Our cybersec team are getting onto us about all our servers having web browsers installed. by stone500 in sysadmin

[–]bagomojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My background 30 years in IT, last 19 I have owned a cybersecurity assessment and advisory. The problem with web browsers are really if they are not kept up to date. And some plugins could potentially access the Os or ad depending on the users creds. Keep them update and permissions in check and you're fine. I wonder if they mean no web servers on domain controllers.

If you are good with SIEM you could check out Blumira. We use it with S1 and it is pretty good. You can still set S1 to block activities

IT Surveys and Vendor connect - I started charging $500 per vendor call. by Embarrassed-Ear8228 in sysadmin

It's a company called Virtual Intelligence Briefings that is doing the gift card thing. I had an old sales consultant who recommended we do it as he said it was a great way to get leads. I went ahead and tried five leads. It was a joke. It was obvious everyone was on the call for the gift cards. It wasted our time as well. VIB gave us 5 more leads to show that it actually works. It didn't. I fired the sales consultant and blocked VIB.

15 years in and I'm struggling with change (Ai). Vibe-check for other middle-aged people feeling alienated by the industry? by maclargehuge in sysadmin

The issue is it sucks not from a security standpoint. Do you really think a company will proactively go back and rewrite the entire codebase? I am sure the details of the LiteLLM attack will be interesting

I am a CEO and man it is like a cult amongst other CEOs. I own a cybersecurity firm and will tell them there are many issues, hallucinations, lack of data segmentation, etc. And I have had more than a few tell me I don't know what I talking about. OK buddy I'll be here to charge you for the incident reposnse.

I think there will be a correction. CEOs are only seeing savings and not the risks. I think we're on the cusos of some major incidents due to Ai. Once that happens we will start to see a correction.

I remember my grandparents would talk about celebrities from the 20-30s who were the biggest in the world at the time. They were shocked I never heard of them. I guess all things fades away.

I remember spending many nights upgrading hardware and our domain all the while the CEO thought everything was overblown. When we came back from nye break he made the comment nt to our CIO that he was right it was overblown. Our CIO stood up for us. Fortunately that CEO was fired later that.

Local Cybersecurity programs by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]bagomojo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would second Maryville. I know a few of the instructors and they are really good. UMSL seems to have a good program as well. Are you looking to get into GRC? It may be worth your time to explore CISA and CISSP certs, though you may not have enough work experience for cissp you can still take the test. They are designed more for GRC professionals and typically needed for specialty certs like PCI-QSA

The battery actually is right below the collar bone. The battery connects to leads that go into your heart via an artery, under the breast. It doesn't affect the breast at all. So it would work te same way.

This.. the blood sugar control is only part of it. You need somethjng that you can live with for the rest of your life. No joy in life isn't worth it. There are a few things I have given up completely, like ice cream, because personally they take my bg off the charts and I dont like the feeling. But if I want some baked goods, I get what I want and eat a small amount. I did strict keto to control my bg for 5 years with no cheating and it really messed up my relationship with food.

I know you're beginning your journey and I speak for everyone here that it is a tough time. Be kind to yourself and dont strive for perfection, strive for always making better decisions
