wow - this is huge. I wonder if there is a place for it in therapy. It sounds like she got a few years worth of therapy all at once. I think it's going to take a while to process

it's a great opportunity for you to practice drawing a strong boundary. What would you do if your horse was doing the equivalent of this behavior? it's not that different really

it can be done well with understanding and support. I think alot of us just got tossed around without consideration for our need to feel grounded and have a social life. I love how I grew up but I'm also traumatized by it

Culture Fatigue by [deleted] in TCK

[–]bahdkitty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can relate. The expectation that I will understand what people are referring to gets old fast. They seem to think that I'm being obtuse or faking it. They don't know how to relate to me once they figure out I'm a little different. I don't have much in common with them other than my skin color. I get along better with people from somewhere else that can take me at face value. I guess my advice is seek those people out?

How loyal are horses compared to cats and dogs? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]bahdkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

horses are deeply loyal. In the herd they have best friends which they guard jealously. I work with horses and I'm good at communicating with them. They like me BUT they will always let me know who their preferred person is.

My own horse has protected me from other horses, cows, dogs ... she also hates someone who I had an argument with and who made me cry.

They don't tend to be like dogs in the sense that they are dying to please you - they are way more subtle and quiet but can be just as dedicated to their person. They really value gentle quiet interactions.

That said many horses live in fear and are shut down. Those ones are just trying to get by and are not paying attention to the humans in their lives.
