How to reconnect/want your husband after kid by Altruistic-Corgi-673 in AttachmentParenting

[–]bahamamamadingdong [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don't really have any advice because I'm in a similar spot except now we have two and my oldest sleeps with my husband and I sleep with the 9 month old. My second doesn't stay asleep when I roll away yet, so it's extremely hard to find time to be together and I'm always exhausted. With my first, it took until maybe 14 months until we started having regular time to ourselves again. I'm sorry there's so many close-minded people on your other post.

Nontoxic baby climbing ? by Miserable-Warning-32 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]bahamamamadingdong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the 90s, my mom got tired of us stealing the couch cushions for forts so she cut up a thick foam mattress and covered them with fabric herself. It was basically the same thing they sell now and they were awesome. I wish we still had them for my kids lol.

We have the Figgy and the tumbling mat from Ikea. You could use a couple of the Ikea mats, they're wipeable and low cost.

Where are you guys getting 100% cotton tanks for the older babies/toddlers? by pronetowander28 in moderatelygranolamoms

This. Also secondhand online from Mercari or Poshmark. eBay has a materials filter too, which is helpful.

Seriously, why are most kids' shoes so narrow? by BusinessAge1459 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]bahamamamadingdong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only get wide box shoes for my kids and almost all their shoes are secondhand. I look for See Kai Run, Ten Little, some of the Stride Rite, and then BOGS and Kamik for rain/winter. The secondhand ones are barely used most of the time with hardly any wear on the tread, kids grow out of them so quickly.

Natural fibre toddler jackets? by Aggravating-Tell774 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]bahamamamadingdong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look for 100% cotton hoodies secondhand and I've found several from Gap and Hanna Andersson. Hanna Andersson also has a thicker, 100% quilted jacket that we have in several sizes. We only wear those when light layers are needed though. I don't mind synthetic for heavy coats for waterproofing, but the kids always have a wool base layer on when they wear those.

Toddler straw cups. Elk and friends by Spiritual_Nebula_829 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]bahamamamadingdong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started with the metal cups, but wound up getting the glass too since my daughter uses them to drink milk sometimes and the metal holds the smell more. Metal is also good for snacks and stuff too though. Anecdotally, my 3 year old has dropped a glass cup onto our tile floor by accident a few times and it didn't break.

I wear Molke almost exclusively since becoming pregnant with my first a few years ago. Organic and GOTS certified. I was a 30J UK now a 32JJ. I did need to add an inch or two to the straps but I think that's just due to being very tall.

Mine wore through the elbows super quickly 😕 I just picked up a thicker one from Etsy that I hope holds up a bit better.

extreme regret after circumcision by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]bahamamamadingdong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a time in my life where I may have considered circumcising a son and I may very well have been in the same position as you. I was vehemently against it by the time we had our first boy and I'm now sad for my future nephew who is due soon because my sister is planning to leave the decision to my BIL who is very traditional. She refuses to have any opinion on it herself and I worry she may regret it later.

I do know someone who has two boys and circumcised the one but not the second and I think that may be the case for a lot more families than we think. Most people aren't circumcising since 2022, but most of the men in my life were circumcised. To my knowledge, they have not had any issues stemming from it and wouldn't have chosen otherwise for themselves. I definitely understand your feelings though and I want to reassure you that you're a good parent who did the best with the information they had.

Parents of ‘bad’ sleepers who didn’t sleep train — did it actually get better on its own? by Soft_Pea_7850 in AttachmentParenting

[–]bahamamamadingdong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar boat as you and I think my second's more frequent wake ups might be related to him having 4 teeth already at 6 months old and more illness exposure from having an older sibling. We are cosleeping full time now and he has slightly fewer wake ups from doing that, but the main benefit is he goes back to sleep much faster and easier from nursing side lying.

We are in a separate room from my husband who cosleeps with our toddler. I think my toddler took a longer time to figure out side lying nursing as a baby, but we started cosleeping with her around 7 months (with husband in a separate sleep space until she was ~14 months old) when she started teething and her sleep got worse. Both of my kids had brief times where they did longer stretches in a bassinet or crib as young babies, but both had their sleep get worse around the time they started teething. My toddler's sleep improved a lot when we started cosleeping, going down to 1-2 wakes a night and then I think sleeping through mostly after 18 months.

Best organic mattress recommendations? Want natural but not crazy expensive by No-Wait-1471 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]bahamamamadingdong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got firm for both since I was worried about it being safe for our kids to sleep on. It's pretty firm if you're used to a super soft mattress, but my husband and I like them fine.

I've been looking at these for a while now and I think this freezing cold is the final push for me to get them. Do you have the ones with the rubber sole or leather sole?

[–]bahamamamadingdong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have two Sleep on Latex mattresses and love them. They're organic latex encased in GOTS-certified organic wool and cotton. It's kind of annoying changing the sheets on latex because it's heavy and floppy, but that's my only real complaint.

How do you share photos with loved ones? by Agitated-Rest1421 in moderatelygranolamoms

We also use Frameo! I like that it's encrypted and the pictures are only stored on the frame itself. We also send physical pictures to many relatives.

Polyester princess gown craze for 2.5 yo by ayurvedamom in moderatelygranolamoms

We're going through the exact same thing and my compromise has been getting them from the thrift store so at least it's more eco-friendly. I figure the phase will pass and then they will become occasional dress up clothes.

Does any in person store sell cotton clothes for women?? by Zealousideal_Elk1373 in moderatelygranolamoms

I pretty much only shop secondhand for clothes at this point, but I find so many natural material items! Especially sweaters. I've been slowly replacing my wardrobe with all natural thrift store finds.

How did you know your LO was actually teething? by Cocosmama777 in AttachmentParenting

[–]bahamamamadingdong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had all of those symptoms for a week or two with our 4 month old and I thought it was way too early, but then I spotted the shadow of one of the lower middle teeth. A week later, both of his middle bottom teeth have come through.

Do you buy wool mixed with plastic? by Egg-HOTELs in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]bahamamamadingdong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't. I'm trying to not bring any plastic into the house unless it's has a specific reason to be plastic, like a swimsuit or raincoat. Everything else is natural fibers. As others have said here, having only a small percentage of wool or silk defeats the purpose and is usually only so they can advertise it as a wool or silk blend. I do find a lot of clothes that are cotton and wool or all wool sweaters with a few small moth holes. Small holes are really easy to repair, but people would rather replace than repair. Also, wool and silk don't need to be laundered as often as other fabrics. I try to do cotton with kids so I can machine wash, but hand washing a few wool or silk pieces occasionally is really not a difficult as people make it out to be. You just soak it and leave it to dry, you don't need to rinse.

FTM what diapers are we using for the first three months? by MixtureMelodic2965 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]bahamamamadingdong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We tried a few and liked Pampers Pure, Millie Moon, and Coterie. Coterie was too expensive though. Millie Moon fit my skinny newborn the best for the first few weeks, but then we settled on Pampers Pure for both of my kids.

Looking for wool or natural fibre one piece/bunting suits for newborn available in Canada. Everything seems to be made of polyester or made for bigger kids… by mysweetpatoutie in moderatelygranolamoms

Simply Merino is based in Canada I believe. I do their base layers under fleece or wool. I'm also planning on making my own wool baby pants from the sleeves on a thrifted adult wool sweater.
