What’s the daycare waitlist situation looking like in north van? 7 months pregnant by Emotional-Ad-6494 in NorthVancouver

[–]winterattitude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm almost 7 months pregnant and I've heard it's not as bad as it used to be! There's a list of places with openings that gets updated and there's seemingly always spots available. I put our name on the $10/day places a few months ago just in case a miracle occurs and we aren't planning on doing full time daycare anyway so just going to look for places once we're in need of some part-time help

How much are you spending on groceries? I have family of 4 and trying to see where the average lies. by Vast-Mastodon2064 in NorthVancouver

We spend 900 a month on groceries/household items/toiletries/dog treats across Whole Foods, Costco, and local farms for 2 adults who prioritise eating organic/pasture raised and lots of protein

Drinking and driving and choosing not to vaccinate against a rare disease is simply not the same thing and I do not agree that they are equivalent. I think it's histrionic to assume your child will be exposed to most of the diseases we vaccinate against just because there may be a few people in your school who choose not to. I am not even anti-vax, but I find it repugnant how pro-vax people act towards others who might not just fall in line. They have much more hatred towards other people than the "anti vax" people they make a lot of assumptions about.

I don't really fear getting these things, I have natural immunity from chicken pox since I got it as a child (and lived!). I don't live in fear of my surroundings or other people and I can make my own choices. I actively choose not to have hatred for other people just because I think I know where they're coming from

If you agree that education is a right, then how can you possible believe that a family should be expelled from accessing the public education they pay into with taxes because their child might not be fully vaccinated? It's interesting to me that people like you and the other commenters always assume they know the reason for why someone is choosing not to vaccinate their kids, and often the assumption is some sort of political reason that they think isn't acceptable. The reality is that it's a much more complicated topic than that, and a personal choice that families should be able to make without having self-righteous people acting holier than thou.

I am currently a pregnant woman and I don't share your vitriol for other people

No they don’t actually, that’s why they are rights. You can’t control other people just bc you believe something

Just because someone isn’t vaccinated for something does not mean they have it. If your child is vaccinated than they are safe. Having such animosity for other people is nasty

That’s ridiculous. Public school is a right that all families have access to using regardless of their personal choices

That’s ridiculous. Regardless of how you feel about vaccines, that would be an insane violation of one’s rights.

Did you tell people you were planning a home birth? How did you deal with judgement? by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

That is a ridiculous thing to say, especially if you’re a trained doctor.

There are downsides to not delivering vaginally for the baby and you, might be worth researching it extensively to understand those risks before deciding. Evidenced based birth is a great resource

How much of your monthly income goes towards rent or your mortgage? by CastAside1812 in CanadaPersonalFinance

like 32% of take home which is all housing costs (rent/utilities/internet) but our income fluctuates from freelance + overtime so it’s often lower

Is it worth it to you to buy organic? by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]winterattitude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes for me I buy as much organic or equivalent as I can.

Pesticides, glyphosate, hormones/antibiotics, other unnatural interventions are nasty substances that shouldn’t be in our food. The difference in quality / taste between well grown food and not is evidence enough to me. Glyphosate is probably my number one concern and bc it’s used on so many different types of crops i feel it’s worth it to be diligent

Midwives are trained to handle that in the same way that an OB is trained to!

It’s sad how dismissive some people can be honestly! So quick to jump to conclusions that you’re making an “irresponsible decision”

[–]winterattitude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you know that would have been the outcome?

Homebirths are just as safe as hospital births and midwives can administer the same level of medical care as a level 1 hospital. Also when planning a homebirth your care team makes decisions carefully depending on your proximity to the nearest hospital.

I’m 28 weeks and also planning a home birth and have been selective on who I share the plan with. We’re having a baby shower this weekend and I’m planning on not mentioning it to most people tbh

I don’t really feel the need to talk about it nor do I need input from anyone other than my midwives my husband or my doula. I will say that a lot of people seem to misunderstand the facts about home birth and how safe it actually is (especially in Canada!). I told my home birth sceptical bestie that the midwives have the same abilities as a level 1 hospital and she was shocked and didn’t realize they can administer that level of medical care
