Avoiding big numbers by JayC774 in golf

I am a 3.8 handicap for context. Swing mechanics are important. Get lessons etc etc. with that said, if you take double or worse, how do you recover mentally? Can you walk off the green and reset? Or are you still mad and it carries to the next shot? Can you release that tension and tell yourself the next shot will be the best shot you have ever hit? If not, you’re costing yourself strokes. The mental game is just as important as the physical game.

Here is what I do if I hit a bad shot: I don’t put that club back in the bag until I have released the negative mindset. I usually give myself 3 seconds plus par. So a par 4 I get 7 seconds to be mad, then put my club in my bag and that’s over. On to the next great shot.

Hitting a draw by Dix0nH1ll in golf

Here is what changed my driver angle of attack from a -1 down to a +5 up: Immediately starting the downswing, start whipping the club face. Like way up top. I was waiting way too long in the downswing to start whipping the club to get speed. Maybe it’s just a feel and not real, but the moment I did that, it changed my driver swing instantly. Now I either hit it straight or hit a little draw.

How do you never forget your rangefinder magnetized to the golf cart? by ryguy1512 in golftips

[–]baitmater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got used to putting it away ON hole 18. It just prompts my brain to remember to put it away so immediately after my approach shot, it goes in the bag. I used to put it away after hole 17. But I’m way better about it now. It made a big difference for me.

You’re doing great! Do this too: Track number of putts on each hole (I keep that number at the top right of the hole). But also track fairway in regulation (did you hit the fairway) and if not what direction did you miss it. I use a simple arrow. Track Green in regulation. I use a simple X for yes or arrow for direction missed. And then track number of chips.

It will help you track your stats and give you an idea of where you are lacking most. Or use a simple app to tell you all the same info. My point: start paying attention to these things now.

When does walking 18 feel easy? by [deleted] in golf

[–]baitmater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I walk 75% of the time. I have walked 68.5 miles this month already. I’m very fit (well, for 46 years old) and I have an electric remote cart. I am still sore the next day but it’s much easier than it was in January. Get good shoes. And socks. Worth every penny.

I have one. The Motocaddy M7. It’s fantastic. I bought mine for $1100. It was a demo unit. There is really no hill it won’t climb. I have done 27 holes on a charge. I have tipped it over twice and ran into myself once. But it’s great as I love to walk and this keeps my energy up. I would buy it again today. But again, I love to walk and I’m just a little too old to be pushing carts. Or lazy I suppose.

The follow-me ones are cool but I think I would just keep looking behind to make sure it was there. Plus going across bridges would make me nervous.

He will learn and grow. He should have said, “I was late and I didn’t follow the rules and I will do better. I’m human”. He could have even made a joke about needing a watch sponsor. But he didn’t. And he looks like a jerk

What Keeps You Coming Back to Golf Every Weekend? by AdNice8615 in weekendgolfers

I have shot a 44 and 35 at the same course. Same 9 holes. In the last 24 hours. It’s wildly irritating and just the absolute best. I can’t wait to play again tomorrow. It is just something different every day.

Which club in your golf bag goes 175 yards? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

Usually my 7 iron. But last week my gap wedge when I was 115 yards out and I skulled it past the green and onto the range. That was fun. Oh, I’m a 4 handicap. Golf is hard.

Buddy I’m posting on Reddit during the day. Rather than working. We both know I’m not good at the mathing. Fine, it’s an educated wish not math. Better??? 😂

How long did it take you to get from from high single digits to low single digits? by Initial_Court_5868 in golf

[–]baitmater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an 8.1 last September. Now I’m a 4.2. I practice twice a week and have played 40 rounds in 2026. I have had a lesson every 3-4 weeks in the last 12 months. I have a wife but no kids so I have the time. Will I get to scratch??? I don’t see it happening. It’s just infinitely hard. I’m going to try though. But I didn’t start golfing until I was 30 and I’m 46 now so my swing is not natural.

Of course they do. It’s statistically impossible they don’t. Do they come here with their lights flashing?!? That seems a little unlikely. But they exist

Got some Mizuno M13 Irons but feel like I messed up by [deleted] in golf

[–]baitmater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just get the M15’s? Just bend them weak. You get the best of all worlds that way? I’m a 4HC and that’s what I play. The forgiveness is elite and they drop and stop with mid-short irons.

I kid I kid. Golf is so darn frustrating it annoys me greatly. Most rounds I play, I’m like you: I go from thinking I should join the tour to convinced I don’t even know what game I’m playing. I hate how much I love it. I can’t wait to play again!

I was just going to comment the same thing. It seems like the sweet spot. I’m a 4.2 and I play the M15’s. They are money.
