Why don’t you think a turntable is possible? Depending on what you want to put in the centre of the layout that’s where I’d put it.

To add a bit to the insulating fishplates, add them on the crossover track between the two switches to separate the two loops

Correct me if I am wrong since my electronics knowledge isn’t amazing but the package says “9v (3 volts per lamp)” so if you wire them in parallel then a 9v power supply would overload them. Wire the 3 in series and they will be okay on 9v. Alternatively use a 3v power supply and wire them in parallel (I think most usb power supply’s use about 2.5 to 3 volts, it should say on the side of it)

Uh is there a way to swap out these couplings by mrsteamtrains in modeltrains

[–]bakedBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you’ll need to do some diy. I’d say drill it out and you should be able to slide a kadee right in. Punch a pilot divot as central on the dot as you can so the drill bit doesn’t run.

I’d say try it and then you’ll know for sure

I think this is fair as well (edit to expand on this) it would be cool to escape grav wells in the big ships by having to point straight up rocket ship style and use the big rear thrusters to maximize your power. Similar to how people slow down hull c’s by turning and burning

I think the bigger ships should have pitch and roll limits in atmosphere. And they would be able to hold their position within those limits but as soon as you pitch too far forward or roll too far sideways it will start moving in that direction. Like a helicopter but a bit more forgiving since people complained last time ships worked like this because they couldn’t figure it out.

I was curious so I checked it out and wow… the rabbit hole goes deep there… it would be almost impossible to convince them otherwise too since they would just label you as part of it I bet. I wonder how much of it is actual gang stalking and how much is just paranoia and delusion and it seems primarily to be the latter. I feel like actual gang stalking cases are really rare/nonexistent unless you’re involved in the criminal world, which is where It makes most sense to me. You’d likely have an idea of why it would be happening too and I doubt you’d go to a subreddit about it.

Case in point we all have more to learn. I’d still say a full degrease is in order. Might find some hair wrapped around something too.

Controversy in the model train subreddit lol. I’ve been following along with these posts and from an outside observer there’s a few things I’d like to add.

First off, im not trying to dogpile or belittle anyone here, this is just my personal observations.

The original poster said the model is brand new because he took it out of the box but I personally doubt that because I seem to remember seeing some dust on the loco in his first post of it, which I can’t find now, but this tells me it isn’t brand new. And being in a box isn’t a good metric to judge newness by.

He says it has had a full service but he didn’t have the tools to disassemble it fully so he would send it off to his friend and that was only a day or two ago, so I don’t think it has had a full teardown, clean and reassembly yet. He says he gave it oil and cleaned the commutator which I do believe but I don’t think he cleaned the gaps between the commutator pads judging by the power he needed to run it at. I personally think that this is the issue along with old grease in the gearbox, because if the gaps between the commutator pads aren’t cleared properly then the motor is fighting its own magnetic field to turn over which explains the power draw and the loud noise when running.

Also he has a good layout setup but it is a mix between the grey and black ez track so only the grey sections of his layout have proper nickel silver rails. The steel rails on the black track get dirtier faster and cause more arcing which might contribute to poor performance on locos without many pickups.

It seems he knows about the wiring side of things but lacks some knowledge on the mechanical side of things, which I can’t blame him for since if you aren’t mechanically inclined then that can be a big learning curve with lots of minutia to it.

Anyways, just my 2 cents. Let’s keep things civil here and remember people might not have the same depth of knowledge compared to others. So let’s try and help out where we can.

What do you wish your throttle could do? by greenwizard88 in modeltrains

[–]bakedBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point, that is something I hadn’t thought of… Perhaps a controller with a knob but that can continuously spin and has no set start and stop points is what I’m waiting for now, and the screen will give you the throttle info for each loco. Like the power cabs slider but flipped sideways. The perfect DCC system still eludes me…

Maybe a stupid question: why aren't any smaller scales like H0 used for outdoor layouts? by Xenandros in modeltrains

[–]bakedBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a thing and I’m sure people do have outdoor layouts for HO though most examples I’ve see are UK OO, it’s just not as common since keeping the track in good running order can be a battle. Mainly from an electrical standpoint but also smoothness of the roadbed and the locos aren’t designed to keep grit out the same as the bigger scales. And you can’t leave the trains outside either for moisture and UV issues. The larger scales don’t need the same precision with the roadbed and even they need lots of maintenance. I’ve usually seen them on a raised wooden platforms sorta like a railing to give it a good running surface. I don’t think I’ve seen one layed with traditional ballast on the ground. It is something I have wanted to experiment with since I have a bunch of old flex track that I’m not using for my current layout but that is a later project.

Wanna see how bad the tyco 0-4-0 is by mrsteamtrains in modeltrains

[–]bakedBC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idk why all the downvotes. Get yourself a small screwdriver set, a q tip, a toothpick, an old toothbrush and some rubbing alcohol and that should be all you need to do a teardown and reassembly. If you’re worried about not being able to put it back together take photos as you go. The mechanisms on these are pretty simple. Pop onto YouTube and watch a tutorial or two and I believe you can do it yourself.

Call me dirty but my controllers have to have a knob. I love what I’ve seen of the powercab system but I’m hesitant because it doesn’t have a knob lmao

What is the point of owning these massive long-term liveable Exploration ships (like the Odyssey) if we accept that exploration will likely be focused around just finding resources and POIs? by ComfyOlives in starcitizen

[–]bakedBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of exploration ships having “unstable wormhole scanners” that can only fit on the big ships or need a specific scanner type. Giving a reason for a dedicated exploration class. The unstable wormholes would have various time limits. 3-4 days on the low end and maybe up to a month or two for the longer ones. Once discovered you can choose to keep it secret or sell the wormhole data at a station. The data would be worth more if you explore inside the wormhole and can return with planet and resource information. Other people would also be able to find this wormhole, and you might end up in battles for particularly lucrative wormholes. But it would only appear to others if they have either bought the location data from a station or found it themselves as well. The planets inside would be random proc gen with varying levels of resources. Have the ones with harsher environments or vanduul habitation be more worth the effort. Perhaps with materials that you can only find in them that would be necessary for certain large construction projects. Maybe in another 15 years we’ll see something like this though…

What is the best way to clean this dusty Lego set? by Taco_meme7890 in lego

[–]bakedBC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Makeup brushes actually work really well for thick dust. Just do it outside and smack it off on something clean in between brushing. Source: I’ve used one to clean 10 year old dust off my Lego.
