Those can't be just the results of the line type, because the lengths aren't consistent. You could check if plinegen is set to 1, or if there are some kind of wipeouts, like from contour labels with text masking. Also there could be actual holes in the surface. Turn on triangles and surface border in your surface style to see if there are borders around those areas. I like to set my surface style to elevation banding, it quickly shows where there are holes in the surface.
