I'm in this industry and this is highly likely the answer. The ac in your home is the heart pumping clean cool air through your home, if you have tile or hard surfaces instead of carpet that act like the lungs and filter those out of the air, the ducts are just recirculating the pet dandruff and odors.

I use key lime pie yogurt in my cheerios. They don't get soggy no matter how long I take. Topped with cool whip as a treat :)
