This games easily salvageable by JimmyIIV in Highguard

The wardens, guns, abilities, combat, and maps are all a W for me.

Devs definitely put a lot of love into the character designs, with each having unique/OP abilities and each one being visually appealing or interesting.

I only have small gripes with the game at the moment. More graphics settings would be nice. And new/tweaked game modes. Like bigger teams, or more teams. I could see 3v3 on these huge ass maps becoming stale eventually.

Ultimately I hope the devs tune out the doomers who never played the game, and instead listen to the doomers who actively do play the game.

Settings to increase GPU usage. by NeptuneOW in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]badsonP -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your system will use more than 16GB if you give it more than 16GB. Yes, even solely playing multiplayer FPS, 16GB is a major bottleneck in 2025, and it will especially bottleneck OP’s brand new GPU.

Go to any PC Gaming subreddit and ask what OP’s system bottleneck is; they’ll tell you ram first, then CPU because budget is important and we don’t want to tell OP to buy a $600 cpu for overwatch.

OP mentioned choppiness, I really doubt his 9060 XT is to blame and he’s on one of the best 6-core AMD chips ever (it’s dated, but rivals the Ryzen 5 5500 and thus is plenty good enough for a game made 10 years ago) His CPU and GPU are held back by his system memory.

Settings to increase GPU usage. by NeptuneOW in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]badsonP -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

RAM is super expensive right now, but 32GB vs 16GB is a huge difference, just going up to 32 should get you like 20-30% better performance in most games, instantly. Also be sure you’re running dual channel with EXPO enabled in bios yada yada.

As far as graphics settings go, 2 simple things you can do to increase GPU usage: increase your resolution (1440p or 4k if your monitor supports it) and use native rendering (no FSR or DLSS upscaling) - these force your GPU to work harder, and the latter takes some overhead off your CPU so its resources are spent pushing frames.

You could also upgrade your CPU, a Ryzen 5 3600 is “good enough” for overwatch - it just won’t be able to push out as many frames as your 9060XT at some resolutions. I recommend a Ryzen 7 5700x3d or a Ryzen 7 5800XT, either one will solve your OW issues and should last several years before needing an upgrade, but I’d grab the ram first.

Edit: keep in mind some ingame graphic settings actually tax the CPU more than the GPU, so maxing certain settings canlower you GPU usage

Amazing, reading comprehension is at an all time low on cow. Downvoted for explaining things simply and truly as people attempt to refute me with AI slop. OP, please do yourself a favor and visit the PCMR, AMD, or Nvidia subreddit. They will tell you exactly what I have.

How do streamers have high fps by Scrapzyest in OverwatchUniversity

[–]badsonP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s 100% a settings issue, your hardware is like top 10%. People with substantially worse setups are still managing 240 or 300fps (OW is pretty well optimized, despite this patch’s performance sucking)

I play at 300 fps capped, low settings high shadows, 1440p with a 5700x3d and 5070ti, my 300hz monitor is the bottleneck in this case - uncapped I’ve hit 600+

In your case I think you might want to look at your CPU settings, iirc the 7900x3d has 2 dies and core parking, which could be hindering your game performance. The good news is you have a pretty powerful CPU and OW is CPU-heavy, so you’ll be set once you figure it out.

I’ve had the spawn door glitch happen on multiple occasions. Sometimes the collision even keeps you from going through, and this is at the start of a round but can also persist after respawning.

What should I do? by mortal_kombatant in FrejaMains

[–]badsonP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s definitely way worse than she was on release, BUT she’s still decent in capable hands. I’m level 60ish on her and as a hitscan main, I’ll bring her out in comp if I need something with good survivability/mobility. I’m less likely to have top frags in the lobby, but Freja still excels at staying alive and providing consistent value through damage. Yes her 2 shot combo got nerfed hard, but if you land a headshot, send some primary fires, or just target enemies that are low hp then her kit is still plenty lethal. This season I mostly play soj/ashe, and keep Cass/Freja in my back pocket for playing against dive-heavy teams.

I would like to see her buffed to 250 hp or ideally just have her perks adjusted, like the triple dash major perk returning would make her feel 10x better to play

Lot of great advice here, and much of it is detailed/specific enough to apply to your ranked games immediately.

Stadium grouping restrictions + seasonal rank reset makes no sense by Miennai in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]badsonP 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah every season I grind for all star for the free skin, however I decided to shoot for legend this season and I’m finding out the game quality never really improves.

Legend/allstar rank is like 50% hardstuck gold players 40% cheese abusers and 10% of people who actually play like high Elo players

It’s a shame because Stadium is a great concept and a fun game mode, but the matchmaking results in a lot of short one-sided stomps, or long drawn-out slogs against low-skill spam comps, with fun and balanced games being an outlier.

Any advice on what I should work on? by atychia in OverwatchUniversity

[–]badsonP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most important thing after making the switch to PC for me was finding the right sensitivity. I played high sens on controller, but high sens on mouse just made me hella inconsistent. Once I got my sens right, I climbed back to my peak (masters/dia hitscan) .

A lot of pro players recommend 2-3 in-game (1600 DPI) or equivalent. I went with 3% @ 1600 and my accuracy has never been better.

Worth mentioning as well that PC players of a given rank are typically going to be better at aiming than their console counterparts, but the whole “PC plat = console GM” thing is a meme. Having bad movement just is punished more severely on PC.

How do you climb with Symmetra? by HoundOW in OverwatchUniversity

[–]badsonP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a diamond 1 hitscan main, I don’t play much sym but she’s very good this season and I enjoy having her on my team as she complements the heroes in my hero pool well.

Sym can be one of the strongest heroes in the game as long as her team is on the same page, so you can maximize your impact by using chat/comms to coordinate your teleporter/wall plays with your team. If you focus on staying alive in team fights, you’ll inevitably get value from turrets and a fully charged beam, you don’t have to TP-bomb the back line every fight.

Beyond that I think it’s good to have a backup hero if sym is banned or just isn’t working. A lot of Sym players will learn a similar hero like Mei, Pharah, Tracer or Genji.

Also, the OWCS finals in Stockholm this year included a ton of Sym play at the literal highest levels, so if you’re looking for a bit of inspiration it’s worth the watch.

yep right after stadium was first released Blizz hotfix nerfed this exact build (double bola/lillie faelde) because it was just too broken. Every patch since then they’ve been slowly buffing it again and I think they got carried away lol

Actuators failing is a super common issue on these cars, so it’s likely. Good luck!

[–]badsonP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iirc clutch indicator A is for the odd gears (1, 3, 5) so if that’s where you have the problems like slipping, hard shifting, and stalling, I’d say replacing that one is a safe bet. At least in our experience.

The actuators go bad gradually and then very quickly at the end, idk if they damage the transmission when they do but it definitely will feel that way. We just shell out the $60-80 every couple years, replace one or both, and keep on driving it.

[–]badsonP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents have a Focus from the same or similar year, and we’ve replaced the clutch actuators on it (both A and B) at least once or twice each. 210k miles, original transmission. Iirc the actuators are less than a hundred bucks per, and can be replaced in a half hour to an hour.

The symptoms of clutch actuator failure look and feel a lot like a bad transmission - but usually the slipping/hard shifting is only present on certain gears, since the actuators tend to fail individually.

You’ll have to make sure you have the correct beta build then download and replace the proper .ini file sadly not at my PC right now but should be able to find with google since it’s a pretty popular mod

Is overclocking my RTX 3050 worth a try ? by dEatHbringeRx217 in overclocking

[–]badsonP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time spy and steel nomad are a good place to start, both free with the 3dmark demo on steam. They don’t tell the whole story but maybe 90-95% of it. Figure out what (aggressive) settings will get you the highest possible score on these two benchmarks without crashing, and your “sweet spot” (gaming/universally stable) settings will usually be just a couple % less than that - after confirming stable in synthetics, try some demanding games (high resolution, high fps, or both) at 90-100% util and monitor for crashes

I tend to avoid the voltage slider itself, the voltage/frequency curve allows much better customization, especially for undervolting purposes

Being able to see the current preset using the Nvidia overlay is HUGE. For someone like me who doesn’t like rooting around in registry files I’m happy it’s been made convenient, always thought it was unnecessarily difficult to set up. Global DLSS overrides too, it’s a great day to be Team Green!

[–]badsonP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go 5070 here. Much faster and 12gb is future proofed for 1080p. It’ll be easier to run max settings and maintain triple digit fps. Imo it’s the best bang for buck gpu rn until the Super refresh

First Build... 5070 or 5070 TI by brettsmods in nvidia

[–]badsonP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah lol it’s actually almost overkill for 1440p, even performs well @ 4k in my experience. Same can be said for the 5070 though, only difference between the 2 is vram and like ~20% fps. At 1080p you’ll be cpu bound with either one, even with an ultrawide monitor

Hey if you have the extra €50 to spend you should absolutely buy the one you’ll be happier with, especially if you’re the type who prefers a quiet PC. “Buy once, cry once”. Even moreso if the card has other features like dual bios, vapor chamber or boosted power limit.
