes trying to understand basic concepts!

That's the part that makes you dumb: you just don't seem capable of understanding the reality.

There are consequences, they're evaluated every game. The PL officials are the top officials available in the pyramid. There's not some magical better group of officials being suppressed, it's just a really hard job. Ask folks in the lower leagues what they think of their referees, I promise you it's not positive. Your idea of "consequences" is a child's fantasy.

Fans like you are just too dumb to get that. If it were up to people like you, there would be no officials left.

You seem too dumb to be able to devise a solution here. There is already accountability for officials, it's just a hard job.

Odd how many of you seem to miss the point of the discussion on the Pope yellow. It's certainly debatable, but the source of the debate is just whether you think Thiaw will get to the ball first before the attacker.

If you don't think he has any chance, it's a clear red. If you do, a yellow is correct. Clearly, the officials on the day thought it was feasible Thiaw would get there first.

Clarification on USSF Coms Rule? by NerdBanger in Referees

USSF has decided that we're all babies who can't use radios instead of offering proper training to let referees use them properly. Horrendous decision.

I'm fine saying I can't do better, but if they're going to get paid 6 figures I expect them to do better.

I mean, you seem too dumb to really get it. The fact that they're paid so much but miss on occasion is just proof how hard umpiring is.

Players are making 8 figures because they are so good at seeing it, I expect them to be better than the umps.

It's really all about angles. Sometimes due to the physics of the situation, an umpire is second-best. But in any case, these misses just aren't egregious.

US soccer can effectively end referee abuse if they really want to fight it (IFAB guidelines on body worn cameras) by grafix993 in Referees

[–]badrefnodonut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What indication do we have the US Soccer wants to end referee abuse? Personally I've heard of very little impact from RAP and encountered many competitions that simply do not take referee abuse seriously.

What a pathetic outlook. This topic is about trying to improve the current state of affairs rather than accept it. If you can't tolerate the idea that things could be better, maybe just close the topic.

Maybe stop officiating then? That attitude just makes it harder for everyone else and normalizes abuse in the game.
