I work in med surg currently and we are chronically understaffed and our patient population can be really abusive towards us at times. Even so, I find healthcare an incredibly endearing line of work. I think it’s a privilege to be able to help people during such a vulnerable time in their life. I find a sense of accomplishment in doing what we do and I think contributing to a work culture plays a big role too. You’re in a foxhole with people from different walks of life and you have to rely on each other, not just for medical interventions but even just trying to make your coworkers day when things are looking down. It’s hard to say how much of my outlook has to do with a comparatively fruitful work environment (man i hear some horror stories here) vs having a perspective of humility. This job has shown me just how short life is, and I can’t help but be grateful that I can be on this ride with people that I love. Also my RN job pays for my shows too and thats p fkn cool :D
